With Planetary Reaction Brake Steering Patents (Class 475/29)
  • Patent number: 7806220
Abstract: A drive axle assembly includes first and second axleshafts and a drive mechanism coupling a driven input shaft to the axleshafts. The drive mechanism includes a differential assembly, a planetary gear assembly operably disposed between the differential assembly and the first axleshaft, a brake and first and second mode clutches. The first clutch is operable with the brake and the planetary gear assembly to increase the rotary speed of the first axleshaft which, in turn, causes a corresponding decrease in the rotary speed of the second axleshaft. The second clutch is operable with the brakes and the planetary gear assembly to decrease the rotary speed of the first axleshaft so as to cause an increase in the rotary speed of the second axleshaft. A control system controls actuation of both mode clutches.

  • Patent number: 7731614
Abstract: A differential assembly includes an electrically operated input device and a first planetary assembly in driving engagement with the input device. The first planetary assembly is drivingly connected to a first output assembly. A second planetary assembly is in driving engagement with the first planetary assembly and the second planetary assembly is drivingly connected to a second output assembly. The first planetary assembly co-acts with the second planetary assembly to provide substantially the same torque to the first and second output assemblies and the first and second planetary assemblies include axes of rotation substantially aligned with an axis of rotation of the input device.

  • Patent number: 7306535
Abstract: A vehicle steering device may include a rotatable input shaft, a motor in communication with an input augmentation shaft, the input augmentation shaft and the input shaft sharing a longitudinal axis, and the motor further having a stator stationary with respect to rotation of the input shaft. The vehicle steering device may further include a differential mechanism for providing variable ratio steering to the steering device. The differential mechanism may be a harmonic drive differential or a planetary gearing system. In one embodiment, an external wave generator may be used within the harmonic drive differential gearing mechanism. The vehicle steering device may include a sensorless synchronous machine.

  • Patent number: 5871413
Abstract: A driven axle assembly for vehicles has an axle housing with a main drive, wheel hub units fixed to both sides of the axle housing and being driven by a drive shaft with different rotational movements on both sides of the main drive, within each wheel hub unit, a planetary gearing and a multi-plate friction type wet brake both being coupled to the drive shaft as well as to a drive unit of the vehicle, wherein the multi-plate friction type wet brake is arranged within a ring gear support member, and around planetary gears of the planetary gearing a ring gear is connected to them. The improvement achieved by this invention is that a driving assembly is coupled to the ring gear of the planetary gearing of each and every wheel hub unit arranged on the driven axle whereas a difference between the rotational speeds of the ring gear within the wheel hub units, respectively, are proportional to a difference between the rotational speeds of the wheel hub units arranged on the driven axle of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5704608
Abstract: An epicyclic drive train arrangement having a plurality of output drive members which may be selectively driven from a single input drive member. A frame equipped with two pawls is operated by a single solenoid and spring combination. During successive cycles of solenoid operation, a selected pawl engages its mating gear by action of a solenoid plunger rod. The action prevents rotation of the selected gear while the pawl is engaged. The unselected pawl disengages its mating gear thereby allowing it to freely rotate. Multiple epicyclic drive train arrangements may be configured so as to drive a plurality of sheet feeding apparatuses in an electrophotographic printing machine.
