  • Patent number: 6640499
Abstract: A door weather strip structure includes a first weather strip and a second weather strip, fitted into a door sash. A seal block kept in elastic contact with a retainer of the door sash is provided in the vicinity of a connection between a molded part which is a portion of the second weather strip, corresponding to the roof of an automobile, and an extruded part on the side of a pillar, positioned on a side opposite from an extruded part on the side of a center pillar. The seal block prevents water intruding on the molded part from flowing down through the gap passage formed among the first weather strip, the second weather strip, and the door sash making ingress into the interior of the automobile through the lower part of the front pillar.

  • Publication number: 20030159358
Abstract: A weather strip for attachment along a side of a roof of a motor vehicle has a bottom portion to be attached to a door opening portion and a seal wall of which side ends are respectively connected to the bottom portion. The bottom portion and the seal wall define a tubular space of which the height is less than the width thereof. A widthwise inside half of the bottom portion is composed of a solid rubber, and is attached to the door opening portion via a base plate of a roof-side moulding. A widthwise outside half of the bottom portion and the seal wall are continuously formed of a sponge rubber. The widthwise outside half of the bottom portion serves as an extended part of the seal wall, and flexes along with the seal wall when the seal wall is pushed by a door glass upwardly, thereby sufficiently wrapping a peripheral edge of the door glass.

  • Patent number: 6598349
Abstract: An apparatus and method for joining the ends of a weatherstrip from inside a channel section of the weatherstrip. A v-shaped fastening clip has a plurality of teeth extending therefrom and the orientation of the teeth can be altered to securely grip both ends of the weatherstrip. The v-shaped clip may also have a structural frame depending from it to define a w-shaped configuration. The w-shaped configuration provides flexural rigidity to the spliced section of the weatherstrip and additional strength and rigidity that is particularly useful for heavy components. The method comprises inserting the fastening clip (either the v-shaped or w-shaped configuration) into the first end of the weatherstrip and then inserting the fastening clip into the second end of the weatherstrip. The teeth of the fastening clip are then re-oriented to mechanically grip the weatherstrip.

Abstract: An automotive light transmitting panel mounting structure for mounting a light transmitting panel to a frame, includes: a frame having a mounting flange; a light transmitting panel bonded relatively movably to the frame; a weather strip held by the mounting flange of the frame for sealing a space between the frame and the light transmitting panel; and elastic sealing material filled in a space surrounded by the frame, the light transmitting panel and the weather strip. The weather strip includes: a body portion; a leg portion extending from the body portion to face the body portion for clamping the mounting flange of the frame in cooperation with the body portion; and a contact lip projecting from the leg portion in elastic contact with an end face of the light transmitting panel so that the elastic sealing material is prevented from entering between the leg portion and the contact lip.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a trim or a seal member such as an opening trim weather strip. The trim or a trim body in the seal member has a holding lip portion and modified holding lip portions. And the holding lip portion and modified holding lip portions have head portions. The head portions are made to bulge out toward a bottom wall portion at the tip ends of modified holding lip portions of the trim or the trim body of trim portion. The modified holding lip portions are formed so that projecting lengths of the head portions from the end surfaces of tip end portions of the modified holding lip portions, and the thicknesses of the head portions increase in inverse proportion to lip projecting lengths of the modified holding lip portions from an inner surface of an interior side wall portion. Alternatively, a slope inclined with respect to an extension plane of an opening-portion-side surface of a base end portion is formed at tip ends of the modified holding lip portions.

Abstract: A heated vehicle weather stripping system which comprises a power supply and a number of rubber weather stripping elements each including resilient rubber weather stripping portions and a heating element installed within the resilient weather stripping portion wherein the heating element is controlled by a control unit that prevents the heating element from being heated to a temperature above the point where the weather stripping would be damaged and further activates the heating element to keep the weather stripping above the freezing point and thus preventing the doors and hatches of the vehicle from being frozen shut from frozen weather stripping. The control unit is powered by either 115 volts AC power or 12 volts DC power and is alternatively activated by an on/off switch located within the vehicle, an on/off switch located outside the vehicle, or a remote control on/off sender attached to a key chain of the user.

Abstract: In the weather strip, an extended portion formed integrally with a base portion of the weather strip is bonded with an attachment panel of a door frame by a double-sided adhesive tape. Since the extended portion is formed like a flat plate, the extended portion can be pressed uniformly and quickly by a pressing jig. Thus, the weather strip can be bonded with the attachment panel easily. In addition, since only one hollow portion is provided in a seal portion, the configuration of the weather strip can be made so simple that it is possible to connect extruded portions of the weather strip with molded portions easily.

Abstract: A front door weather strip is annular as a whole, and has one mold molding section fixed to the corner section which is the rear side upper section of a door frame, and one extrusion molding section. The extrusion molding section includes a base section and a hollow sealing section. A seal lip is integral with the part of the extrusion molding section which corresponds to the upper section of the door frame. The length of the seal lip is gradually changed at a front upper corner part. During extrusion molding, the part of the extrusion molding section which corresponds to a front lower corner part is formed as follows: That is, the sealing section is larger in height than the other part. At least the part of the extrusion molding section which corresponds to the lower section is smaller in wall thickness of the vehicle outside base end part of the sealing section than the part which corresponds to the upper section.
