Abstract: A controllable, multi-mode, bi-directional overrunning clutch assembly and a shift system adapted for use in a transfer case for transferring drive torque from a primary output shaft to a secondary output shaft so as to establish a four-wheel drive mode. The clutch assembly includes a first ring journalled on a first rotary member, a second ring fixed to a second rotary member, and a plurality of rollers disposed in opposed cam tracks formed between the first and second rings. The first ring is split to define an actuation channel between its end segments. A cam rod is moveable between positions engaged with and released from one or both end segments of the split first ring. The shift system includes a mode fork which controls movement of the cam rod for establishing four distinct operational modes.

Abstract: When an SLT pressure of a linear solenoid valve is input into a control oil chamber of a garage shift control valve, and a direct control pressure from the garage shift control valve is output to a clutch or a brake, a hydraulic controller inputs the direct control pressure into a control oil chamber and executes feedback-control. Also, when a range pressure of a clutch modulator valve is output to the clutch or the brake by switching the garage shift valve, the hydraulic controller inputs the range pressure, which is higher than the SLT pressure, into the control oil chamber and fixes the garage shift control valve.

Abstract: The invention relates to an arrangement for a belt drive device, which comprises two continuous drive belts, which arc arranged to be operated by means of drive rollers (2), and which are arranged to travel around stretching rollers as continuous loops spaced apart, and which are arranged to be pressed by means of press rolls against the opposite surfaces of a cable or the like (3) to be drawn. In order to provide a simple structure, the drive rollers (2) are arranged to be rotated by a single power source by driving two planetary gears (8) connected in parallel and provided with angular front transmission. The rotary motion generated by the power source is arranged to be transmitted in the same direction to primary axles (9) of both planetary gears (8) provided with angular front transmission in order to rotate secondary axles (10) and the drive rollers (2) connected thereto in opposite directions.

Abstract: A torque transfer system is disclosed which is particularly well-suited for use in four-wheel drive transfer cases to establish distinct two-wheel and four-wheel drive modes as well as providing an automatic (“on-demand”) four-wheel drive mode. The torque through system includes a planetary gearset having a first component driven by an input member, a second component driving an output member, and a third component driven by a worm gearset. The worm gearset includes a worm gear fixed for rotation with the third component and a worm meshed with the worm gear. A variable speed motor drives the worm for varying the speed ratio between the first and third components of the planetary gearset, thereby causing a corresponding variation in the drive torque transferred from the input member to the output member.

Abstract: A vehicle transmission, for example a CVT transmission, is provided with a decoupling device between an engine output shaft and a vehicle driveline. The decoupling device in one embodiment includes a clutch assembly which is fixed to a shaft coupled to the transmission output and engageable with a driveline through a piston arrangement. The piston can be urged against the force of a spring by fluid pressure to cause engagement of the clutches of the clutch assembly and thereby to couple engine torque to the vehicle driveline. When fluid pressure is released, the spring urges the piston to a position in which the clutches of the clutch assembly are disengaged, so as to disengage the engine output from the vehicle driveline. In the disengaged state, the vehicle can be towed.

Abstract: A planetary gear set is drivingly connected to the input and output of a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Of the three concentric rotatable members of the planetary gear set (sun gear, planet carrier, and ring gear) one is drivingly connected to the input of the CVT, one is drivingly connected to the output of the CVT, and the third is the output of the combined unit. Teeth ratios of the gears in the planetary set cause the range of input-to-output speed ratios of the combined unit to exceed that of the CVT alone. The expanded range of continuously variable speed ratios enables control strategy to achieve vehicle performance with a smaller engine, and improve fuel economy and emissions. The gear set also improves packaging and increases torque capacity of the CVT.

  • Patent number: 6612958
Abstract: At the time of starting a vehicle, the torque capacity of a friction engagement element is made less than the torque capacity of a continuously variable transmission by setting a ratio between the pressure-receiving area of a control oil chamber (77a) of a garage shift control valve (77) and the pressure-receiving area of a feedback chamber (77d) of the valve, and a ratio between the pressure-receiving area of a control oil chamber (73a) of a secondary sheave control valve 73 and the pressure-receiving area of a feedback chamber 73d of the valve. This allows a control based on a single linear solenoid valve SLT although the control is for eliminating slip of a belt of the continuously variable transmission. Therefore, the construction of the oil pressure control apparatus is simplified so that the size and cost thereof can be reduced.
