  • Publication number: 20080263773
Abstract: A support for a trapeze or other structure (such as a sling) that depends from a rail, said rail extending over a bed (usually a hospital bed) or other patient-support device. A carriage (which might also be called a trolley) is provided for selective movement—in small increments—along a conventional rail (having an octagonal or circular cross section) from one end to the other. Alternatively, the carriage is held static, where it provides a stable “anchor” for a trapeze, so that a person might safely pull downward on the trapeze. In one embodiment the static condition is initiated by the action of simply pulling downward on the trapeze, causing the carriage to bear against the rail with what may best be described as a “gripping” action. Switching between free movement along the rail and braked movement can be automatic, involving only a downwardly directed force on the carriage, which force may be supplied by an attending nurse or the patient.

Abstract: A stretcher includes an elongated frame having an upper frame and a lower frame. A patient-support deck is supported by the upper frame and includes a patient-support surface. Casters are mounted to the lower frame and a pair of push bars are mounted to the upper frame. Each push bar includes a handle post that can be gripped by a caregiver to push the stretcher. Each push bar is mounted to the upper frame for movement between a push position having the handle post extending above the patient-support surface and a down-out-of-the-way position having a portion of the push bar located underneath the upper frame. The stretcher also includes a pair of latches coupled to the upper frame to pivot about respective axes between lock positions engaging the push bars to lock the push bars in the push positions and release positions allowing the push bars to move between respective push positions and down-out-of-the-way positions.

Abstract: A rise assist apparatus comprising a handrail in the form of a convoluted section attached to a vertical pole, and stabilized by a bed frame attachment member and a floor contacting base frame. Alternatively, the rise assist apparatus may be wall mounted, being stabilized by a system of mounted wall brackets. The rise assist apparatus further includes an upper curved, horizontal leveraging handle, which extends from the pole-like support structure. Specifically, the rise assist apparatus allows the user to build momentum by pushing off the upper hand grip, and allows the user to control the momentum by regaining balance, and readjusting posture, by gripping the lower handrail member. Additionally, the user can use the curved grip with one hand, while simultaneously reaching for the handrail during the rising movement thereby allowing the user to support himself or herself as they rise out of bed.
