Clutch And Transmission Controlled Patents (Class 477/79)
  • Patent number: 5853076
Abstract: This invention includes an apparatus for calibrating fluid clutch fill times including a valve, a clutch connected to the valve, a fluid supply connected to the valve, a pressure transducer connected between the fluid supply and the valve, and a processor adapted to control the valve, read the pressure transducer, and calculate the time required to fill the clutch. The invention further includes a method for adaptively controlling clutch engagement and disengagement in a clutch control system including signalling a first clutch valve to fill a clutch, measuring the time required to fill the clutch, signalling a second clutch valve to empty a second clutch, and saving the time value.

  • Patent number: 5630772
Abstract: A system and method for controlling an automatic transmission in a vehicle drive train including an engine, the automatic transmission and a fluid coupling for transmitting the rotation of the engine to the transmission. The transmission includes a clutch applied when a forward running range is selected; a second one-way clutch which is applied, when the first clutch is applied, to establish a forward 1st speed; and a brake for locking the one-way clutch, when applied, to block the reverse rotation of the output shaft of the transmission. A first hydraulic servo receives a first oil pressure for applying the first clutch and a second hydraulic servo receives a second oil pressure for applying the brake. When a forward running range is selected, with the vehicle stopped, the engine idling and a foot brake engaged, the oil pressure of the first hydraulic servo is lowered from the oil pressure at the 1st speed whereas the oil pressure of the second hydraulic servo is raised to a modulated pressure.

  • Patent number: 5626534
Abstract: A clutch control system for the automatic control of a motor vehicle clutch which connects an engine with a gearbox under the control of a driver-operated gear ratio selector lever. The control system includes an electronic control unit which controls initial clutch take-up on starting of the vehicle, clutch re-engagment following each ratio change, clutch disengagment on movement of the gear selector lever to change the operative ratio of the gearbox, and clutch disengagment on the coming to rest, etc. of the vehicle. The control system also incorporates an automatic calibration routine which is invoked on the inital keying-on of the system, said routine comprising a predetermined sequence of events in which the system responds to actions of the operator and at predetermined that the system is ready to proceed to the next stage of the calibration.

  • Patent number: 5622080
Abstract: A hydraulic control system for an automatic transmission of multiple clutch type (in FIG. 1), comprising an R cut valve 80 (and a 2-R sequence valve 70) whose positions are shifted in interlocking with the operations of dog clutches D.sub.2 (D.sub.r), and which control the supply of working oil to hydraulic actuators S.sub.r (S.sub.2) corresponding to the other dog clutches D.sub.r (D.sub.2) mounted on an identical one of power transmission shafts, so as to prohibit the engagement of the other dog clutches D.sub.r (D.sub.2), in a state in which the dog clutches D.sub.2 (D.sub.r) are engaged with speed change gears for the first or fourth speed stage (the reverse gear stage). Thus, even when the specified dog clutches D.sub.2 and D.sub.r are unintentionally engaged due to the fails thereof or the response delay of the hydraulic control system, the circulation of power is prevented from taking place.

  • Patent number: 5620391
Abstract: A control system and method for a vehicular semi-automatic mechanical transmission system (10) having a clutch operator (30) and an overriding manual clutch control (3) for controlling engagement and disengagement of the master clutch (14) is provided. The control is effective to sense manual clutch disengagement during a downshift and to cease further attempts to cause synchronization by engine fuel manipulation (ES=IS=OS * GR.sub.T) until a change in conditions is sensed.

  • Patent number: 5520593
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmission shift control and prevention is provided. When the inching pedal is not depressed, the transmission is free to shift to the desired gear. When the inching pedal is depressed, the transmission is free to shift to the desired gear if the shift is a shift from a gear into neutral. With the inching pedal depressed and the shift lever moved from neutral into a gear, the transmission is free to shift if the transmission speed is below first gear high idle. When a directional shift has been requested, the transmission is free to shift to the desired gear if the transmission speed is below first gear high idle.

  • Patent number: 5498195
Abstract: An electronic engine control monitors engine speed, vehicle speed and determines various engine RPM values and RPM ranges used in fueling a motor vehicle engine to achieve desired engine speeds prior to and during an automatic gear shift sequence. The engine is coupled to a manual/automatic transmission that includes manually selectable gear ratio operation modes and automatically selectable gear ratio operation modes. In order to verify engagement of the automatically selectable gear ratio operation modes, a predetermined reverse torque is introduced into the drivetrain by fueling the engine to certain predetermined levels after an automatic gear shift sequence begins and monitoring engine speed to test whether engine speed is within calculated synchronous engine speed ranges corresponding to the gear ratio of the desired automatically selectable gear ratio operation mode.

  • Patent number: 5425686
Abstract: The transmission control module of an automatic transmission includes a shift control module adapted to command a gear or gear range increment or decrement in dependence upon the switching of an enable switch and of an upshift switch and a downshift switch, the switches being provided on the vehicle steering wheel. The performance of the engine can thereby be controlled by the driver. The transmission control module can also be operated in an automatic mode, a semiautomatic mode and a manual mode in dependence upon the mode selected by selecting means.

  • Patent number: 5419412
Abstract: In a motor vehicle having a transmission (1) which can be optionally operated fully automatically or semi-automatically, and in which a gear-range selector (18) and a gear-shift control (21) are provided. The gear-range selector makes it possible to pre-select a travel speed in which the transmission is gradually shifted up or down by actuating the gear-shift control (21). The gear-shift control (21) is designed as a foot switch (22, 24) located in the foot area of a driver's cab of the motor vehicle, so that both of the driver's hands can stay on the steering wheel while these gear-shift operations are being carried out thereby permitting the driver to concentrate fully on the traffic.
