Abstract: A sensor device for sensing wetness in an absorbent article worn by a subject includes one or more sensing elements; and a coupling for communicating sensor signals between the one or more sensing elements and a receiver. A change in environmental parameter causes a change in electrical behaviour of at least one of the sensing elements, which behaviour can be analysed to determine occurrence of a wetness event in the absorbent article. The changes in electrical behaviour are communicated in the sensor signals to the receiver. The analysis may be by the receiver or a processor in communication with the receiver. Ideally, the sensing elements include capacitive elements and preferably, resonance circuits.

Abstract: Generally, a pre-fastened adjustable pant-like disposable absorbent undergarment including a fully severed front body panel and method of manufacturing is disclosed. The method includes the steps of providing a moving web for use as a body panel and first forming a first cut on the moving web at a first cutting station to define a leading portion of the moving web and a trailing portion of the moving web connected at the first cut. The moving web then passes through an attachment assembly station to bridge the connected leading portion and trailing portion together with a fastener assembly that extends over the first cut. Finally, the moving web is then passed through a second cutting station to provide a second cut through both the moving web and fastener assembly and intersecting with the first cut to completely separate the leading portion and trailing portion of the moving web.

Abstract: A poster printing method divides a large format poster image into a plurality of image sections and prints them on individual sheets of paper, where some or all of the sheets are perforated sheets with perforation lines along the edges. Unavoidable white margins on the printed sheets can be removed by tearing off strips of the sheet along the perforation lines. The distance of the perforated lines from the edge is determined by a minimum white margin value and a maximum image shift error value for a typical small printer. In addition, the image sections are overprinted, i.e., the image printed on each individual sheet contains an overprinted area around the image section to ensure image overlap of neighboring sheets. The individual sheets are assembled into a poster by removing the perforated portions of some sheets and aligning images on neighboring sheets along the perforation lines.

A number of mini-coupons (36) are detachably cut into each of the card halves (12, 14) through an inner layer of card stock (24, 30). The card assembly (10) is characterized by a living hinge (40) interconnecting the first card half (12) with the second card half (14) to define a dual coupon card assembly (10) wherein the first card half (12) may be folded upon the second card half (14). The subject invention provides a structurally sound coupon card assembly (10) with numerous mini-coupons (36) wherein the coupon card assembly (10) may be folded to form a relatively compact card preferably the size of a standard credit card.

Abstract: The source materials are supplied in continuous strips of cardboard situated initially in separated planes laterally offset from each other. Longitudinal grooves are made along the strips, dividing them into longitudinal bands. The strips are overlapped and glued under pressure to join them together. Once glued they are cut into pieces. The pieces constitute the folded dividers, made up of sections and folded and glued sections which form the union between the sections of each strip. Optionally, narrower sections are glued directly onto the sides of a box, or to sheets glued in their turn to the sides of the box. The upper edges of the divider can be straight or present recesses. The divider formed by strips glued by the sections which make up sections at right angles to the strips is folded and unfolded at the same time as the box into which it is fitted.

Abstract: When blanks for producing (cigarette) packs are made in the region of the packaging machine itself, especially by being severed from a web of material (12), the blank production must be matched to the performance of the packaging machine. For severing blanks (10, 11) from a web of material (12) having stampings, perforations, etc. drawing rollers (25, 26) and conveying rollers (33, 34), on the one hand, and tearing rollers (27, 28 and 35, 36) running at a higher speed, on the other hand are used. The blanks (10, 11) are torn off as a result of the difference in the conveying speed. In the simultaneous processing of two blanks (10, 11), units (23) comprising two blanks (10, 11) are first servered from the web of material (12) and these are then divided into individual blanks (10, 11) which are conveyed further, especially fed to a folding turret (20).

  • Patent number: 4785696
Abstract: A method and apparatus for presenting a serial succession of cut sheet portions to a work station. The sheet portions are cut from a continuous webbing which is processed by a cutting station and a web-breaking station. The cutting station partially severs the web downstream of its leading free end so as to define a first sheet portion between that free end and the point of cutting, with the first sheet portion connected to the web by one or more tab connectors. The webbing is then advanced downstream to the tab-breaking station where the tabs are broken to free the first sheet portion for independent movement further downstream. A vacuum belt engages the webbing, and particularly the downstream edge adjacent the partial severing, with a vacuum belt. The vacuum belt engages the webbing by bridging the partially-severed cut portion, so as not to interfere with the downstream tab-breaking apparatus.

Abstract: Adhesive pouch connecting rings with radially extending gripping portions are formed and stacked in angularly offset relation on a plurality of ostomy faceplates in a highly automated fashion. Sets of rings are die cut from a continuous adhesive coated sheet. Each set includes a plurality of spaced, identically oriented rings, in an arcuate pattern across the sheet. The sheet is intermittently advanced to bring the sets, one at a time, into alignment with faceplates located on a round platform. The platform is indexed to move the faceplates stepwise through a path coincident with the pattern of the ring sets. Each time the platform is indexed, a set of rings is removed from the sheet and the rings are placed on the respective faceplates, each in proper angular relation with the previous rings. Faceplates with a full complement of rings are removed from the platform.

Abstract: Filter plugs of double unit length are fed sideways into successive flutes of a rotating drum which moves successive plugs past a rotary knife so that each plug yields two coaxial sections of unit length. Each flute contains two spaced apart mechanical stops at the opposite sides of the cutting plane and each flute has two suction ports which are overlapped by the corresponding stops. The ports draw streams of air which attract the respective sections immediately upon completion of the cutting step so that the sections move away from each other and against the respective stops. Plugs of a different second type are thereupon inserted into the gaps between successive coaxial sections. The cutting station is overlapped by a stationary shroud having an opening through which the knife extends with sufficient clearance to allow streams of atmospheric air to flow into that flute which is located at the cutting station and into the respective suction ports.

  • Patent number: 4256024
Abstract: Opposed strips of heat-sealable thermoplastic strips are advanced along a path past a pouch-forming and incomplete cut-out zone, a filling zone and a pouch-sealing and cut-off zone. Each incompletely cut-out pouch has a spout whose open end extends to opposed marginal bands of the strips. Nozzles are projected into the spouts at the filling zone. A tight fit of the nozzles in the spouts prevents escape of fluid around the nozzles during the filling operation. The marginal bands of the strips are gripped adjacent each spout to enable the nozzles to be pushed into the spouts. The filled pouches settle onto a conveyor while the marginal bands hold the open ends of the spouts at a higher level, preventing discharge of fluid from the spouts until the filled pouches are sealed. Sufficient height of the spout opening above the mean level of the filled body of each pouch tends to form a discharge-blocking pinch across the spout, and a still-higher level of the spout opening prevents the discharge of fluid by gravity.
