Filter Patents (Class 493/941)
  • Patent number: 5120296
Abstract: A tape like material including synthetic resin for a filter element is bent into a corrugated pattern while the material is passed between pairs of forming and cutting rollers. Since pairs of cutters are provided within the rollers and since guide plates are provided around the rollers, the material is held abutting the rollers even when the material is cut by the cutters. The material is then conveyed within a reducing drum. The pitch of the corrugated portions formed on the material is reduced and the material is formed into a semicircular shape within the reducing drum. After passed the reducing drum, the material is transferred to a forming path.

  • Patent number: 5078872
Abstract: A disposable, combined strainer and pour spout integrates into one apparatus the combination of means for pouring and straining utilizing a simple device that may be readily attached to or integrated with a disposable bucket or tub for holding paints or other liquids. A pour spout member of the invention is preferably made of a simple die cut paper shape and a strainer member of the present invention is preferably a die cut triangular mesh to which a paper band is affixed at one edge. The strainer mesh is secured to the pour spout by stitching, or gluing along two sides. The band side of the strainer mesh is left free to move away from the spout as the device is rolled into a partial cylindrical or conical section when attached to the bucket. The combined assembly may be attached to a disposable bucket utilizing a pre-applied tape band, stitching, or may be built integrally into the bucket.

  • Patent number: 4976677
Abstract: Process for the production of filters whose active filtering part is made up of a folded filter material web, preferably made from paper, which folded web is delimited in the process by side edges at which the folds terminate, and end edges at which a first or last fold is located, so that in this way filter units (49) are formed. The filter units (49) are produced in an automatized process in which the filter material web is creased and pushed together to form the folds. The spacings between the folds are maintained constant by means of a screw element with threads pushing down between the folds and forming spacing elements between these. The screw element is rotataed during forward movement of the folded web. Glue-coated strips are pressed onto the said side edges of the web, so that the ends of the folds are covered over by the strips.

  • Patent number: 4940500
Abstract: A filter medium forming system for forming a filter medium of the type wherein pleats radially outwardly extends in which sides of the pleats are alternately bonded at the inner and outer peripheral sides to allow fluid to be filtered flows generally along the length of the pleats. The filter medium forming system is comprised of a scoring device for forming linear depressions (score lines) on the opposite side surfaces of an elongate sheet-type filter medium. The scoring device is followed by an adhesive applying device for applying adhesive onto the opposite side surfaces of the filter medium at the edge sections. The adhesive applying device is followed by a pleating device for pleating the filter medium along the linear depressions to form a pleated filter medium having a plurality of pleats each having two sides contiguous through each linear depression.

  • Patent number: 4938739
Abstract: An apparatus for folding a sheet along concentric circular arcs comprises two series of chain driven comb-shaped folding elements. The folding elements of each series are spaced apart by a distance which is approximately twice the distance between the intended fold locations on the sheet, with the elements of one series being arranged to act against one side of the sheet and the elements of the other series being arranged to act against the other side of the sheet. The folding elements of one series are offset relative to those of the other series a distance equalling the distance between adjacent fold locations on the sheet. The elements of one series increasingly overlap the elements of the other series along the length of the sheet, whereby a plurality of folds are simultaneously being formed progressively as the sheet is fed between the two series of folding elements.

  • Patent number: 4906265
Abstract: For installing a dry material paper filter on the filter cage of an electric vacuum cleaner, a disk of porous paper filtering material or of cloth type fabric is laid over the panel enclosing the bottom of the filter cage and a ring is pressed up over the paper or cloth filter and over the panel. As the ring is drawn up over the filter cage, it folds and presses the paper or cloth filter around the filter cage. At the top of the filter cage, the ring secures the filter to the cage. An additional filtering sleeve may be disposed around the filter cage before the filter is installed over the cage and over the sleeve with the attachment ring. The sleeve may be of foam or other wet material filtering material. The filter installed with the ring is of dry filtering material, like paper or cloth. A marking or disk at the center of the filter helps a user place the filter over the filter cage before the ring is used to fold the filter into place.

  • Patent number: 4834700
Abstract: A ring-shaped corrugated filter element blank having radially alternate peak and valley folds is placed on a first mold having as many first concentric projections as the number of the peak folds of the ring-shaped blank and as many first concentric grooves as the number of the valley folds of the ring-shaped blank, with the peak folds fitted respectively over the first projections and the valley folds fitted respectively in the first grooves. Then, the ring-shaped blank is pressed between the first mold and a second mold, the second mold having second projections lying along concentric lines fitting respectively in the first grooves with the valley folds received therein, and second concentric grooves receiving respectively the first projections with the peak folds fitted thereover. The ring-shaped blank is heated while it is being pressed between the first and second molds, thereby forming a ring-shaped filter element. Thereafter, the ring-shaped filter element is cooled.

  • Patent number: 4798575
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the manufacture of filters in which a filter material in the form of a continuous length (5) is folded to form pleats (39). The pleats are attached to their ends along the lateral edges of the filter material and are sealed in this way one against the other so as to form a flow path for the medium which is to be filtered into the spaces between the pleats on one side of the filter material, through the material, and out into the spaces between the pleats on the other side of the filter material. During the process of attaching the ends of the pleats to one another, the pleats are kept separated from one another by a pre-determined distance between their outer folded edges by means of a device (18) provided with a number of combs (20) which extend inside the pleats and hold them in this way at the aforementioned pre-determined distance from one another.

  • Patent number: 4718884
Abstract: Apparatus and method for forming an axial flow filter element from a fan or sectorial shaped sheet having parallel curved ends, straight sides converging at an angle less than 180.degree. and a plurality of curved ridges and valleys extending between the sides parallel to the curved ends. Holding wedges are inserted into the valleys in the upper side of the sheet while the latter is supported on a table. The pitch between the holding wedges is then reduced uniformly to reduce the radial length of the sheet. The sheet is then partially rounded into a semi-circular shape to increase the central angle of the sectorial shape sheet to as much as 180.degree. by forcing the wider convex end of the reduced sheet toward a circular post centrally engaging the midpoint of the smaller concave end of the sheet.

  • Patent number: 4718883
Abstract: A process for manufacturing articles of filter paper in which the wet strength of the regions of weak points resulting from mechanical working is increased by the application of a wet strengthener of cross-linked cationic polyalkylenimines. For this purpose, the wet strengthener is applied only to the regions of the weak points after the filter paper has been manufactured. Seams or edge reinforcements are formed by relief printing before the application of the wet strengthener and a heat treatment takes place after application of the thermoplastic wet strengthener to cause the wet strengthener to harden. The application of the wet strengthener is effected in measured doses so that the legally prescribed maximum amounts to be added are not exceeded.
