Refolding Or Unfolding Patents (Class 493/409)
  • Patent number: 4767394
Abstract: A method and apparatus for making axial-flow filters wherein a sectorial-shaped sheet of filter material having corrugations therein parallel to the curved ends thereof is made from a flat sheet of filter material, and thereafter the corrugated sheet is made into an annulus to obtain the final product. Initially, an edge portion of a flat sheet of filter material is attached to a sectorial-shaped mold, having a mold surface defined by curved ridges and valleys parallel to the curved ends of the mold, so that the sheet is slanted up away from the mold surface from the smaller curved end of the mold. Thereafter a set of curved forming blades is moved down toward the mold to engage the sheet and to fold it successively and consecutively across the ridges of the mold and beneath the edges of the blades into the valleys of the mold to corrugate the sheet.

  • Patent number: 4738286
Abstract: A device which may be conveniently utilized to collect oil drained from an engine crankcase includes a fluid impermeable plastic bag and a rigid drain stand. The drain stand is designed to hold the bag below the oil drain in a manner facilitating flow of oil into the bag while simultaneously preventing larger objects, such as the drain plug, from also falling into the bag. This drain stand is further preferably constructed of a single sheet of corrugated fiberboard material which may be shipped or sold in a flattened or collapsed configuration, and then unfolded and assembled with the bag by the end user. A unique locking mechanism is provided for joining portions of the corrugated fiberboard sheet without adhesives to form a strong, rigid structure. After the oil has been completely drained into the bag, the bag can be removed from the drain stand, sealed, and then disposed of in an ecologically sound and safe manner.

  • Patent number: 4678456
Abstract: A carton unfolding machine reliably unfolds folded carton blanks. The blanks are continuously propelled horizontally by stripper fingers along a first support with the flaps extending transversely to the direction of motion. Blocks in the path of the flaps raise the trailing flaps slightly relative to the plane of the blank sides and leading flaps. The blanks pass spring plates that enter slits between the trailing and leading upper flaps to support the trailing upper flaps. The first support terminates under the spring plates, so that the blank is supported only at the trailing upper flaps by the spring plates and by the stripper fingers. The unsupported blank leading edge tips due to gravity, thus slightly unfolding the blank. Continued motion by the stripper fingers pushes the blank out of contact with the second support, and the leading edge falls to a carrier.

  • Patent number: 4629445
Abstract: A case making machine is provided with an apparatus for folding rear portion of a feeding case blank and the apparatus comprises a claw mechanism for folding the rear portion of the case blank along the folding line. The claw mechanism is rotated at an angular speed which is changed by a cam mechanism operated by a driving source through a drive shaft and a link mechanism. An electromagnetic valve is further provided for controlling the operation of the claw mechanism. The valve is actuated by an electric circuit such that the electromagnetic valve can be operated in synchrony with the advancing speed of the blank. This result is achieved by increasing pulse numbers inputted into the circuit to account for the rise time interval of the electromagnetic valve.

  • Patent number: 4597752
Abstract: A paper stacker for receiving a continuous web having prearranged longitudinally spaced lateral crease lines from a feed arrangement and laying the web down in a folded fashion at the lines to form a vertical stack on a stationary surface characterized by a piling device, guides for receiving the paper from the feed arrangement and guiding the web of paper to the piling device and a lifting device for elevating the piling device as the height of the stack increases. The guides are preferably formed by a pair of guide grids which face one another to provide a guide channel with each of the guide grids having individual guide members being positioned side-by-side and extending in a direction of movement of the web, each of the guide grids have an upper portion and a lower portion which are telescopically displaceable inside one another with the lower portion being connected to the pile device to move therewith and the upper portion being displaceably mounted on guide rods attached to the feed arrangement.

  • Patent number: 4558581
Abstract: A strip (10) of delicate foil is advanced longitudinally along a substantially flat path such as along a platen (104) for printing patterns of lead clusters (12) in photoresist on the foil. A margin (28) of strip (10) is formed into a guiding member such as a standing ridge (98), leaving a residue portion (29) in a desirably flat condition. Ridge (98) has a convenient reference edge (102) and a structural angle is formed by ridge (98) with adjacent foil portions. Such angle is sufficiently strong that advancing strip (10) receives no unacceptable deformation as the reference edge (102) is contacted such as to a reference wall (100) for guidance. Strip (10) is biased so the reference edge (102) maintains contact with guiding apparatus so located that the strip follows the desired path. For example, a flat member (122) is biased downward upon the residue portions (29) of strip (10) and the flat path while a side of member (122) is biased against ridge (98) and the reference wall (100).

  • Patent number: 4530688
Abstract: The machine for unfolding folded file folders has a sucker member rotatable about a horizontal axis, wherein there is a suction inlet that opens to a sucker surface facing away from that axis. Folded file folders are stacked in a magazine with their surfaces substantially upright and their folds lowermost and parallel to said axis. A front folder in the magazine has its front surface tangent to a rear portion of the orbit of the sucker surface, where that surface moves upward, to be attached to the sucker member by suction and thus lifted, opened and moved forward into nip rollers near the top of that orbit. At each revolution of the sucker member the magazine is advanced forward through a distance equal to the thickness of a folded folder.

  • Patent number: 4513559
Abstract: A reciprocative apparatus individually folds a plurality of thin, limp, sheet-type articles, such as sandwich bags, and loads them into a carton. The apparatus includes a delivery assembly for sequentially transferring the bags from a conveyor belt to a folding station. A pivotally operated swatter is employed in the delivery assembly which includes a swatter driving mechanism which gradually decelerates the swatter near the end of its forward movement to minimize article wrinkling.

  • Patent number: 4504259
Abstract: The linear conveying route of a first folding material conveying device (1), oriented toward the roll nip (6) of a pair of folding rolls (7, 8), and the conveying route of a second folding material conveying device (11), the conveying direction (16, 17) of which is reversible, converge in an acute angle toward the folding roll nip (6). A deflection guide means guides, in its operative position (20), the portion (43) of the folding material (43, 44) leading in the conveying direction (9) of the first conveying device (1) from the conveying route end of this conveying device (1) to the conveying route of the second conveying device (11), whereupon both conveying devices (1 and 11) each continue transporting a portion of the folding material (43, 44) until the location (A) to be folded reaches a certain position at the deflection guide means (20).

  • Patent number: 4338084
Abstract: Before piling or stacking the bags, the intermediate part (1) of the bag lying between the reinforced or thickened top and/or bottom part (2,3) is folded so as to create a layer having a thickness corresponding to the thickness of the top and/or bottom parts (2,3) where these are folded flat against the bag or sack. Consequently, the bags can be stacked in great numbers without upsetting the stack or distorting the shape of it.

  • Patent number: RE30508
Abstract: An apparatus for straightening cell-forming partitions within a carton or the like is provided by a mandrel in a partition straightening station having cones disposed thereon which project towards the open top of the carton. The mandrel is moved towards the carton and the cones enter the carton; at least one of the cones is longer than the other cones and is adapted to enter an inner cell formed by the partition; the shorter cones then enter the outermost cells formed by the partition. The partitions are thus aligned to receive products in the cells formed thereby.
