Abstract: A playyard system with a handle and wheels comprising a floor separable from a playyard and formed of a plurality of similarly shaped rigid rectangular segments. The floor is adapted to be placed around a collapsed playyard to form a generally rectilinear configuration with an upper end and a lower end. A handle is secured to one of the segments of the floor adjacent to the upper end. The handle includes a gripping portion at the upper extent and a generally rigid intermediate wire formed with parallel vertical extents and an enlarged lower extent. The handle also has associated therewith apertured brackets secured to the floor for allowing for the sliding of the wire within the brackets to lower the handle toward the floor when in the stowed orientation and to raise the handle from the floor when in the elevated orientation for transportation.

Abstract: The invention relates to a portable positioning and mobility device for developmentally and/or physically challenged individuals comprising an enclosed treatment compartment adapted to permit a caregiver to provide therapeutic treatment to infants and young children therein without danger of unintended displacement of the patient; frame means surrounding the treatment compartment and supporting same, adapted to optionally provide rolling motion of the device in substantially any direction in a horizontal plane, and a pad covering at least the base of the treatment compartment, the pad having on at least one surface thereof a plurality of highly colorful, high-contrast, infant-stimulating designs.

Abstract: A structure for attachment to an infant crib for supporting objects to be viewed by an infant in the crib. The structure includes a rectangular crystal-clear flexible sheet sized to fit over a portion of the infant crib. The four edges of the sheet are each folded over and sewn to the sheet to form an elongated tube. A dowel rod somewhat longer than the tube is inserted through each of the four tubular edges of the sheet. Each of the adjacent ends of two dowel rods are inserted into a cubical block. Each of the four cubical blocks supports a length of cord for securing the structure to the infant crib.

Abstract: A portable crib for a sofa including a front section comprised of an inner gate and an outer gate. The inner gate is slidably received within the outer gate. The device includes a pair of side sections. Each of the side sections is comprised of an inner gate and an outer gate. The inner gate is slidably received within the outer gate. Each outer gate is secured to the inner gate and the outer gate of the front section. A sofa securement mechanism is hingedly coupled with a lower distal end of each of the inner gate and the outer gate of the front section.

Abstract: A device for blowing small volumes of air across a mattress in a crib to prevent the accumulation of undesirable gases includes a pump, blower or fan, an elongated conduit connected to the pump, blower or fan and positioned adjacent the top surface of the mattress. The conduit has a plurality of longitudinally spaced perforations therein so as to provide a plurality of directed air flows across the top surface of the mattress. The conduit can be rested on the top surface of the mattress, but can also be hung from a vertically adjustable side rail by a vertically extensible telescoping mounting bracket. Dual conduits can be connected to the pump, blower or fan in parallel and positioned at either side of the crib.

Abstract: An infant's crib for newborn infants and infants beyond in age is made, whereby the infant will always have available breathing air, providing the infant with ample oxygen, and preventing the buildup of carbon dioxide exhausted by the infant, as this carbon dioxide is carried away by air circulating under the infant's crib. The infant is supported on permeable materials which in turn are supported on a crib frame. The permeable materials are positioned at a spaced distance over a supporting structure upon which portions of the crib frame are positioned. Preferably, two layers of permeable materials are used. The bottom permeable layer is strong enough to support the infant and has many openings per square inch. The top permeable layer, lying on the bottom permeable layer, is used to improve the comfort of the infant, and there are fewer openings per square inch. Both the top and bottom permeable layers are readily removed for cleaning.

Abstract: Playpen and crib construction which utilizes a high modulus fiber-reinforced plastic matrix tubing in the frame, said tubing being made of lightweight, high modulus fiber-reinforced plastic matrix composite tubing having a weight of 0.25 pounds or less per lineal foot and wherein said plastic matrix is a thermoplastic resin or thermoset plastic resin with a minimum modulus of 250,000 psi; a minimum tensile strength of 6,000 psi; and a glass transition temperature of at least 50.degree. C. and wherein said high modulus fiber reinforcement is selected from the group consisting of carbon fibers, aramid fibers, glass fibers, polyolefin fibers, boron fibers and mixtures thereof.

Abstract: A collapsible playyard for an infant includes a frame subassembly including at least two frame members which are joined together in substantially perpendicular relation. Each of the frame members includes two frame member sections which are joined by a knuckle joint which only permits pivoting between the frame member sections thereof in a single direction. The knuckle joints are oriented so that collapsing one frame member rotates the adjacent frame member causing the knuckle joint thereof to be automatically moved to a collapsible position.

Abstract: An adapter for suspending an air permeable sleeping surface from the top rails of a baby crib. The adapter has hooks engaging the rails, which hooks support a rectangular, permimetric frame. A flexible mesh fabric sleeping surface is removably attached to the frame. The hooks hold the sleeping surface well above and out of contact with the mattress of the crib, so that a child lying on his or her abdomen will not suffocate due to contact with the mattress, its cover, or a pillow. This situation could arise given the less yielding and more obstructing nature of a mattress and associated blankets and the like. In a preferred embodiment, the sleeping surface has reinforcing straps for opposing excessive deformation due to weight of the child.

