Vertical Position Holder Actuated By Pivoting Closure Patents (Class 49/181)
  • Patent number: 4682455
Abstract: An insulated sliding window assembly includes a compression seal between a mobile sash and the window frame. A locking mechanism cams the mobile sash to move both parallel to and transverse to the plane of the window frame, causing the sash to compress the seal and to be positively locked to the window frame. The moveable sash of the invention includes rollers which roll on guides. The sliding window assembly also includes mechanisms for releasing and pivoting the exterior moveable sash to a maintenance position.

  • Patent number: 4644691
Abstract: A window sash is mounted for downward and inward tilting by a pair of grooved spools which project laterally into channels formed in the side jambs of the window. The grooves in the spools track along vertical ribs formed in the channels and normally move freely along the ribs to permit free up and down movement of the sash. When the sash is tilted downwardly and inwardly, the side walls of the spool grooves frictionally pinch the ribs to restrict up and down movement of the sash and to help stabilize the tilted sash.

  • Patent number: 4640048
Abstract: A window sash formed preferably of plastic and having a pair of horizontal upper and lower rails and vertical stiles. The rails and stiles are extruded to form a principal outside edge wall for the sash and a plurality of additional walls and bosses within each of the rails and stiles perpendicular to said outside wall, including a pair of walls forming a channel with said outside walls. The stiles and rails are diagonally cut at the ends to form a miter joint. The miter joint is integrated by a single screw passing at each corner from the rail into the stile. One or more of the bosses and walls within the rail forms a support for the screw at each corner which will prevent angling of the screw. Each of the stiles has at least one boss for receiving the screw, said boss extending longitudinally of the stile. The single screw at each corner is therefore anchored against any angling both with respect to the rail and the stile and thereby forms a secure, non-slip miter joint.

  • Patent number: 4610108
Abstract: The invention relates to tilt-out window assemblies in which a window sash may be rotated from its normal vertical position causing a slide block connected to a spring balance assembly to be locked into place to prevent release of the spring balance assembly on tilting or removal of the window sash from the window frame. The slide block rides in the jamb channel in which the window sash normally slides up and down and incorporates a rotatable locking cam. The locking cam is rotated on tilting of the window sash so as to force a set of locking members against the sides of the window frame jamb channel to engage the block into a fixed position in the channel. The window sash is operatively connected to the locking cam to provide rotation thereof to lock the slidable block. The window sash may be removed from the frame and from engagement with the locking cam if desired.

Abstract: An arrangement for tiltably mounting a lateral portion of a window sash in a track of a window frame for sliding longitudinally of the track and for tilting out of the plane of the window frame includes a mounting slide received in the track and including a main portion having an opening that receives a mounting region of a shank portion of a bearing element. The main portion further has two arms which depend from a top region of the main portion and have holding regions which embrace a spreading region of the bearing element. The spreading region includes two flats in an otherwise cylindrical outline, these flats facing the holding regions while the window sash is in the plane of the window frame such that retaining regions of the arms are spaced from side portions of the track and the mounting slide is free to move along the latter.
