Patent number: 4953241Abstract: An improved bathtub with a door for easy access by older and physically handicapped persons is disclosed. The bathtub includes an entrance wall with an opening which conforms to the shape of the door, and a front wall adjacent to the entrance wall. A seat is located in the tub with the forward edge of the seat located so as to provide a leg space between the seat and the front wall of the tub. The front edge of the door is attached adjacent to the front wall of the bathtub by means of a double axis hinge. When the door is opened, its front edge is guided directly inwardly in the tub by means of a tracking mechanism and the rear edge moves forward without any significant inward movement. In the fully opened position, the door is parallel to the front wall. The door is so configured that during movement it does not swing over the seat, and an occupant of the tub can be seated while the door is moved between its closed and open positions.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1988Date of Patent: September 4, 1990Inventor: Douglas P. Patent number: 4937976Abstract: A window operator and hinge structure for a casement window which can be simply factory pre-set for positioning of a window in either egress or wash modes, with switching between modes requiring no additional parts or special tools. The structure has a pivoted handle movable between a closed, inactive position flush with a sill cover and rotatable to an inclined, active position. The handle, in its pivoting movement, operates window locking structure and also controls the action of a brake, with release of the brake by raising of the handle to operative position. Motion-transmitting connections between the handle and linkage structure include the brake as well as the clutch, with the clutch effective to limit the torque that can be applied to the linkage. The handle can be moved to closed, inactive position with the window open so that no handle protrudes and this movement of the handle sets the brake so that a wind cannot move the window.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1989Date of Patent: July 3, 1990Assignee: Truth IncorporatedInventors: Daniel G. Tucker, Gregory J. Vetter

Patent number: 4286411Abstract: A manually-operable balanced door with improved operating characteristics is mounted to pivot around a guide roller so that a hinge side of the door swings inwardly from a door frame while a latching side of the door swings outwardly from the door frame. A door closer within the header is reversed from its position in a prior construction so that a rotatable closer shaft extends downwardly from a hinge side portion of the door frame header. The check shaft is coupled by a rigid closer arm to the latching side of the door, while the hinge side of the door is supported between upper and lower door pivot arms. A bearing assembly is disposed within a hinge end of the upper pivot arm and encircles a pivot pin that is supported within a cavity in a side jamb, the pivot pin being easily removable for disassembling the door from the door frame.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 1979Date of Patent: September 1, 1981Assignee: Wikk Industries, Inc.Inventors: Lee Wikkerink, James R. -
Patent number: 4223483Abstract: A combination hinge and opening bias mechanism for a closure of a vehicle such as a trunk deck lid including a hinge arm attached at one end to the closure with the other end guided by a horizontal track extending beneath an adjacent backlite of the vehicle body. Movement of the end of the hinge arm in the track is controlled by the pivoting of a torsion bar which extends laterally across the closure and with the end of a crankarm portion attached in pivotal relation to the body. During opening movement, the hinged edge of the closure pivots upward and slightly rearward as the elongated portion of the torsion bar rotates about the crankarm end. This upward movement is accompanied by rearward movement of the hinge arm in the track. The simultaneous dual pivoting of the closure moves the hinged edge portion of the closure rapidly upwardly in a substantially vertical direction so as not to contact the adjacent backlite of the vehicle which is only slightly spaced forward thereof.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 1979Date of Patent: September 23, 1980Assignee: Chrysler CorporationInventor: Douglas J. Stafford

Patent number: 4007558Abstract: Turnable window arrangement with a casement connected to a window frame by means of two oppositely directed pivot pins at one end of the casement which is uppermost when the latter is in its normal closed position. The pivot pins slidably engage their respective associated guide grooves in the window frame to permit this one end of the casement to be displaced to selected pivotal positions between upper and lower ends of the frame. The pivot pins are also displaceable in the casement in a direction substantially parallel to the height dimension of the casement, namely parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vertical side portion of the casement. Link arm mechanisms are arranged on their respective opposite sides of the casement for the support of the latter in the window frame at the selected pivotal positions.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1976Date of Patent: February 15, 1977Assignee: Leif N.
