Clutch, Engine, And Transmission Controlled Patents (Class 477/77)
  • Patent number: 6314357
Abstract: A lock-up control device is provided to control the engaging and release of a lock-up clutch, which is arranged in parallel with a torque converter to transmit driving force of an engine of a car. Herein, target driving force is calculated based on accelerator pedal opening and car velocity. A present shift position is detected using a shift map based on accelerator pedal opening, car velocity and engine speed. Target engine torque is calculated based on the target driving force and present shift position as well as a torque amplification ratio, which is detected when the torque converter is placed in a torque amplification state. A lock-up release instruction is issued under conditions that the torque converter is placed in the torque amplification state while the target engine torque is greater than a preset value, which is determined in advance based on a torque characteristic of the engine.

Abstract: The invention proceeds from a control of a transmission which is adjustable continuously with respect to its transmission ratio, for a motor vehicle. The transmission together with a drive unit is mounted in the drive train of the motor vehicle and the drive unit has an adjustable drive torque. The transmission includes a drive end as well as an output end and operative means for establishing a mechanical operative connection between the drive end and the output end. Furthermore, detection means for detecting a slip quantity is provided. The slip quantity represents the slip between the operating means and the drive end and/or output end. Pregivable measures are initiated in response to a pregiven value of the slip quantity. The essence of the invention is that measures as follows are initiated: a drive of a clutch mounted in the drive train; and/or, a change of the transmission ratio; and/or, a change of the output torque of the drive unit.

  • Patent number: 6258009
Abstract: An integrated system for automatically controlling the operation of both an automated manual transmission and a multiple speed axle assembly in a vehicle drive train assembly includes a transmission actuator for operating the transmission in any one of a plurality of transmission gear ratios. The system further includes an axle actuator for operating the axle assembly in any one of a plurality of axle gear ratios. An electronic controller is provided for operating the transmission in a desired one of the plurality of transmission gear ratios and for operating the axle assembly in a desired one of the plurality of axle gear ratios to provide a desired overall gear ratio for the vehicle. To accomplish this, the electronic controller is responsive to one or more input signals that represent operating parameters of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6162146
Abstract: In one aspect of the present invention, an electrohydraulic control device for a drive train of a machine is disclosed. A control member produces an operator control signal. An engine control module receives the operator control signal and responsively reduces the rotational speed of the engine. A transmission control module additionally receive the operator control signal and responsively controls the engagement of a predetermined transmission clutch to reduce the transmitted torque from the transmission.

  • Patent number: 6102829
Abstract: A vehicle gear change mechanism is provided to enable a gear change to be effected with a conventional gearbox without manually moving the gears. The gear changes are effected by an actuator which is hydraulically powered and is controlled by a control device including a control unit. The actuator is operated such that the force applied to effect a gear change is varied to be reducible during gear engagement. In one arrangement this is achieved by controlling the supply of hydraulic fluid through a valve and a hydraulic accumulator. There is also provided a device for controlling operation of a clutch to the gearbox whereby smooth gear changes are effected.

  • Patent number: 6033340
Abstract: A motor vehicle wherein the clutch is automatically engaged to initiate a creeping movement of the vehicle when the engine is on, the transmission is in gear, the gas pedal is not depressed and the brake or brakes is or are not applied. This entails or takes place at least substantially simultaneously with an increase of the engine torque. If the creeping movement is interrupted, e.g., as a result of the application of a brake, the clutch is disengaged and the engine torque is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5967939
Abstract: The actuating arrangement includes a torque transmitting system that includes a first device for initiating, discontinuing or regulating the transmission of torque. A transmission includes a second device for initiating a gear shifting operation within one of a plurality of gear shifting paths. The transmission further includes a third device for initiating the gear ratio selecting operation among the gear shifting paths. An electronic control unit is operatively connected to at least one actor. The at least one actor activates in a predetermined manner, one of the first device, second device and third device for the initiation of the transmission of torque, gear shifting or gear ratio selecting operation.

  • Patent number: 5749264
Abstract: An improved gear change mechanism is provided for semi-automatically selecting a change up or change down gear change. The mechanism includes a shaft (31) which is movable in its axial direction and about its axis to make one such movement or a combination of such movements according to the gear to be selected. The shaft (31) is moved by pistons (36, 37) coaxial with the shaft for the axial movement and a piston (46) at a right angle to the shaft for the rotational movement. In practice the axial movement is a translating movement and the rotary movement is a movement into and out of engagement with the gears. Throttle and clutch control functions are also provided so that a gear change is initiated and brought about by switches (19A and 19B).

  • Patent number: 5637052
Abstract: In a control system for controlling motor vehicles in such a manner that the drive force of the vehicle is determined by the accelerator pedal stroke and the vehicle speed, the fuel consumption is minimized by appropriately selecting the gear ratio of the power transmission system under each current operating condition. In particular, the present invention accounts for the slip ratio of the lock-up clutch as well as the transmission efficiency of the torque converter by noting the fact that the lock-up clutch operates under semi-tight conditions as well as under tight and loose conditions.

  • Patent number: 5520593
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmission shift control and prevention is provided. When the inching pedal is not depressed, the transmission is free to shift to the desired gear. When the inching pedal is depressed, the transmission is free to shift to the desired gear if the shift is a shift from a gear into neutral. With the inching pedal depressed and the shift lever moved from neutral into a gear, the transmission is free to shift if the transmission speed is below first gear high idle. When a directional shift has been requested, the transmission is free to shift to the desired gear if the transmission speed is below first gear high idle.
