  • Patent number: 5591093
Abstract: A lightweight damper pulley is provided which can be produced in a simple manner. The damper pulley includes a central portion, including a cylindrical boss portion to be fixed onto a rotary shaft, a main portion extending radially outwardly from the larger diameter part of the cylindrical boss portion and a central flange bent to extend horizontally from an outer periphery of the main portion. This forms a substantially U-shaped cross-sectional profile. The pulley also includes a belt retaining portion made of metal plate that also has a substantially U-shaped cross section profile. This space is determined between an outer belt supporting wall, an inner belt portion flange and a radially extending connecting wall. The pulley is constructed by reversing the two U-shaped profiles or dissecting the belt retaining flange to the interior of the central flange, with an elastic, damping ring forcefit therebetween. The belt retaining flange can also be moved radially outwardly to compress the elastic.

  • Patent number: 5575728
Abstract: A drive assembly for rotating a shaft of a pulley driven device. The drive assembly includes a hub in the form of an annular body of ferrous metal having a groove in an external periphery thereof. A belt driven pulley is provided in the form of ferrous sheet metal and has a web portion. A structural connection is defined between the hub and the pulley web portion such that the hub is in fixed, abutted relation with the pulley web portion. The hub and the pulley web portion have a bore therethrough defining a single, machined annular surface. The annular surface is constructed and arranged to engage a periphery of the shaft in an interference-fitted manner so as to maintain torque transfer to the shaft in the event of failure of the structural connection. The groove is constructed and arranged to be operatively engaged by a pulling tool for removing the annular surface from engagement with the shaft.

  • Patent number: 5421788
Abstract: An idler pulley and bearing assembly for handling the drive belt of a front end accessory drive system of an internal combustion engine includes a bearing having an outer race and an inner race with an aperture for extending therethrough, and a mounting structure for securing the outer race of the bearing such that the outer race will not rotate. A pulley mounted upon a shaft extending through the aperture in the inner bearing is attached to the inner race such that the shaft pulley and inner race rotate at the same speed. This construction greatly reduces the rotational speed of the anti-friction elements within the bearing and preserves the bearing's lubrication, so as to prolong the life of the bearing, while reducing noise generated by the bearing.

  • Patent number: 4287976
Abstract: An electromagnetic clutch including a pulley which is rotated by an external power source through a belt or belts for selectively transmitting the rotation of the pulley to a drive shaft by electromagnetically attracting a magnetic armature supported on the drive shaft. The pulley has a magnetic annular body rotatably supported and a belt-receiving groove member of aluminum alloy formed onto the outer surface of the magnetic annular body by die casting and integrated with the magnetic annular body. The construction improves the weight, cost and simplifies the method of production of the pulley without degrading the performance and balance of the pulley.

  • Patent number: 4278303
Abstract: A wheel (16) in a continuous track assembly (12) has a hub (18) and a rim (20) connected to the hub (18). First apparatus (29) engages a track (14) of the assembly (12) to drive an associated work vehicle (10). Second apparatus (42) mounts the rim (20) in a movable relationship to the hub (18). The first apparatus (29) in movable relationship to the rim (20) to substantially absorb and isolate noise created by engagement of the wheel (16) and track (14) to drive the vehicle (10). The rim (20) is movable relative to the hub (18) to substantially isolate impact forces exerted on the wheel (16) resulting from operation of the vehicle (10).

  • Patent number: 4231670
Abstract: A wheel assembly adaptable for use with a motor vehicle, a light aircraft, and the like, or in a pulley system or gear train. The wheel assembly comprises an axle or spindle-retained hub member, and a removable wheel member that is releasably connected by unique snap/lock pins. The hub member is made of a more dense material than the material of which the wheel member is made. In the adaption for use with a motor vehicle, light aircraft, and the like, the wheel member (with a tire mounted on it) is significantly lighter than the conventional rim-mounted tire, because of the absence of the hub portion; and, therefore, the wheel member can be easily changed or removed by even the weak, the aged, and the handicapped. Additionally, because the customary bolt/nut or lug/lug nut fastening combinations are not used, the wheel member is easy to change or remove, and, as importantly, the need for a "lug wrench" is eliminated.

  • Patent number: 4229117
Abstract: Apparatus for securing a metal hoop onto a metal rim is disclosed which apparatus includes two tightening collars integral with the rim, the collars and the metal hoop having conical shoulders and conical bores, each with the same angle of inclination, the conical shoulders being deformable by the action of the conical bores upon tightening the collars against the hoop so that no play remains between the hoop and the rim.
