Patent number: 11755054Abstract: A driver assistance system enables brake and accelerator operation by an operation bar in a manner close to a sense of a driver of a vehicle, regardless of the degree of operation of the operation bar. Embodiments include an operation bar extending downward toward a vehicle floor panel from a manual operation area where a seated driver manually operates the operation bar, and whose lower portion is supported in a slidingly displaceable manner along an axial direction in a front-down, rear-up tilted state. The operation bar includes a brake actuation section, below the manual operation area, that actuates a brake mechanism by sliding displacement of the operation bar in a front-down direction; and an accelerator actuation section that actuates an acceleration mechanism by sliding displacement of the operation bar in a rear-up direction that is a reverse direction on the same axis from the sliding displacement in the front-down direction.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 2020Date of Patent: September 12, 2023Assignee: MAZDA MOTOR CORPORATIONInventors: Yoshihiro Yamamoto, Yasuyuki Tonohara, Keiichi Yamasaki, Katsuhisa Maedo, Kazutaka Aihara

Patent number: 9334952Abstract: There are provided an operational member and a body portion supporting the operational member rotatably from a home position and movably in a vehicle longitudinal direction from its rotated position. A shift range is changed to a drive range or a reverse range when the operational member is moved in the vehicle longitudinal direction from the rotated position after the operational member is rotated in a specified direction from the home position. A shift mode is changed to a first mode or a second mode, which have different gear ratios from each other, when the operational member is moved in the vehicle longitudinal direction from the rotated position after the operational member is rotated in an opposite direction to the specified direction from the home position.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 2015Date of Patent: May 10, 2016Assignee: MAZDA MOTOR CORPORATIONInventors: Masayuki Tokumo, Yoh Yamazaki

Method for adjustment of an automatically selected gear shifting rotational speed limit in a vehicle
Patent number: 8392078Abstract: A method is provided for adjustment of an automatically selected gear shifting rotational speed limit when an automatic step geared vehicle transmission is in an automatic gear shifting drive mode, and where the transmission includes a drive mode selector for selection of at least the automatic gear shifting drive mode and a neutral mode. The adjustment of the automatically selected gear shifting rotational speed limit is performed temporarily by a driver of the vehicle when the automatic gear shifting drive mode is selected. Driving flexibility in automatic drive mode increases.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2007Date of Patent: March 5, 2013Assignee: Volvo Lastvagnar ABInventors: Anders Eriksson, Johan Bjernetun -
Patent number: 7578768Abstract: A vehicle shifter assembly is disclosed which is mounted in an interior of a vehicle in operable connection with a vehicle transmission for selecting a mode of the transmission. The shifter has a base member, an ignition button, and a cover. The base member is mounted to the vehicle interior and translatable relative to the vehicle interior. The ignition button is provided on a top surface of the base member and operably connected to an engine of the vehicle such that actuation of the ignition button starts the engine of the vehicle. The cover is pivotably connected to the top surface of the base member to generally cover the ignition button. The cover has a closed position and an opened position.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 2007Date of Patent: August 25, 2009Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Kris Tomasson, Brian White

Patent number: 5865154Abstract: The invention is a device consisting of a control module that allows a driver to electronically activate a truck's engine brakes. The brakes are activated by use of a push-button switch installed on the truck's gearshift lever. In the first embodiment of the invention, when the button is pressed and released, the control module's electronic circuitry keeps the engine brakes engaged until the clutch or throttle is used. In the second embodiment of the invention, the brakes also can be turned off by pressing the button again. The invention eliminates the need to use a truck's standard, dashboard-mounted manual switch to activate the engine brake and allows the driver to intermittently turn the engine brakes on or off.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 1997Date of Patent: February 2, 1999Inventors: Frank Williams, Crystal Williams

Patent number: 5833578Abstract: An auxiliary throttle control arrangement is partially housed in and forms an integral part of a handle assembly for a gear shift lever. The actuator component of the control arrangement is in the shape and general configuration of a trigger. Together, the trigger and handle assembly are ergonomically styled to form fit the hand. The trigger is spring loaded to provide initial resistance to movement and to return the trigger to its original position as applied pressure is released. The trigger is mechanically coupled to a potentiometer device housed in the handle assembly. As the trigger position is changed by the vehicle operator, the resulting movement of the potentiometer produces a control signal having a variable output voltage that is used by a control mechanism to change the engine throttle position. Thus, the subject invention provides a secondary method of accelerating an automotive vehicle from a stopped position.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1997Date of Patent: November 10, 1998Inventor: Michael R. Patent number: 5679093Abstract: An engine control provides rapid decrease in the output speed of the engine when an upshift of the transmission is being actuated. The system selectively actuates a speed retardation system to decrease the engine output speed to match a desired engine output speed at the next highest gear ratio. In one embodiment, an engine control actuates engine braking to achieve this rapid speed reduction. In other embodiments, an additional load may be placed on the engine, such as the actuation of a fan. An operator is preferably provided with a shift intent switch that provides an indication to the engine control that an upshift will be actuated. The engine control waits for an indication that the transmission has been moved to neutral. Once this indication is received, the speed retardation system is actuated to rapidly reduce the engine output speed toward a desired value.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 1995Date of Patent: October 21, 1997Assignees: Rockwell International Corporation, Detroit Diesel CorporationInventors: Thomas Desautels, Edward M.