Abstract: A bassinet and playyard combination comprising a playyard and a bassinet, the playyard having a lower frame member and an upper frame member defining an opening therebetween. Vertically extending rails between the upper and lower frame members with corner pieces join the corners of the upper frame member with the upper ends of the vertical rails and with a cylindrical well formed vertically in each corner piece. Further provided is a bassinet. The bassinet has a plurality of vertically extending cylindrical posts with lower ends positionable within the wells and with rails defining a supplemental frame adjacent to the upper ends of the posts. The bassinet includes a fabric liner with a central area positioned within and supported by the supplemental frame with vertical panels extending upwardly and around the rails of the supplemental frame and with a rigid platform associated with the fabric member.

Abstract: A self-retaining bumper pad for a bed is fabricated from elongated body of a soft, flexible material and includes a retention portion which fits between a side wall of the bed and an edge of the mattress and functions to hold the bumper pad in place. The pad further includes a shield portion which projects from the retention portion and overlies the side wall of the bed. The bumper pad cushions the side wall and also prevents a person who is in the bed from pushing an arm or a leg through the side wall of the bed.

Abstract: A mesh net supporting framework for a hockey goal which is readily collapsed for transportation or storage has elongated tubular members hinged together at their respective ends and locking mechanisms at those hinges for securing the tubular members in mutually perpendicular configurations. The locking mechanisms may comprise an elbow with one of the tubular members and a short tube extending therefrom perpendicular to one another. There is an abutment on the short tube, and a cylindrical cuff surrounds the other of the tubular members, with that cuff having a semicylindrical extension for engaging the abutment. The other tubular member also has a semicylindrical end portion for engaging the abutment.

Abstract: A crib comprising a blow molded headboard panel vertically positioned and constituting the head end of the crib. A blow molded footboard panel is vertically positioned and constitutes the foot end of the crib with the footboard being essentially parallel with the headboard and with a space therebetween. A pair of blow molded side panels are provided with each of the side panels vertically positioned and spaced in parallel relationship with respect to each other and with the ends of the side panels removably coupled with respect to the ends of the headboard and footboard to form a generally box-like configuration.

Abstract: A method is provided for connecting a spindle to a tube. The method includes the step of punching a hole in an exterior wall of a tube to create a perimeter edge bordering the tube. The perimeter has a first pre-determined shape. The method further includes the step of press-fitting an end portion of a spindle having a second pre-determined shape different than the first pre-determined shape into the hole to establish a tight fit between the spindle and the tube retaining the spindle in coupled relation in the tube.

Abstract: A crib having a headboard, a foot board, and opposite side gates surrounding a horizontal mattress support platform adjustably attached to the headboard and foot board and being selectively positionable at various levels. One of the side gates is removable to facilitate placement of the child crib alongside a parents' bed such that the mattresses on the bed and the crib are disposed in adjacent, co-planar relation. An apron attached to the mattress support platform is extendable for insertion in sandwiched relation between the mattress and a mattress support of the parents' bed, effectively interconnecting the crib and bed while preventing objects such as baby bottles from falling therebetween. A wheel assembly and brake structure associated therewith may be added so that movement of the crib may be selectively accomplished while inadvertent movement or travel of the crib is prevented.

Abstract: A baby crib with pull-out mattress (10) that is designed with a mattress frame (20) and mattress (22) that can be pulled outwardly away from the front perimeter of the crib. With the mattress (22) completely exposed, the mattress covering(s) can be easily and quickly removed and changed. This feature aids in convenience and ease as well as preventing back aches that frequently occur from bending over the crib's front rail to change the mattress covering(s). To allow the mattress frame (20) and mattress (22) to be slid in and out, they are attached to a first and second horizontal slide assembly (26). The crib (10) design also includes a retractable leg assembly (30) that is normally placed in a retracted position underneath the mattress frame (20). However, when the horizontal slide assembly (26) is slid forwardly, the retractable leg assembly (30) automatically causes a retractable leg (30A) to pivot downward to support the extended mattress frame (20).

Abstract: A bumper pad (3) for a crib (4) having vertical support posts (10) and a mattress (20) includes flexible padding (26) extending around the interior boundary of the crib to form a cushioned bumper along the periphery of the mattress and a plastic canvas stiffener (32) extending from the underside of the flexible padding. The stiffener fits tightly into the space between the mattress and the crib to provide support for the padding and to prevent the child from inserting his/her limbs between the bumper and the mattress. A cover (34) encases the padding and the stiffener and tie strings (42) secure the cover to the vertical support posts of the crib. Alternatively, the stiffener need not be fixed to the padding; in this case, the cover has an opening (50) to allow removal of the stiffener for washing or other purposes.

Abstract: A portable beach towel with a built-in hidden pouch for storing valuables is disclosed. The towel comprises an elongated rectangular fabric portion having top and bottom surfaces, top and bottom end edges, and side edges. A pair of elastic loops and a carrying strap are sewn onto the bottom surface near the bottom edge. A pocket is formed by folding the top end edge over the top surface, thereby defining an enclosure space for holding an elongated rod-shaped pillow made from a soft, compliant material. An access aperture between the top end edge and the top surface opens into the pouch, which is sewn into the pocket. The aperture can be closed with a zipper or other suitable type of closure. In use, with the towel resting upon the ground, the access aperture is normally hidden from view from passers by.

