The dumbbell includes a gripping handle and a pair of collars fixedly connected to opposites ends of the handle. A series of weight plates having correspondingly different weights are adapted to be detachably connected to each other and to each one of the collars so as to enable a user to selectively and incrementally adjust the gross weight of the dumbbell to conform to his weight training program. Each weight plate carries a lock cartridge having an engagement pin moving therethrough between retracted and extended positions in response to a manual pushing force. In the extended position, the engagement pin of an additional weight plate is received within an engagement pin extension channel of an existing weight plate being carried by the dumbbell, whereby to prevent a disconnection of the additional weight plate from the existing weight plate.

Abstract: An exercise device comprising a bar, a weight assembly, an end plate and a securing member. The bar comprises an end portion onto which the weight assembly is mounted. The securing member co-operates with the end plate to secure the weight assembly to the end portion of the bar. The end plate is rotationally fixed relative to the weight assembly to mitigate against loosening of the securing member during use.

  • Publication number: 20070161474
Abstract: An exercising apparatus which comprises first and second sets of weights, each of which has an opening extending inwardly from a periphery thereof defined by opposed surfaces. An elongated tubular assembly is provided which has a longitudinal axis and includes exterior surfaces constructed and arranged to provide a central surface area configured to be manually engaged by a user and first and second surface areas on opposite sides of the central surface area configured to enter the openings of the first and second sets of weights into operative positions therein. The tubular assembly includes first and second sets of locking elements mounted within the first and second surface areas thereof for movement between weight releasing positions disposed within their respective first and second surface areas and weight locking positions extending partially outwardly of the respective first and second surface areas. The opposed surfaces of the weights have lock element receiving recesses therein.

  • Patent number: 7223214
Abstract: An adjustable dumbbell device includes a handle, a number of weights each having a channel to slidably receive an end portion of the handle, and a latch slidably engaged onto the end portion of the handle and engageable into the channels of a selected number of the weights, to secure the selected number of the weights to the end portion of the handle. A securing device may be used for securing the latch to the end portion of the handle, and includes one or more beams attached to the end portion of the handle, and a spring biasing catch may catch the latch to the beams or the end portion of the handle.

  • Patent number: 7201711
Abstract: A barbell comprises a bar with a receptacle at each end of the bar. The receptacle is configured to receive a selectorized dumbbell therein. The dumbbell is placed into the receptacle in a first loaded condition with a plurality of weights being coupled to the dumbbell. After such placement, the dumbbell can be adjusted to a second loaded condition in which the dumbbell carries fewer weights than in the first loaded condition. The dumbbell is then removed from the receptacle while in the second loaded condition to thereby leave behind at least one weight in the receptacle. Alternatively, the dumbbell in its first loaded condition can simply be left in its entirety in the receptacle. A lock can be provided on the receptacle to help retain within the receptacle either the dumbbell or the weights left behind in the receptacle. Thus, at least portions of selectorized dumbbells provide exercise mass for the barbell.

  • Patent number: 7182716
Abstract: A dumbbell including a tubular handle with a thread on the inside surface of the tube. A straight groove that cuts through the internal thread is also formed on the inside surface of the tubular handle. A stop plate is mounted on each end of the tubular handle. A pair of retainers are provided, each retainer being a shaft with a retainer plate on one end. Each shaft has a partial thread on its outside surface extending the length of the respective shaft. A weight plate stack is mounted on the shaft and the shaft is securely inserted into the tubular handle by aligning the partial thread with the groove, sliding the shaft through openings in the weight plates into the tubular handle, then rotating each shaft to where the partial thread on the shaft engages the interior thread of the tubular handle.

  • Patent number: 7153243
Abstract: Discrete weight selecting members are movably mounted on a handle assembly and selectively rotatable into engagement with respective weight plates to provide adjustable resistance to exercise movement. Adjustable resistance to exercise is provided by rotatably mounting individual weight selectors on a bar, moving the bar into alignment with a group of weights, and rotating respective weight selectors into engagement with desired weights.

  • Patent number: 7137931
Abstract: A weight lifting device includes a handle having two end segments, a number of weight members each having a slot to receive either of the end segments of the handle, and an anchor plate rotatably attached to each of the weight members and having an opening selectively aligned with the slot of the weight member, to selectively receive either of the end segments of the handle. The anchor plate is rotatable relative to the weight member to offset the opening of the anchor plate from the slot of the weight member, and to selectively anchor the weight member to the handle. The desired number of weight members may thus be selectively attached to the handle.
