  • Patent number: 11584010
Abstract: Techniques for corrugate and chipboard knocked-down case inspection and assembly are described herein. In one example, the disclosed techniques include a method to inspect and assemble a knocked-down case. In the example, a measurement of at least one aspect of the knocked-down case is obtained. A difference is determined between the obtained measurement and a standard measurement and/or a range of standard measurements. Programming of a case-handling tool is executed that is based at least in part on the determined difference. In an example, the programming is configured to adjust for and/or compensate for differences between the actual knocked-down case and a knocked-down case that is within a specification. A case-handling tool is operated responsive to the executed programming to at least partially erect the knocked-down case into an erected case.

  • Patent number: 11479008
Abstract: Discrete items are conveyed, preferably by a vacuum conveyor, in a machine direction toward a pair of rotating blades. A first intended target of folding, for instance a right portion of front and back panels of a diaper, travels up a ramp, raising the level of the intended target. A rotating blade passes under the intended target of folding, and folds the right portion of front and back panels of a diaper over. If desired, a second intended target of folding, for instance a left portion of front and back panels of a diaper, travels up a second ramp, raising the level of the intended target. A rotating blade passes under the second intended target of folding, and folds the left portion of front and back panels of a diaper over. The folded diaper then exits the folding system and travels downstream for further processing as desired.

  • Patent number: 10967557
Abstract: A paint roller manufacturing system and method are described. In an embodiment, an inner strip of material and an outer strip of material are wound about a mandrel in offset relation. The inner strip of material and the outer strip of material each comprise material that results in a final paint roller which shrinks by less than 2.5 percent of the final paint roller axial length, or which has shrinkage that varies by less +/?0.1%, upon hardening and setting. An adhesive is applied to at least a portion of the outer strip as it is wound about the mandrel. A length of fabric is wound about at least the outer strip to form a paint roller tube, and compression is applied to the paint roller tube while advancing the paint roller tube in a direction parallel to the mandrel. A precision measuring or sensing device is used to control a cutting device causing the cutting device to cut the advancing paint roller tube into pre-selected lengths prior to the paint roller tube hardening and setting.

Abstract: A nonconforming product removing unit is disposed between a folding unit and a counter ejector of a box making machine, and includes a sort-out unit that conveys a corrugated board box whose joint is judged to be good by a judging unit to the counter ejector, and on the other hand discharges a corrugated board box whose joint is judged to be bad by the judging unit. Accordingly, only the conforming corrugated board box can be conveyed to the counter ejector. Therefore, the nonconforming board box can be removed easily, without requiring complicated work of taking out the nonconforming corrugated board box from among corrugated board boxes sorted into a predetermined number of batches by the counter ejector, and re-sorting only the conforming corrugated board boxes into a predetermined number of batches.

  • Patent number: 8323162
Abstract: An inclined position of a product, leaving a nip between two folding rollers of a longitudinal folding machine, is corrected. The product is pressed into the nip between the rollers by a folding blade that can be moved up and down relative to a folding table. The product thus leaves the nip between the rollers and is transported in a direction of transport. The time of passage of a leading or a trailing edge of a product is detected at two measurement points which are spaced apart from each other and which are arranged transversely to the direction of transport of the product to be folded. Based on the times of passage that are detected by the two measurement points, and on commutation and/or data processing techniques, a deviation between a time offset detected during the passage of the corresponding product edge at the two measurement points, and a nominal time offset, is determined and analyzed.

  • Patent number: 5059164
Abstract: In a spiral tube winder, the plies going to the winding mechanism are monitored to make sure that no ply is broken. If any ply breaks, the machine is stopped so that the broken ply does not become entangled in the apparatus, especially in the glue applying portion of the apparatus. The ply break detection system is automatically activated for each ply lane that is in use so that plies can be added while the machine is in operation, with the result that the ply break protection for each such added ply comes on automatically after that ply has been added.

  • Patent number: 5030188
Abstract: In apparatus for forming cut lengths of tube by winding one or more strips of material into a continuously advancing spiral wound tube and periodically cutting off lengths of the tube, lengths of tube containing splices present in the strips are rejected at a rejection point downstream from the cut-off point by monitoring the strips for splices prior to winding, waiting until enough strip has passed the splice monitoring point to extend from the splice monitoring point to the rejection point, and rejecting the length of tube at the rejection point when that amount of strip has passed the splice monitoring point.

Abstract: Apparatus for removing defective knocked down carton blanks, from a carton erecting machine. In one embodiment opposed sets of tractors for clamping the selected unit and driving it from the conveyor line with moving tractive belts. A sensing device detects carton blanks to be ejected by determining if they can be erected by the machine. Non-conforming blanks are returned to an unerected condition and a control device activated by the sensing device controls activation of the ejecting mechanism to quickly and automatically eject the defective carton blank.

  • Patent number: 4984409
Abstract: Conventionally, large-volume carton packs are constructed in such a way that two mutually opposite walls (bottom wall 19 and cover wall 20) are formed from folding tabs (15 to 18) overlapping one another. The folding tabs are connected to one another by adhesive bonding. Furthermore, an adhesive strip (51) can be affixed in the region of a parting line (25) between the outer tabs (17, 18) butting against one another. The connection between the folding tabs or the arrangement of the adhesive strip (51) may be defective. Thus, according to the invention, in order to check the carton pack (10) in terms of a correct construction, pressure is exerted on the walls (bottom wall 19 and cover wall 20) formed from folding tabs, in such a way that any inadequate connections result in a springing open of the respective walls. The change in shape of the carton pack (10) is detected by sensors, especially by photosensors (87, 88).

  • Patent number: 4666422
Abstract: Apparatus for aligning a wicketer frame with an edge of a tubular or semitubular plastic web. The positions of the edges of the web are sensed and the wicketer frame is transversely displaced in response to and in dependence on the sensed deviation of the edges of the web from an initial position. The wicketer frame is provided with at least one transverse rail, which is supported on rollers or sliding surfaces of an underlying carrying frame to permit transverse movement of the wicketer frame relative to the web. The wicketer frame is connected by a beam to an end frame, which carries the downstream end of a stacking conveyor and is supported on a base frame. The end frame is longitudinally displaceable and is rotatable through a small angle relative to the base frame. A rack and pinion arrangement is provided for transversely moving the wicketer frame.

Abstract: In a bag-making macine where a base is formed on an end of a tube section by folding and successively folded tube sections are conveyed transversely at intervals with the main part of each tube section flattened and its folded base perpendicular thereto, photocells are provided to scan the leading and trailing folded edges of each base. The photocells and a light source are disposed on opposite sides of each base and an arcuate disc rotatable about its center of curvature at a circumferential speed equal to the conveying speed of the tube sections bridges the intervals between the bases of successive tube sections so that the photocells remain unexposed unless the bases are deformed.

Abstract: Bag sections that pass through a machine are scanned as to their spatial positions within the machine. The measuring points have been arranged at distances corresponding to the stroke of the machine, so that it is possible to intervene in the operation of the machine when a deviation from a given nominal position occurs, before a stopper formation occurs. Each bag section that comes into the machine triggers a subsequent comparison of nominal and actual values in a manner such that the signals of defects that are generated by the lack of work pieces, are neutralized.
