  • Patent number: 10995804
Abstract: An example electromagnetic actuator includes a drive shaft, a motor operable to rotate the drive shaft, and a load shaft coupled to an armature body. A clutch is operable to control whether the drive shaft engages the load shaft. A rotatable portion of the clutch corotates with the drive shaft and includes a field winding and a clutch body. A stationary portion of the clutch includes an exciter winding that is inductively coupled to the rotatable portion and is operable to energize the field winding. The field winding is operable, when energized, to provide a magnetic field that causes engagement or disengagement between the clutch body and an armature body. A method of operating an electromagnetic actuator is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8219291
Abstract: A method of controlling a vehicle includes signaling a transmission to shift into a first gear ratio and sensing a current gear ratio of the transmission after signaling the transmission to shift into the first gear ratio. The method further includes implementing a diagnostic transmission shift control strategy to override a normal transmission shift control strategy when the current sensed gear ratio is not equal to the requested first gear ratio to verify proper functionality of a mode control valve that is responsible for shifting the transmission into the first gear ratio.

  • Patent number: 7698053
Abstract: An economy running system having: a function of stopping an internal combustion engine of a vehicle when the vehicle stops and all of stop conditions are satisfied; and a function of restarting the internal combustion engine of the vehicle. The economy running system includes: a control unit that judges whether the vehicle stops or not, and judges whether each of the stop conditions is satisfied or not; and a notification unit. When the control unit judges that the vehicle stops and that at least one of the stop conditions is not satisfied, the control unit causes the notification unit to notify to a user first notification information concerned with the at least one of the stop conditions.

  • Patent number: 6076031
Abstract: A speed ratio of a toroidal continuously variable transmission is varied by a step motor (4). The step motor (4) is responsive to a command signal Astep which a controller (61) outputs corresponding to a target speed ratio. The controller (61) is programmed to initialize the command signal Astep when it is activated while the vehicle is running (S152) such that the command signal coincides with an actual operation position of the step motor (4). The controller (61) is further programmed to limit the command signal, after performing this initialization, within a first limiting range which is narrower than a second limiting range corresponding to a physical operation limit of the step motor (4) (S168, S170). By applying such a limitation to the command signal, the command signal is prevented from exceeding the operation limit of the step motor (4) even when a torque shift error is introduced into the command signal by the initialization while the vehicle is running.

  • Patent number: 5907139
Abstract: A device for detecting a position of a moving body is provided in which a position of a moving body such as a window glass can be detected with high accuracy, initial positions can be set without complicated adjustment, such can be realized with a simple structure and at a low cost, and assemblability can be greatly improved. In the device for detecting a position of a moving body, spring claws, which form a clutch mechanism and press a carrier, are formed integrally with a protective plate. A switch portion including a moving contact is provided integrally with a ring gear of the planetary gear group and rotates therewith. The switch portion detects the position of the moving body by on-and-off operation thereof. The spring claws are provided at a side of a planetary gear group (a planetary gear and the carrier) opposite a side at which a cover plate is provided. Accordingly, the protective plate can be installed after the planetary gear group.

  • Patent number: 5762579
Abstract: In a position detector, a spring washer is beforehand attached integrally onto a carrier. Thus, when a planetary gear train unit composed of a sun gear, a ring gear and planetary gears is temporarily assembled, the center portions of the spring washer and a carrier are aligned each other accurately. Therefore, the axis of the spring washer cannot be misaligned from that of the carrier, the assembling performance is largely improved, and an accurate clutch holding force can be obtained. Alternatively, the spring washer may be attached integrally onto a cover plate.
