Patent number: 7591772Abstract: An exercise device comprises a bar, pairs of weights comprising weight collars which can be removably secured to either end of the bar, and a coupling for each weight collar. One of the bar or the weight collar has means for receiving a detent, e.g., a circular groove on an inner diameter of an axial central bore. A locking device is positioned in the other one of the bar or the weight collar. In arriving at a locked position, a spring-biased, axially disposed actuator pushes ball bearing detents, by camming action, radially outwardly through an aperture in the component housing the locking device to rest in a radially adjacent circumferential groove. The actuator is depressed to permit radially inward movement of the detents so that the weight collars caps can be removed.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 2007Date of Patent: September 22, 2009Inventor: Richard A. Publication number: 20080032873Abstract: A selectorized dumbbell has a handle that can be inserted into a gap between stacks of nested left and right weight plates. A selector determines how many left weight plates are coupled to the left end of the handle and how many right weight plates are coupled to the right end of the handle. The arms are restored to their normal orientation once the impact shock dissipates. This allows the impact shock to be absorbed without damaging the dumbbell or while minimizing damage to the dumbbell.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 2, 2006Publication date: February 7, 2008Inventors: Carl K. Patent number: 7314438Abstract: An exercise apparatus includes first and second handles that fit within a user's hands and are formed from non-porous and water impermeable material. Each handle has a medially disposed end provided with a disc-shaped region and a central cylindrical region. The central region is intercalated between first and second disc-shaped regions and has a diameter smaller than corresponding diameters of the disc-shaped regions. Elongated and hollow shafts have lateral ends conjoined with the medial ends of the handles. The shafts have coextensive lengths and arcuate shapes. The lateral end is conjoined to the handles. A mechanism is included for attaching the shafts together such that the second shaft partially slides into the first shaft. Portable weight members are attached to the handles, against the central regions. A helical spring member is housed within one handle and abuts the first shaft, providing a resistive force against which the shaft is engaged.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 2005Date of Patent: January 1, 2008Inventors: Carol Clark, Rickie Clark

Publication number: 20070298940Abstract: A dumbbell and incremental weight plate for same are disclosed herein comprising a bar that extends generally axially between opposing end regions, a weight plate mass mounted about the bar at each end region, and at least one incremental weight plate mountable on said weigh plate mass. One of the weight plate mass and incremental weight plate has at least a pair of such regions with a north magnetic pole and a south magnetic pole. The other of the weight plate mass and incremental weight plate has at least one magnetic region constituting a magnetic pole.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 22, 2006Publication date: December 27, 2007Inventor: Karl Anderson

Publication number: 20070298939Abstract: A dumbbell having weight plates onto which magnetically coupled incremental weight plates can be securely mounted comprises a bar, weights at the end regions of the bar, means for retaining the weight plates at the respective ends to define a handle region therebetween, and a sleeve of generally annular cross-section securely mounted about the bar at least one end region axially outward from the weight plate, said sleeve member having (a) a hub portion for accommodating the through-opening of a weight plate, and (b) a flange portion of greater exterior dimension than the hub portion and having at least one magnetically-responsive region for magnetically securing an incremental weight to the dumbbell when said incremental weight plate is mounted about said hub region. In accordance with the invention, an adaptor to convert conventional dumbbells to utilize magnetically-coupled incremental weight plates comprises elements (a) and (b) above.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 22, 2006Publication date: December 27, 2007Inventor: Karl Anderson

Patent number: 7311641Abstract: An exercise device for weightlifting or weight training for use with resistance type weightlifting exercises. The device is a V-shaped, solid, weighted exercise bar with two wings and an apex. The wings contain handle grips and are capable of having weight plates, discs and collars attached. The apex contains a projecting post that extends in an outward direction and holds weight, whereby the weight balances and counterbalances the weight on the wings. The total weight on the apex can be heavier, lighter or equal to the total weight on the wings. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the apex and wings are capable of accepting standard weight plates and discs using conventional weightlifting collars to hold the weights in place. In an alternative embodiment the apex and wings are permanently set with weights. Included are corresponding weight training methods for use with the exercise device.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 2005Date of Patent: December 25, 2007Inventor: George C. Panagos

Publication number: 20070287611Abstract: A method of manufacturing an exercise device, includes the steps of providing a bar having an end portion; providing a collar for receiving the end portion; forming a weight section about the collar to form a weight assembly including a weight section and a collar; mounting the weight assembly on the end portion; providing a first securing member; and securing the weight assembly to the bar using the first securing member. The weight section is formed about the collar by casting.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 26, 2007Publication date: December 13, 2007Applicant: Escape Fitness LimitedInventor: Richard Zdzislaw Januszek
