  • Patent number: 7472516
Abstract: A threshold assembly includes a base defining a channel, a plurality of nuts slideably engaged in the channel, a rail disposed on the base and defining a plurality of holes, and a plurality of threaded fasteners rotationally retained in the holes and threadedly engaging the nuts. The channel has a neck and a pair of opposing sides angling outwardly from the neck into the base. Each nut presents opposing contact surfaces complimentary to the opposing sides of the channel such that the nut is slideably engaged in the channel. The nut also includes an elongated platform such that when the threaded fastener is rotated, the elongated platform and the opposing contact surfaces of the nut engage the opposing sides of the channel such that the height of the rail relative to the base is adjusted in response to rotation of the threaded fastener relative to the nut.

  • Publication number: 20080148645
Abstract: A door threshold may comprise a main body formed from two feet. In certain example embodiments, a male-female connection between the feet may be used to adjust the depth of the door threshold. In certain other example embodiments, a center bridge insert to be used in connection with two female feet to adjust the depth of the door threshold. In still further example embodiments, one or more center layers may be disposed between two feet, with the size of the center layer(s) determining the depth of the door threshold. Also, the door threshold may include upper and lower members for sandwiching carpet and/or carpet padding therebetween which, in certain example embodiments, may grip the carpet to reduce the ease with which it may be pulled out from between the upper and lower members. Thus, certain example embodiments may reduce and/or eliminate the need for tacks proximate to the threshold.

  • Patent number: 7389611
Abstract: An adjustable threshold has a lip portion with an adjustable vinyl insert to prevent material from becoming trapped or from engaging a seam present between a floor and a frame member portion adjacent to the floor. The adjustable threshold engages an H-rail trapped in the main U-shaped channel of the frame member which in turn covers and is generally supported by a substrate block. In a preferred embodiment, a first and generally front wall of the frame member is engaged only on one side by a threshold cap. The lip serves to help entrap a second descending wall of the threshold cap and to keep it in place to provide support and stability for the threshold cap. Alternative embodiments exist wherein a lip is advantageously present in a variety of embodiments.

  • Patent number: 6789358
Abstract: A threshold assembly includes a unitary compression molded plastic composite body formed to define an upwardly open threshold cap channel, jamb boots at its ends, and a support substrate outboard of the channel. An extruded aluminum sill plate is snapped into place on the plastic body and a vertically adjustable threshold cap is disposed in the upwardly open channel. Drain channels may be formed in the plastic body to direct water outwardly and away from the threshold assembly. • Publication number: 20020129557
Abstract: A door sill assembly for use in an external doorway of a building having a novel, flexible, resilient weatherseal strip is disclosed. The weatherseal strip is disposed between a threshold member and an opposing upright side wall of a metal weather cover. A portion of the strip is attached to and covers an exterior facing side portion of the threshold member and contains a flashing or flap depending downwardly from a sloping shoulder which laps over an upper edge portion of the upright side wall. Water falling upon the weatherseal as, for example, due to rainwater dripping from the external face of an overhanging door when in a closed position, will be directed over the sloping shoulder and flashing beyond the upright side wall onto a sloping foot plate of the weather cover, there to gravitate off an exterior end of the weather cover. The weatherseal thus protects underlying wood parts of the door sill assembly from moisture damage without being held in a compressed state.

  • Patent number: 4156325
Abstract: A sill assembly for covering the bottom frame of a door, a window or the like, of the adjustment-wedge type, wherein a wedge is operated from the interior of the door frame to align the crown of the sill with the bottom wedge of the door. The invention advances the art by providing extrusion molded members whose shape and disposition combines light weight and rigidity of the assembly, by utilizing the entire length of the sill for the wedging action and also by providing the sill crown of the type of an integral molded member including a reinforcing portion of a generally tubular cross-section which also forms one of the two wedging members.

  • Patent number: 4146995
Abstract: The present invention relates to an adjustable threshold for use in door openings and adjustable to provide a better seal between the threshold and the door comprising first and second partial thresholds, fastening means to secure said first partial threshold to the floor, a flexible partial threshold operably mounted to and disposed between said first and second partial threshold, and a plurality of adjustable fastening means operably mounted on and disposed between said first and second partial thresholds such that such adjustable fastening means cause the first and second partial thresholds to be drawn toward or away from each other and thereby cause the flexible threshold to raise or lower at various points along the length of the threshold.

  • Patent number: 4104830
Abstract: An adjustable threshold assembly includes a base member having a central groove for receiving an inverted U-shaped channel threshold member, which is supported by a plurality of wedge sets spaced at regular intervals and each consisting of a fixed bottom wedge and a top wedge removably fastened to the web of the threshold member by passage of a screw through a slot in the web. Height adjustment is provided by lateral translation of the top wedges in cooperation with the corresponding fixed bottom wedge. The threshold member includes a resilient door engaging cushion strip overlying the web and covering the screws and slots therein.

  • Patent number: 4098027
Abstract: A sliding-door and sliding-screen sill having several elongated rail members for individually supporting a sliding-door and a sliding-screen. Each such rail member is extruded of aluminum and is formed with at least one elongated break-notch whereby an installer can remove substantially any desired width of the base of either or both rail members to enable them to be placed in juxtaposition and yet cause the rails to be spaced the desired distance as defined by thee relationship between the exisiting sliding-door and sliding-screen. An L-shaped foundation member and a spacer are employed, the rail members being secured to one side of the foundation member.

  • Patent number: 4074464
Abstract: This invention relates to an improvement for adjustable thresholds. The invention includes a threshold base having a channel extending through the length of the base. Sitting in the channel of the base is an elongated bar having an inverted U-shape cross-section. Throughout the length of the bar are several holes extending through the base of the U-shaped section. Several of these holes are threaded and a bolt is screwed into the threaded hole with the head of the bolt sitting on the bottom of the channel in the base. Screwing the bolt into and out of the threaded hole in the bar will raise and lower the bar, and once the height of the bar has been adjusted, it is fixed in the base of the threshold by a screw extending through holes in the bottom of the inverted U-shaped bar and screwed into threaded holes in the bottom of the channel of the base.

  • Patent number: 3967412
Abstract: A vertically adjustable threshold member or bar is shipped in a down position and is adjusted upwardly at installation by attached shouldered leveling screws engaging within flared T-nuts of base or sub-structue. A compressible seal is interposed between the outer longitudinal edge of the adjustable threshold member and an extruded metal sill. The outer longitudinal edge of the threshold member is beveled slightly for increasing pressure on seal as threshold member is raised.
