  • Patent number: 5807222
Abstract: According to the invention, there is provided a bag making machine including feeding means for feeding two or more superposed layers of plastic film longitudinally thereof and intermittently for a length, the layers of plastic film having void area means such as notch hole means, and a cutter for cutting the layers of plastic film crossly thereof along a line predetermined with respect to the void area means whenever feeding the layers of plastic film are temporarily stopped, to thereby successively make plastic bags. A detector is disposed near the cutter for recognizing the contour of the void area means as an image data immediately before or when the layers of plastic film are temporarily stopped. A computer is connected to the detector for calculating the difference between the position of the predetermined line of the layers and the position of the cutting edge means of the cutter in accordance with the image data of the detector.

  • Patent number: 5735785
Abstract: Apparatus and method for locating a portion of a continuous web of material having graphics printed thereon at a correct location in a cutting and creasing machine for forming carton blanks by comparing the location of a section of the graphics on a portion of the continuous web with a preset location of where the section of graphics should be and generating a control signal for moving the portion in vector and parallel paths to the correct location in the cutting and creasing machine. The continuous web is moved by applying a force on opposite sides of the center line of the continuous web along a linear line wherein the linear lines are located so that the included angle between the linear lines in the direction of movement of the continuous web is less than 180 degrees. Also, the linear lines can be located so that the included angle between each linear line and the center line of the continuous web in the direction of movement of the continuous web is less than 90 degrees.

Abstract: A thermoplastic bag making machine having a sealing bar assembly driven by two separate linear drive units is initialized following full shutdown by traversing the linear drive units at constant velocity against mechanical stops, and then resetting position error signals and traversing the bar a known distance to a home position. This procedure is also useful for single linear drive units, as well as multiple linear drive units that must be coordinated for position and motion. In the case of multiple drive units, procedure for offsetting travel distances off the stop for non-uniformity in stop positions is utilized.

  • Patent number: 5540647
Abstract: The folding apparatus for automatic folding of flatwork includes a longitudinal folder and a transverse folder following thereafter. In the transverse folder there are two laundry conveyors disposed one behind the other in the conveying direction of a flatwork article arriving from the longitudinal folder. They are spaced apart by a gap stretching essentially across the entire width of the transverse folder. To make a first transverse fold using a folding blade or air blast, a flatwork article to be transversely folded is led into the gap. Prior to this step, the thickness of the flatwork article to be folded is entered into a data entry device or is determined using a measuring device. The width of the gap is adjustable, depending upon the particular thickness of the flatwork article. In this manner optimal conveying along the gap is achieved of a flatwork article having a first transverse fold, independent of thickness.

  • Patent number: 5372569
Abstract: A method and apparatus for accurately positioning a plurality of slotted boxes which are in a flat collapsed state, in a magazine of a box erector. The box erector handles and sets up the boxes into a position having an open top for subsequently receiving items therein while moving bottom closure flaps into a generally closed position. A laser unit is mounted adjacent a box supply loading magazine of the box erector and projects a beam of light against a box placed in the magazine. The magazine then is adjusted until the fixed light beam strikes a predetermined location on the box, preferably the end of a slot formed between adjacent major and minor flaps of the box. This light beam strike location correlates with a location at an unfold station of the erector which receives a bottom corner of the box.

  • Patent number: 4924884
Abstract: A continuous filter tow is advanced through a combined wrapping and condensing station by an endless belt, and the thickness of the belt decreases as a result of wear. The resistance which the condensed tow offers to the flow of air is measured by a pneumatic detector at the aforementioned station, and the accuracy of such measurement is affected by decreasing thickness of the belt as a result of increasing rate of escape of testing fluid along the belt. Therefore, the thickness of the belt is monitored and signals which are generated to denote the thickness of the belt are used to correct signals which are generated to denote the resistance to the flow of air. The correction involves modifying the signals denoting the resistance to the flow of air to denote a more pronounced resistance proportionally with decreasing thickness of the belt.
