Patent number: 11692384Abstract: A foot operable door opener operates, without using one's hands, and without an electrical assist. The entrance cycle is initiated by stepping on a pedal. This force drives the pedal a ¼ turn, engaging a soft wheel to open the door. The pedal is hard linked to a crank arm which goes into a unidirectional crank shaft hub to turn the wheel. The downward pressure from the pedal pivots a ratcheted hinge connected to a bracketed spring-loaded wheel assembly to keep constant pressure to the ground. A gear box or multiple pumps of the pedal turns the wheel two or more 360 degrees rotations, opening the door to allow the entrant to pass until the foot pedal is dis-engaged. This action releases the ratcheting hinge mechanism, allowing the spring assisted wheel assemble to rotate to its original up position, releasing the wheel from the ground, allowing the door to close.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 2021Date of Patent: July 4, 2023Inventor: Joseph Ivan Jaroff

Publication number: 20140311032Abstract: To further reduce the space required for installation, and to facilitate installation of a device for opening and closing a door by the stepping force of a pedestrian, the door-opening/closing device includes a step plate (2) provided with multiple bearings, a link (5) whose one end is coupled to a bearing (6) of the step plate (2), with the bearing (6) disposed in a metal part fixed on the floor and coupled to the other end of the link (5). The step plate (2) remains horizontal when stepped on, and moves downward in an arcuate manner in the direction in which the pedestrian is walking. The door (1) is opened and closed using this displacement (i.e., the step plate's downward movement) as a motive force. The return mechanism of the step plate (2) is composed of a link extender in which the other end side of the link (5) is extended in the direction opposite from the step plate (2), and a weight (7) that is axially supported on the extending-end part of the link extender.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 11, 2012Publication date: October 23, 2014Applicant: miimo LTD.Inventor: Yasuo Nakano

Publication number: 20140165470Abstract: A gate apparatus includes a frame that is approximately in a shape of a letter “U”, a gate that opens forward or backward, a rotational support device that supports the gate so that the gate rotates and moves upward relative to the frame, a locking device that locks the gate at a closed position, and a pedal device that unlocks the locking device. The pedal device includes a pair of pedals on the both sides of the gate, and a push-up member that is linked to the pair of pedals. The push-up member includes a push-up surface that tilts when the pedal is operated. The push-up surface tilts so that the push-up surface moves upward and comes in contact with the gate on the side closer to the pedal that has been operated, and applies a push-up force and a rotation force to the gate.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 14, 2013Publication date: June 19, 2014Applicant: RICHELL CORPORATIONInventors: Yoichi MATSUDA, Satoshi URABE

Patent number: 8510992Abstract: An automatic gate opening device is claimed comprising: a gate drive axis (134), movable between a gate closed position and a gate open position; a treadle (102) and a rechargeable energy storage means (16, 118). The device also comprises an energy conversion means to convert stored energy into rotational movement of the drive axis (134) in a gate opening and energy conversion means to convert stored energy into rotational movement of the drive axis in a gate closing direction. The treadle (102) is configured such that, with the drive axis (134) in its gate open position, a single actuation of said treadle (102) recharges the energy storage means with sufficient energy to move the drive axis from its gate open position to its gate closed position and back to its gate open position.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 2010Date of Patent: August 20, 2013Assignee: Silverline Tools LimitedInventor: James Goddard-Watts

Patent number: 7114290Abstract: A gate opening system which includes a barrier and a barrier mounting adapted to mount the barrier in an open or closed condition, a retention device to secure the barrier in an open or closed condition, a drive element, and an energy transmission system, whereby energy is transferred from the weight of a vehicle and is in turn transmitted through the transmission system to rotate the drive element, causing the barrier mounting to be lifted, the disengagement of the retention device, and the barrier thereby opened or closed.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2004Date of Patent: October 3, 2006Assignee: Innovative Engineering Solutions LimitedInventor: Bernhard Stubbe

Patent number: 6883274Abstract: A method and device for opening a door includes a receptacle structure. The receptacle structure is coupled to the door. The receptacle structure has a top surface and an angled guiding surface. The top surface forms an angled protrusion. The receptacle structure has a receptacle and the receptacle is formed between the top surface and the angled guiding surface. The device also includes a latching rod and a sliding assembly coupled to the latching rod. Movement of the sliding assembly causes the latching rod to contact the angled protrusion. The contact of the latching rod with the angled protrusion of the receptacle structure causes the rod to push the receptacle structure and the door to a partially open position. After contacting the angled protrusion, the latching rod navigates across the angled guiding surface of the receptacle structure, pushing the door to a further partially open position.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 2001Date of Patent: April 26, 2005Assignee: Knaack Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Fred C. Patent number: 4378657Abstract: A laterally swinging gate adapted for opening with a vehicle comprises a gate frame including stiff longitudinal members (1, 2) and upright end members (3, 4) interconnected and adapted to function as a torsion spring. The gas is pivoted at one end to a first post (16) for pivotal movement about an inclined hinge axis so that the gate is normally urged toward the closed position. At the other end of the gate a pair of second posts (71) support a bumper thrust actuated assembly (62) by which the gate is longitudinally twisted. A latch mechanism (64) releases the gate at a predetermined angle of twist so that it can swing to the open position under spring action. The gate is held in the open position for a predetermined time by a retainer mechanism (60) mounted on the first post (16).Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1980Date of Patent: April 5, 1983Inventor: Felix B.
