Patent number: 7399264Abstract: A process for producing high pressure tubing from austenitic stainless steels. The process entails passing a continuous austenitic stainless steel strip through pre-weld rolls enclosed in a forming housing to produce a continuous tubular shape having opposing edges separated by a longitudinal gap. While the gap is maintained with a seam guide and a liquid-free gas mixture of an inert gas and a gaseous flux is directed at the gap and into an interior of the tubular shape, the tubular shape is caused to pass through a high frequency induction coil to cause heating of the opposing edges of the tubular shape. Pressure is then applied to the tubular shape with weld rolls to force the opposing edges together and form a continuous tubing having a continuous butt weld joint. The weld joint is then quenched with an inert gas without the assistance of a liquid coolant.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2005Date of Patent: July 15, 2008Assignee: Mill Masters, Inc.Inventors: William E. Patent number: 6589147Abstract: A former whose wing component incorporates periodic openings, a tube component (that may, or may not, incorporate periodic openings) and a base component (that is shaped to conform substantially to the former's tube geometry) is described. Such a former, may be significantly less heavy than prior art formers (for a given size package) while simultaneously providing improved performance and durability. A former assembly that includes the former, a cross-bar, a top-plate and spacers is also described. Each of the cross-bar, top-plate and spacers may use aluminum and/or incorporate hollowed pockets to further reduce the assemblies weight.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 2001Date of Patent: July 8, 2003Assignee: J & F Business, Inc.Inventors: John Dominguez, Jr., John Dominguez, III, Ben Dominguez, Kenneth Dishon

Patent number: 4834822Abstract: Of two edges (14, 16) to be joined together of a multilayer foil, the inner edge (16) is obliquely trimmed in the longitudinal direction prior to the pressing together in such a way that the layer (6) located remote from the surfaces (10, 12) to be pressed together protrudes beyond the other layers. If the two layers (14, 16) are pressed together during the welding operation by means of two tool elements, not shown, then the inner layer (6) of the inner edge (16) overflows so as to form one uninterrupted layer with the inner layer (6) of the outer edge (14). When the foil is used as packaging material, in particular as a tubular liner for a packaging tube, it is assured that the product to be packaged will come into contact only with the inner layer (6), so that an undesirable reaction with one of the other layers is avoided.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1987Date of Patent: May 30, 1989Assignee: KMK Karl Magerle Lizenz AGInventor: Henry Ueberegger

Patent number: 4717374Abstract: A composite container includes a high barrier inner liner member including a metal layer of vacuum-deposited aluminum parallel with and spaced from the longitudinal edge of a synthetic plastic base thereby to define a first web that is helically wound in edge-overlapping relation such that one longitudinal edge of the metal strip overlaps the other longitudinal edge of the metal strip by a given distance (d). The overlapping edges of the first web are hermetically joined by a heat-sealable bond between an adhesive layer covering the metal strip and the adjacent face of the first web, and a compatible heat-sealable layer on the opposite face of the web.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 1986Date of Patent: January 5, 1988Assignee: Sonoco Products CompanyInventor: Thomas C. Patent number: 4685989Abstract: A process and an apparatus for producing a welded can body having an organic coated welded part are provided in which the exposed metal portion on the inside of the welded part of the can body and its vicinity is covered with a tape of an organic resin alone or a mixture of an organic resin with an inorganic material such as a pigment, a metal, etc. The resin tape is entirely supported by a mandrel to be disposed inside the can body, and pressed against the inside surface of the welded part and its vicinity. By heating the welded part of the can body, the resin tape is heated during pressing.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1985Date of Patent: August 11, 1987Assignee: Toyo Seikan Kaisha LimitedInventors: Kenji Matsuno, Hisakazu Yasumuro, Kazuo Taira, Tsuneo Imatani, Makoto Toyoshima
