Patent number: 6418578Abstract: A protective guard is disclosed that is particularly adapted for use with a bed frame. The guard is adapted to fit over an existing leg of the bed frame and has a specially shaped opening in the upper surface into which the leg of the bed frame can fit. A caster assembly has an upstanding stem that passes the existing leg in the leg structure and holds the protective guard in position affixed to the bed frame. The protective guard is shaped in a variety of configurations and surface markings so as to be adapted to fit the décor of the room in which it is used. In addition, the overall shape of the protective guard covers the leg of the bed frame to provide protection against injury from the inadvertent bumping of the bed frame leg by persons walking or standing near the bed frame. In one embodiment, the protective guard is an integrated shield and a caster assembly that is affixed to the leg of the bed frame and provides a protective plastic covering for the caster assembly as well as the leg.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 2000Date of Patent: July 16, 2002Assignee: Finger Lakes Intellectual Property, LLCInventors: Richard Polevoy, Howard Scott Ryan, Paul Eric Carlson

Patent number: 5611094Abstract: The invention provides a wall stop or spacer which is mounted on the hospital bed and impinges on the skirting of the wall near the floor should the bed be pushed towards the wall with resulting impact. Also, because the engagement is usually at right angles to the wall, the spacer has a width greater than the distance between the studs in the wall so that the load will be distributed across the studs. Further, because the impact is on the skirting, the impact takes place at one of the strongest pans of the wall where the wall plate and studs meet and the skirting passes over these pans to further reinforce the structure. The wall stop can be placed in a deployed position for engagement with the skirting or manually moved into a stored position under the bed to permit an attendant to walk behind the bed when the bed is moved from room to room.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 1995Date of Patent: March 18, 1997Assignee: M.C. Patent number: 5566407Abstract: An infant's crib for newborn infants and infants beyond in age is made, whereby the infant will always have available breathing air, providing the infant with ample oxygen, and preventing the buildup of carbon dioxide exhausted by the infant, as this carbon dioxide is carried away by air circulating under the infant's crib. The infant is supported on permeable materials which in turn are supported on a crib frame. The permeable materials are positioned at a spaced distance over a supporting structure upon which portions of the crib frame are positioned. Preferably, two layers of permeable materials are used. The bottom permeable layer is strong enough to support the infant and has many openings per square inch. The top permeable layer, lying on the bottom permeable layer, is used to improve the comfort of the infant, and there are fewer openings per square inch. Both the top and bottom permeable layers are readily removed for cleaning.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1995Date of Patent: October 22, 1996Inventor: William W. Lien

Patent number: 5542135Abstract: A self-retaining bumper pad for a bed is fabricated from elongated body of a soft, flexible material and includes a retention portion which fits between a side wall of the bed and an edge of the mattress and functions to hold the bumper pad in place. The pad further includes a shield portion which projects from the retention portion and overlies the side wall of the bed. The bumper pad cushions the side wall and also prevents a person who is in the bed from pushing an arm or a leg through the side wall of the bed.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 1995Date of Patent: August 6, 1996Assignee: Safe Surroundings, Inc.Inventors: Aaron Ozrovitz, Rosario Badalamenti

Patent number: 5481772Abstract: A bed rail cover for removable placement over a bed side rail comprises two spaced, opposed side panels joined along their side and top edges to a border strip, the panels and border strip being composed of an elastomeric material. A flap of elastomeric material attaches the cover to the bed, preventing bed occupants from placing their appendages through the gap between the mattress and the rail. Use of elastomeric material allows the cover to accommodate changes in the relative positions of the mattress and rails and between rail segments when the mattress position is adjusted.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 1994Date of Patent: January 9, 1996Inventors: William D. Patent number: 5450641Abstract: A guard for a bed rail includesa first generally rectangular flat inflatable member having opposite elongated sides and opposite ends perpendicular to the first member sides and first and second generally rectangular non-inflatable flat elongated like strips. Each strip is much narrower than the first member. Each strip extends along a corresponding side of the first member and is secured thereto. A second generally rectangular flat inflatable member having opposite elongated sides and opposite ends perpendicular to the second member sides, extends in the same direction as the first member. One side of the second member is disposed adjacent, parallel and secured to one of the first and second strips.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 1994Date of Patent: September 19, 1995Assignee: Connecticut Artcraft CorpInventor: Mark W. Patent number: 5423093Abstract: A protective inflatable edge guard which is provided to extend around the deck of a swimming pool adjacent the edge of the deck at the swimming pool and along edges of structural components or members associated with the pool. The edge guard thereby provides protection to swimmers and others using the swimming pool by precluding hard contact with said edges. The protective edge guard is comprised of a plurality of inflatable tubes which are sized and shaped to extend around the edges of the swimming pool deck and structural components thereof. Moreover, the individual tubes are endwise abuttable to form a generally peripherally extending edge liner. A member is provided on the inflatable tubes to hold the endwise abutted inflatable tubes along the edge of the swimming pool deck.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 1992Date of Patent: June 13, 1995Inventor: Nancy Hall-Vandis
