Abstract: Methods and devices are provided for selectively allowing light to pass through a substantially transparent substrate or blocking the light, at least to some degree. Some embodiments provide a plurality of reflective vanes that can be positioned in at least two positions. According to some such implementations, when the vanes are in an open position, incident light is allowed to pass through the window. The light may reflect from two or more vanes before passing through the window. When a sufficient voltage is applied between vane electrodes and other electrodes, the vanes are pulled down, reflecting back at least some of the incident light. The voltage may be controlled according to detected temperature, ambient light intensity, etc.

Abstract: The present invention is a two way communication system for employees who work in an open office environment, and lack the privacy of an office door. The system performs the same functions as a real door, allowing the user to “alert” fellow employees to their availability status without being interrupted throughout the day. In addition, it allows the user to record interoffice memos, and allows other employees to record messages for the user when he or she is not at the desk. This valuable tool is a great asset for people in open office environments, which greatly increases the quality of work product by limiting interruptions.

Abstract: A sash lock mechanism includes a handle, a housing adapted to be supported by a sash window assembly, the housing having an opening receiving the handle therethrough, and a rotor coupled to the handle. The rotor is moveable between at least a locked position and an unlocked position by movement of the handle. The sash lock mechanism also includes a locking mechanism that contains a pivotable member pivotably connected to the housing. The pivotable member is pivotable between a first position and a second position. When the rotor is in the locked position and the pivotable member is in the first position, the pivotable member confronts the rotor to prevent movement of the rotor to the unlocked position. When the pivotable member is in the second position, the pivotable member does not prevent movement of the rotor.

Abstract: Disclosed is a two part hook and loop weatherstripping system in which one portion, such as the hook portion that is attached to a window frame and another portion such as the loop portion that is attached to the hook portion and includes a flexible material that may be compressible to provide a seal between a window sash and the window frame. The removable portion can be easily removed and cleaned or replaced with a new portion. Different thicknesses of the removable portion of the hook and loop weatherstripping allows various size gaps between a window frame and a sash to be easily filled. The use of two part hook and loop components incorporating a weatherstripping system provides for the components to be utilized in such a way so as to provide an overlap joint at all corners that restricts linear shrinkage and eliminates the holes that commonly materialize at the corners from shrinkage of single part weatherstripping systems.
