Downshift Responsive To High Speed Limit Patents (Class 475/256)
  • Patent number: 10830126
Abstract: A two-speed pulley assembly for an engine accessory drive includes a planetary gear, a pulley, a friction clutch, a one-way clutch, and a torsional isolator. The planetary gear has a ring gear, a sun gear, a planet carrier and at least one planet gear. The planet carrier is arranged for driving engagement with an engine crankshaft. The pulley circumscribes the ring gear and is in driving engagement with the ring gear. The friction clutch is arranged to selectively prevent rotation of the sun gear. The one-way clutch permits rotation of the sun gear relative to the ring gear in a first rotational direction, and prevents rotation of the sun gear relative to the ring gear in a second rotational direction, opposite the first rotational direction. The torsional isolator is drivingly connected to the planet carrier and arranged to rotate at a same speed as the planet carrier.

  • Patent number: 8311712
Abstract: A method of operating of a drivetrain, having at least a drive motor and an automatic transmission with at least five shift elements, to improve a shift speed such that during a first upshift or a first downshift, at least one required shift element is prepared such that, when a synchronization point is reached, the successive upshift or the successive downshift can be immediately carried out. The method comprises the steps of requiring, at most, two of the at least five shift elements be disengaged and a remainder of the shift elements be disengaged for each gear for transferring one of torque and force; and one of increasing and decreasing a torque of the drive motor, relative to a torque of the drive motor derived from a driver's wish, during one of the first upshift or downshift and the successive upshift or downshift to assist with an overlapped implementation of the successive upshifts or the successive downshifts.

  • Patent number: 7983824
Abstract: A method for operation of a drivetrain including a drive motor and an automatic transmission having at least five shift elements, of which, at least two elements are disengaged in each forward and reverse gear and the other shift elements are engaged. Two successive shifts are accomplished by two overlapped single gear shifts such that: a) during the first shift, a first shift element is engaged or disengaged while a second shift element is disengaged or engaged; b) during the first shift, second and third shift elements are prepared for either engagement or disengagement; and c) during the first and the second shifts at least one fourth shift element is kept engaged or nearly engaged.

  • Patent number: 6597978
Abstract: A method is proposed for controlling an automatic transmission driven by a prime mover in which a shift from a first transmission ratio to a second transmission ratio occurs in the form of a pull upshift or push downshift or a pull downshift or push upshift by a first clutch opening and a second clutch closing and an electronic transmission control device controls, via electromagnetic valves, the pressure curve of the first and of the second clutch during the shifting operation. The shifting operation is divided into various shifting phases, an engine intervention taking place in the load-transfer (LÜ) of the gradient-setting phase (GE), the sliding phase (GL), the gradient-reduction phase (GA) and the closing phase (S), an engine torque and/or a characteristic value that determines the engine torque being transferred from the transmission control device to an engine control device of the prime mover.

  • Patent number: 6093128
Abstract: A ratchet wrench having a self-shifting transmission apparatus having a rotational drive and a rotational output spindle with a ratchet driven by the output spindle. A first transmission gear and an overrunning clutch are rotatably connected in series between the rotational drive and the rotational output spindle. A centrifugal clutch is rotatably connected in series between the rotational drive and the rotational output spindle. The centrifugal clutch is rotatably connected to a shaft which rotates in the overrunning clutch such that upon the drive rotating at and above a predetermined rotational speed, the centrifugal clutch engages to rotate the output spindle while rotating the shaft to overrun within the overrunning clutch. Upon the drive rotating below the predetermined rotational speed, the centrifugal clutch disengages thereby permitting the overrunning clutch to engage the shaft and rotate the output spindle through the first transmission gear.

  • Patent number: 5109730
Abstract: A power shift stage in the driveline of an internal combustion engine, is shifted depending on the load on the engine between at least two rotational speed ratios. A control system automatically controls shifting to improve driving comfort and increase productivity. The control system includes a switch connected to a fuel adjusting element or throttle, an engine rotational speed sensor and a control unit. The control unit automatically shifts the power shift stage in dependence upon the status of the switch and upon the sensed engine speed.
