  • Patent number: 9802354
Abstract: A sheet processing apparatus includes a rotating member, a switching unit, and a pressing unit. The rotating member is rotatable and has a facing portion that faces a fold section of a sheet. The rotating member rotates so as to switch the facing portion to another facing portion. Each facing portion is provided with a protrusion. A set position of the protrusion in an axial direction varies from facing portion to facing portion. The switching unit rotates the rotating member so as to switch the facing portion that faces the fold section. The pressing unit presses the protrusion of the facing portion against the fold section.

Abstract: For manufacturing books having different sizes and comprising a plurality of text pages constituting a book block, a web of material having a given width is sequentially printed in a digital printing station. The printed web of material is then provided either with one weakening line extending parallel to the longitudinal direction of the web of material or with two weakening lines arranged spaced apart and extending parallel to the longitudinal direction of the web of material. Thereafter the printed web of material is transversely cut to produce individual text sheets which are provided with either one weakening line or two weakening lines. These text sheets are then longitudinally folded along the either one weakening line or in sequence along each of the two weakening lines. The folded text sheets belonging to a particular book block are stacked to a stack. The stacks are either temporarily stored for a later binding process or directly supplied to a binding station.

Abstract: A stitch flap cutting block is mountable to a cutting head of a board blank cutting machine, along with a slotting knife. A sheet of board passed between the cutting head and an anvil head is cut to form a blank for a box or the like. The cutting block comprises a steel body with a cylindrical barrel holding a cylindrical spring block, to which is mounted a blade holder carrying an elongate blade. The blade moves within a transverse slot across the body and is deflectable into the body and may rock about a midpoint of the slot. Impact forces are reduced, cleaner cuts are produced, and re-setting of the blade is required much less often. Next, the first portion is secured to the second portion by the adhesive to form a secured section. The longitudinal slit is thereafter positioned between the secured section and the fold line.

  • Patent number: 5636559
Abstract: A resilient-scrap ejector is provided for a cutting die. The scrap ejector includes an elongated body made of a resilient material. The elongated body includes a longitudinally-extending web. A plurality of lugs extend from opposite sides of the web and are separated by notches. The notches provide void spaces which allow for deformation for the elongated body when the elongated body is subjected to compressive forces. The scrap ejector is located in a cavity or recess formed in the cutting die for ejecting and stripping scrap severed from the blank. By providing displacement zones or voids, the height of the scrap ejector can be increased without compressing the material beyond the limits of its resiliency.

  • Patent number: 5605527
Abstract: A waste stripping station for a machine for die-cutting plate-like workpieces includes a perforated board which is positioned between an upper movable tool and a lower movable tool for supporting a plate-like workpiece carried into the station by grippers. Waste bits of the workpiece are pinched between pins or elements of the upper and lower stripping tools and are carried vertically downward through perforations in the board. In order to provide clearance for the grippers, the perforated board is mounted to pivot around an upstream edge in order that its downstream edge may be lifted from a position allowing passage of the grippers to a position slightly lifting the plate-like workpiece.

  • Patent number: 5533955
Abstract: An apparatus for forming loose fill packing material which comprises a shredder device operative to convert sheets of corrugated cardboard into elongated, thin paper strips which are discharged onto a perforated conveyor movable between a loading position at the shredder device and a discharge position where the strips are emptied into a collection hopper. A suction device is mounted beneath the conveyor, downstream from the shredder device, which is operative to apply a suction to the cardboard strips to remove dirt, dust and other foreign materials therefrom, and then the cleaned paper strips are transmitted along an angled sifter plate having a plurality of openings which are sized to allow undesired, short strips of paper to pass therethrough for deposit into a waste hopper. A spraying device is located at the sifter plate to deposit a liquid material on the paper strips having microbicidal, sanitizing, insect repellant, disinfectant and deodorizing properties.

  • Patent number: 5496251
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of manufacturing shell-shaped packages, in particular flower sleeves, in which two superposed bands of synthetic material are supplied and machined through die cutting, in such a manner that at least one edge of each package, defining the wide opening, is formed along an ornamental line, whereafter the material bands are cut in transverse direction into separate package portions, the discrete package portions being joined together at the cut edges so as to form the package, wherein, during the die cutting of the longitudinal edges of the material bands, both material bands are perforated through and through in one die cutting operation so as to form suspension portions joined to the package portions via perforated lines extending along an ornamental contour, the suspension portion, formed by the perforation, of one of the two material bands being removed. The invention further relates to an apparatus for carrying out the method, and to the package obtained by the method.
