  • Publication number: 20010008860
Abstract: A planetary gear speed reduction mechanism has a sun gear, an internal gear and a plurality of planetary gears disposed between both gears. Each tooth of the sun gear has a tapered portion formed at a front end thereof such that the tapered portion tapers off in the axial direction. The tapered portion has a pair of symmetrical inclined surfaces whose width is tapered off in the circumferential direction from a tooth surface of each tooth and a tapered surface whose peripheral surface is tapered off in the radial direction from an end of a tooth crest surface. In the process of inserting the sun gear into a space among the planetary gears, the sun gear is inserted thereinto under the guide of the inclined surface by slightly rotating the sun gear.

  • Patent number: 6077184
Abstract: A shaft assembly used in a washing machine, which can prevent noise generated from a gear assembly therein. The shaft assembly has a speed reduction gear assembly including an internal gear, a sun gear, and planet gears. The sun gear is a helical gear made of plastic. An input shaft of the shaft assembly is inserted into the sun gear. Relative movement between the sun gear and the planet gears is prevented by a cover member. Since the sun gear is a helical gear made of plastic, noise is reduced. Furthermore, the movement of the gears caused by the thrust of the helical gear is prevented by the cover member, and therefore the noise is still more reduced.

  • Patent number: 5345793
Abstract: In an automatic washer drive system, a planetary gear arrangement is provided including an input drive shaft being drivingly connected to a motor at one end and having a sun gear interconnected with a second end. A plurality of cylindrical plastic planet gears are disposed around and engage the sun gear. A plastic unitary carrier member rotatably supports the planet gears and further interconnects with an output drive shaft for causing rotation of an agitator. A gear housing surrounds the cylindrical planetary gears which engage an internal ring gear disposed on an inner peripheral surface of the gear housing. The plastic unitary carrier member is configured to include a plate portion which extends outwardly in the radial direction with respect to the output drive shaft. A plurality of the cylindrical pin portions extend from the plate portion in the longitudinal direction with respect to the output drive shaft. These cylindrical pin portions provide the rotatable support of the cylindrical planet gears.
