  • Patent number: 8323162
Abstract: An inclined position of a product, leaving a nip between two folding rollers of a longitudinal folding machine, is corrected. The product is pressed into the nip between the rollers by a folding blade that can be moved up and down relative to a folding table. The product thus leaves the nip between the rollers and is transported in a direction of transport. The time of passage of a leading or a trailing edge of a product is detected at two measurement points which are spaced apart from each other and which are arranged transversely to the direction of transport of the product to be folded. Based on the times of passage that are detected by the two measurement points, and on commutation and/or data processing techniques, a deviation between a time offset detected during the passage of the corresponding product edge at the two measurement points, and a nominal time offset, is determined and analyzed.

  • Publication number: 20120035032
Abstract: A longitudinal folding machine comprises a folding blade and a folding table. The folding blade is driven with a cyclical frequency, in a synchronized manner relative to one or more elements of a web-processing machine, which is located upstream of the longitudinal folding machine, or relative to a flow of incoming products. The entry of a leading edge of products is detected at a first measurement point on the delivery route of the folding table. A relative phase position between the movement of the folding blade and the phase position of the elements mounted upstream and/or the phase position of the flow of products is deliberately modified by the use of one of a control and a regulation device in order to adjust a contact point of the folding blade with the products to be folded.

  • Patent number: 6547707
Abstract: In some process contexts it is desirable to maintain a constant strain on the web instead of constant tension. The novel system measures the caliper of the web material and adjusts the tension to achieve the desired constant strain. The caliper may be measured by monitoring the radius of the expiring web reel in connection with the angular position of the reel. The web caliper is input into a control scheme that includes an algorithm determining the appropriate tension to applied to the web in accordance with its caliper. The control scheme outputs a variable force command to a dynamic dancer which adjusts the web tension and thus sets the constant web strain. The variable force may be injected via an air cylinder, a hydraulic cylinder, a spring with a dynamic ground, or an electromagnetically driven actuator.

Abstract: The present invention features a high-speed registration system for the manufacture of plastic bags. The system has a registration apparatus that senses the leading and trailing edge of each sinusoidally-shaped tie pattern from a continuous web. • Patent number: 5092832
Abstract: A system and method for creasing continuous web at predetermined locations. A continuous web material is biased in the first direction. The web is then pinched in a second direction. This pinching is accomplished by drawing a bend in the web into the pinching element, and, following the pinching, the web including a crease is driven out of the pinching element. This section of web containing a crease is then output from the system. A second pinching may also be performed subsequent to the first pinching. • Patent number: 5041070
Abstract: A bag machine includes a programmed logic controller intermittently actuating a web feed draw roll motor for controlled web feed during the inoperative period of a cycled seal bar. The controller has separate inputs for the seal bar periods and a web length and establishes a control program of a preferred motion profile, with acceleration and deceleration of the fixed rolls to match the bag length to the available time using the total time available, with acceleration to a maximum and deceleration to reference, with or without a constant speed period. The bag length and time is monitored each machine cycle to calculate the next motion profile and permit changes in the bag length without machine shut-down. A programmed registered mode of control responds to a web mark spacing relative to the seal bar. In the registered mode, a photoscanner detects the mark during a constant speed web feed period prior to the end of the available time and actuates the web feed accordingly.

A full overlap container normally has the end flaps of double thickness to withstand high top-to-bottom compression loads. This container has double thickness in both the end flaps and the laminated side walls. The machine is designed so that a first blank is transported on a main conveyor to a retractable stop located at a first combining section. Adhesive is applied to one of the side panels during transport. A second blank is then transported on a cross-conveyor to a second stop. This blank is lifted over the stop, and one side panel is positioned over the adhesive covered panel of the first blank. Pressure rolls then come into play to combine the panels. Assembly can now be completed on conventional equipment, such as folder-gluer, or may be done on an extended portion of the machine.
