Nested, Twin And Stacked Patents (Class 5/8)
  • Patent number: 5572751
Abstract: A bunk bed system in which separate beds are positionable as free standing beds, as regular bunk beds, or as a perpendicular bunk bed system comprises a headboard extender that attaches to a side of a lower bed and a footboard extender incorporated into a bookcase. The headboard and footboard extenders each comprise two extender posts that engage the upper bed support posts and support the upper bed perpendicularly over the lower bed. One extender post of the headboard extender is attached to a headboard support post of the lower bed by means of rectangular end caps that fit over the upper and lower ends of both legs and hold them together. Locking pins extend between the extender posts and the lower ends of the legs of the upper bed to hold the stacked legs in alignment. Another extender post of the headboard extension is attached to the lower bed frame by means of a hook that is tightened over the bed frame.

  • Patent number: 5233707
Abstract: A modular furniture assembly including and a lower bed that are selectively positionable between a stacked position and an unstacked position. The upper and lower beds include a series of supports that form mating pairs to support the beds in the stacked position. Each bed support of the upper bed include a bottom end with a bore extending therethrough. A pin is retainably mounted within each bore and is slidable between an extended position and a retracted position. Supports of the bottom bed each have a connector bore that extends through a top end of each of the bed supports. Split sleeves are fixably attachable within the bores of the supports for the upper and lower beds to form a stop that retains the pins in the bores. When placed in a stacked position, the pins extend into the bores of the supports for the lower beds to link the mating support pairs together. The pins fully retract into the bores of the bed supports when the beds are positioned in the unstacked position.

  • Patent number: 5181286
Abstract: A bed arrangement is provided for shipboard stateroom use. Fixedly positioned, spaced-apart, small single beds, having a leg space therebetween for daytime use as facing sofas, optionally can be converted to a large common bed, of a size larger in width than even a conventional king-size bed. This option allows booking flexibility in that the same stateroom can at different times be booked as providing separate, single beds, or optionally as providing a large common bed, comparable to or greater in size than that of a king-size bed. The option is effected by providing a readily assembleable and readily removable center bed section in the space between the normally spaced-apart separate beds. The invention thereby provides a means for increasing stateroom revenue in response to demand for large, shared bedding arrangements, when such demand occurs.

  • Patent number: 5163968
Abstract: Hardware for securing a headboard or footboard to a bed frame includes a socket adapted to be secured to the bed frame, a configured member adjustably disposed within the socket and supporting a mounting plate. The configured member includes an offset end to which the mounting plate is secured. The configured member is provided in mirror image versions permitting a headboard to be positioned at various heights above or at the floor. Axial adjustment of the configured member in the socket adapts the hardware to an adjustable, mechanical bed having multiple pivotally interconnected sections. A swing-apart dual king bracket assembly includes a first, generally U-shaped hinge plate having a base attachable to the mounting bracket of the headboard assembly. A second hinge plate is connected to the first hinge plate by a pivot pin. The second hinge plate may be secured to a headboard or to another bracket assembly mounted on an adjacent bed frame.
