Abstract: An exercise machine includes a frame including a first portion and a second portion positioned in a plane generally perpendicular to the first portion. A carriage assembly moves along a linear path parallel to the first portion. A drive unit is joined to the frame for movement the carriage assembly in a first direction and a second direction. The drive unit includes a motor, a ball screw joined to the motor, and at least one support bearing rotatably joined to the ball screw and joined to the carriage assembly for enabling the carriage to move along the linear path in response to the ball screw rotating. A first sensor activates the motor in a first mode to move the carriage in the first direction. A second sensor activates the motor in a second mode to move the carriage in the second direction.

Abstract: A system for training and evaluating bilateral symmetric force output of upper limbs has a force application unit of bilateral upper limbs, a movable link unit, a signal conversion unit, a computing unit and a driving unit. The force application unit of bilateral upper limbs has at least two force sensors. When stroke patients perform training, the system can instantaneously measure values of forces exerted by users and sensed by the sensors, and determine if the movable link unit is driven according to a pre-configured training pattern, so that both hands of patients are allowed to perform training movements pushing forward and pulling backward to promote training mechanism of dual-brain hemisphere organization and improve moving capability of upper limb of affected side.

  • Publication number: 20090312150
Abstract: An exercise system has an operating unit, an input unit, a detector, a control unit and a display unit. The operating unit is an operation device that receives forces exerted by a user. The input unit is for setting a personal physical parameter set of the user. The detector senses a heart rate of the user. The control unit receives the personal physical parameter set from the input unit, receives the heart rate from the detector, defines a boundary heart rate according to the personal physical parameter set and generates a display command by comparing the heart rate with the boundary heart rate. The display unit receives the display command to accordingly generate a safety indication signal. The user can prevent injuries or over-training fatigue by perceiving the safety indication signal and then adjust the exercise intensity.

Abstract: An exercise machine that varies a resistive load based on sensed changes in intensity of exercise. In one example, an electronic control system of a stationary bicycle adjusts a flywheel resistive load based on changes in the user's pedal cadence. During the exercise routine, subsequent increases or decreases in the pedal cadence cause, respectively, increases or decreases in the flywheel resistive load. In addition, the control system may execute the exercise routine after actuation of a single input key. In another embodiment, the user may simply start to exercise. The electronic control system may calculate a default flywheel resistive load based on initialization parameters, such as demographic data and/or exercise preferences.
