Magnetic Holding Device Patents (Class 477/191)
  • Patent number: 10112613
Abstract: A method of managing torque at a vehicle standstill includes outputting torque from a powertrain to satisfy a driver torque demand. The method also includes, in response to a nonzero torque demand resulting in vehicle standstill, applying a friction brake to maintain the vehicle standstill and substantially reducing output torque of the powertrain during friction brake application. The method further includes satisfying driver torque demand using the powertrain and releasing the friction brake in response to the driver torque demand deviating from the nonzero torque demand by more than a predetermined amount.

  • Patent number: 9821775
Abstract: In response to driver selection of PARK, a vehicle transmission is commanded to momentarily select and hold NEUTRAL before PARK, while a vehicle wheel brake is applied. Such an arrangement avoids trapping torque in the driveline, and thus can obviate pawl ‘thump’ when PARK is next disengaged.

  • Patent number: 9499144
Abstract: A vehicle includes a tone wheel having a plurality of encoding members spaced substantially evenly about a periphery thereof. Each tone wheel is rotates with an associated wheel. A fixed speed sensor is mounted adjacent to each tone wheel. The vehicle includes a brake system. A method determines a travel distance between adjacent encoding members. A required rolling distance of a vehicle from standstill is established. Maximum allowed interrupts per wheel is established, with an interrupt defined as each instance an encoding member passes an associated speed sensor. It is determined whether the vehicle is actually rolling from standstill. Once the vehicle is actually rolling, a number of interrupts is counted at each wheel. When the maximum allowed interrupts is counted at each wheel, the brake system is supplied with pressure increase to return the vehicle to, and hold the vehicle at, standstill prior to reaching the required rolling distance.

  • Patent number: 8926473
Abstract: The invention refers to a locking unit, in particular a transmission locking unit. It consists of a coil encircling at least partly an armature space. The coil has a wire that can be energized by electric current. An armature rod projecting out of the armature space and carrying an armature is provided, as well as an operating element locking unit interacting with the armature rod. This holds or releases, depending on the position of the armature rod, an operating element, wherein the armature rod or the armature is held in a first position by a permanent magnet, and a current flow through the wire of the coil compensates the holding force of the permanent magnet, and the armature rod gets in the second position.

  • Patent number: 5491630
Abstract: A system/method of resetting the value of a control parameter (GCW.sub.CP indicative of vehicular gross combined weight and determined as a filtered/averaged value, to a predetermined default value, or to a test value, upon sensing vehicle operating conditions (OS=Oand t>REF) deemed indicative of a change in vehicle loading is provided. A vehicle automated system, such as an automated mechanical transmission system, is controlled as a function of the value of the control parameter.
