Abstract: An exercise machine for performing squat exercises is provided for. The exercise machine comprises a support frame with a shaft horizontally mounted on the frame for rotation about its longitudinal axis. There is at least one weight arm connected to the shaft. The weight arm is adapted to carry a weight at a point distant from the connection between the weight arm and the rotating shaft. Thus, the weight arm provides resistance and load as the shaft rotates. The novel squat machines also comprise a work arm that is connected to the shaft such that actuation of the work arm causes the shaft to rotate. A yoke is connected to the work arm. The yoke is adapted to accommodate the shoulders of an exerciser such that the exerciser is able to provide upward force on the work arm in opposition to the resistance of the weight arm by performing a squat exercise. When the exerciser performs the squat, the work arm causes the shaft to rotate and the weight arm to travel along an arcuate path.

  • Patent number: 6561961
Abstract: An adjusting mechanism for a seat back of an exerciser includes a pressure rod provided behind a seat back frame. The pressure rod has a cylinder, with its top surface pivotally connected to the seat back frame and a cylinder piston rod having a pressure-leaking valve provided at a lower end to leak out pressure in the cylinder and activate the cylinder piston rod to extend and shrink. A control rod base is fixed behind the seat back frame, having a housing for receiving the cylinder shaft. A control rod is fitted with the control rod base, with its horizontal end contacting with the pressure-leaking valve and its vertical rod positioned beside the seat frame. When the vertical rod is swung up, the pressure-leaking valve leak out the pressure in the cylinder and the cylinder piston rod activate the seat back frame to move backward to any angle.

  • Patent number: 6551226
Abstract: An adjustment apparatus for adjusting the position of a member on an exercise machine has an inner tube with a series of spaced pinning holes and an outer tube telescopically engaged over the inner tube and having a locator hole for alignment with a selected pinning hole. A lever has a pinning section pivotally mounted on the outer tube to extend across the locator hole, and a hand engaging section extending at an angle to the pinning section. The pinning section is pivotable between an operative position in which a pinning button projects through the locator hole and an aligned pinning hole in the inner tube to secure the tubes together, and a retracted position in which the pinning button is spaced from the locator hole. A handle is mounted on the outer tube to extend in the same general direction as the hand-engaging section such that a user gripping the handle can engage the hand-engaging section and urge it towards the handle to pivot the pinning section into the retracted position.

Abstract: A variable resistance abdominal bench is presented which has adjustable feet and handles. The adjustable feet and handles allow the bench to be adjusted to the size of the particular user of the equipment. The bench also has a torso part and a seat part. The torso and seat parts are pivotable. Attached to the torso part of the bench is a weight that slides along a track underneath the torso part. The weight can be placed on either side of the pivot point so that a negative or positive resistance can be created. The exerciser thus has the option of doing an assisted sit-up or doing a sit-up against an added weight.
