Patent number: 5182031Abstract: The device comprises a closed chamber (1) equipped with an inlet pipe (3) for the aerated liquid, an outlet pipe (4) for the deaerated liquid, and an air evacuation pipe (5); and a rotor having a shaft extending into the chamber. The shaft carries means (7) for centrifugation of the liquid and means (8,9,10) for intensive agitation of the centrifuged liquid. The device works according to the following process: continuously, the liquid is introduced into the closed chamber and it is vigorously centrifuged there in with the aid of mechanical means (7) and simultaneously subjected to intensive agitation with the aid of second mechanical means (8,9,10).The released air gathers freely at the center of the chamber whence it is evacuated, as the deaereated liquid is evacuated through the outlet pipe.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 1990Date of Patent: January 26, 1993Assignee: E & M Lamort (Societe Anonyme)Inventor: Jean-Pierre Lamort

Patent number: 5084189Abstract: An axial flow-type pump for separating immiscible fluids having different specific gravities and a discharge manifold fluid connected to the fluid pump for drawing of the fluid having the heavier specific gravity. The fluid pump employs a rotatable impeller mechanism having a hollow core and a decreasing axial pitch in the direction of fluid flow. The fluid interface between the pump and the discharge manifold is adjustable, so that the discharge of the fluid having the heavier specific gravity can be adjusted. The fluids are introduced into the inlet end of the rotatable impeller to produce a high velocity swirling action in the fluids and a low pressure area along the longitudinal axis of the flow line, to generate a high centrifugal force as the fluids move axially and cause the fluid having the heavier specific gravity to migrate to the perimeter. The discharge manifold is then used to draw off the fluid having a heavier specific gravity.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 1990Date of Patent: January 28, 1992Assignee: Richter Systems, Inc.Inventor: Harvey E. Patent number: 4826608Abstract: In known worm centrifuges comprising a solid bowl and a sieve bowl, a cleaning and predewatering of the solids/liquid mixture occurs in the solid bowl when dewatering solids/liquid mixtures and an after-dewatering of the solids occurs in the following sieve bowl. In general, a relatively good cleaning and dewatering effect is achieved with such previously-known worm centrifuges comprising a solid bowl. According to the invention, the after-dewatering effect in the sieve bowl can be quite substantially increased in that the conveyor worm is provided with agitator elements in the region of the sieve bowl, the agitator elements immersing into the solids layer. As a result thereof, in particularly, a circulation of the solids layer is achieved in the sieve bowl in a very advantageous manner and, as a result thereof, the after-dewatering of the solids before discharge from the worm centrifuge is very substantially improved.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 1987Date of Patent: May 2, 1989Assignee: Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz AktiengesellschaftInventor: Michael Kopper

Patent number: 4654022Abstract: Screw conveyor of solid bowl centrifuge has its flight member modified at the bowl dry beach area by welding sheet metal, for example, to trailing surfaces of the flight forming a chamber for rinse liquid driven thereinto. Leading or working surfaces of the flight are provided with a plurality of series of orifices per 360.degree. revolution thereof, each series comprising spaced orifices extending inwardly from a distal portion thereof and preferentially angled therethrough. Overflow passageways with cooperating baffles are provided. Thus, rinse liquid passes onto solids pile surfaces through orifices immediately inwardly thereof as well as through orifices submerged by the solids for passage of rinse liquid thereinto.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1986Date of Patent: March 31, 1987Assignee: Pennwalt CorporationInventor: Leonard Shapiro

Patent number: 4449967Abstract: The blade of a helical screw conveyor of centrifuge apparatus is improved to reduce the amount of torque required in operating the apparatus as well as to produce discharged solids drier than the solids discharged using a conventional blade; the improvement provides that the distal end of the leading surface of the blade at or adjacent at least the trunco-conical end of the centrifuge bowl have a generally arcuate configuration concave in the direction of the solids discharge port such that the more distal blade portions peel the separated solids material from the bowl wall with minimum torque requirements, while the less distal arcuate portions tumble the solids to reduce the moisture content. Typically, the blade's arcuate leading surface is formed by add-on, wear-resistant members attached to a backing plate which in turn is mounted on the leading surface of the blade.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 1982Date of Patent: May 22, 1984Assignee: Pennwalt CorporationInventor: John W. Patent number: 4378906Abstract: A jacketed centrifuge for exchanging material between liquids, usually a heavier liquid containing suspended solids and a lighter liquid, including a housing in which there is a drum mounted for rotation, and a conveyor worm mounted for rotation coaxially therewith. Inlet and outlet means are provided for introducing a relatively light liquid into the drum, as well as introducing the heavier liquid containing the solids suspended therein.