Abstract: An elevated floorboard frame for a playpen and baby bed includes a frame body made of a pair of parallel lengthwise rods and a pair of parallel lateral rods combined pivotally with connectors. Each of lengthwise and the lateral rod has two pieces pivotally connected with a connector so that the frame body may be collapsible to a minimum size. Each of the four support bands is connected with each of the U-shaped connectors at each corner of the frame body. Each of the four hanging hooks is connected with the top of each band to hook on an upper lateral rod of a playpen and baby bed to hang the elevated floorboard frame on the playpen.

Abstract: An inflatable crib permits the safe, comfortable transport of an infant, while the crib is inflated, and requires minimal storage space when deflated. Carrying straps provide load bearing support to the cradle base on which a child is carried. An inflatable mattress adds to the child's comfort. A protective covering shields the child from sun, elements, and insects. The carrying straps have form retaining, self supporting first and second cross members extending above the crib and are adapted to releasable support the protective covering.

Abstract: A device for attachment to a bed frame for the receipt of articles therein having a receptacle with a closed end and an open end, a door fastened to said open end, a lock attached to the door so as to fix a position of the door with respect to the receptacle, a clamp attached to a forward end of the receptacle so as to affix the receptacle to the bed frame, and a support connected to a back end of the receptacle so as to support the receptacle above a surface. The clamp is a mounting bracket affixed by a bolt to the receptacle. An area between the receptacle and the mounting bracket engages corresponding surfaces of the bed frame. The receptacle has a top surface, a base, a pair of sides, and a pair of ends extending upwardly relative to the base. The support is an extendible leg fastened to a rear end of the receptacle so as to support the receptacle in a generally level condition.

Abstract: An inflatable crib includes a plurality of inflatable vertical support columns and a plurality of inflatable sidewall panels, each of the sidewall panels laterally connecting an adjacent pair of the support columns. Optionally, the crib additionally includes an inflatable bottom panel disposed adjacent to the bottom of the support columns and the sidewall panels and extending therebetween, and/or an inflatable peripheral panel disposed adjacent to the bottom of each of the support columns and the sidewall panels and extending laterally outwardly therefrom to serve as an anti-tipover bumper.

Abstract: A bumper pad for receipt inside an infant crib and attachment to vertical slats and vertical corner posts of the crib and around the interior perimeter of the crib. The bumper pad designed to protect babies, infants and small children when using the crib. The bumper pad includes an elongated interior side and an oppositely disposed exterior side. An upper portion and a lower portion of the interior and exterior sides are joined together to form a void therebetween. The void is used for receiving padding material therein. The interior and exterior sides are made of a soft fabric material. The pad includes a first end which is releasably secured to a second end of the pad forming a closed loop. A plurality of flaps are incorporated into the exterior side of the pad. The flaps are disposed in a spaced relationship to each other around the exterior side of the pad.

Abstract: The present invention provides a novel baby crib having means to mount a mattress platform at a variety of selected heights above the floor and a gate stop adjustable between an operative and an inoperative orientation. In the operative orientation, the gate stop prevents the gate from being lowered to its normally lowest position. In the inoperative orientation, the gate stop does not interfere with gate travel. The invention in a first embodiment provides means so that when the mattress is in the maximum height position, the gate stop must be in the operative orientation, thus preventing the gate from being lowered beyond the mattress height position.

Abstract: A cover of screen or mesh for preventing domestic animals, such as cats, from entering a crib. The cover can be utilized while a child is in the crib, if the child is not able to pull itself up to a standing position, to prevent an animal from joining the child in the crib and can be utilized when the crib is unoccupied to prevent an animal from entering the crib and spreading fur, dirt or otherwise disturbing the crib. The cover is designed to prevent entry, and does not restrain the child within the crib. The device utilizes interengaging hook-and-loop type securing strips, such as VELCRO, to secure the cover to place on the crib, and is designed to support the weight of the animals to be excluded so that the cover will not collapse into the crib. The cover incorporates an opening for passage of a crib accessory, such as a mobile, which remains in place during entry and exit of the child and during removal or replacement of the cover.

Abstract: A frame structure for a baby's crib, comprising a plurality of channels bars at the four sides thereof at the bottom as well as at the top, a plurality of mounting bars around the four sides thereof at the bottom as well as at the top and respectively fastened inside said channel bars, a plurality of locking caps and connectors at the four corners for securing said channel bars and said mounting bars in position, and a plurality of balusters vertically disposed around the four sides thereof and retained between those mounting bars at the top and those mounting bars at the bottom. The mounting bars each have a plurality of egg-shaped blind holes and a plurality of egg-shaped notched holes made thereon at the top and alternatively arranged in a line into which the balusters are fastened and prohibited from rotary motion.

Abstract: A dropside crib that can be set up and taken down without tools, the crib including a lengthwise stabilizer bar for the dropside side thereof, the stabilizer bar having a pair of vertically aligned spaced hooks at each end, the hooks extending toward the person operating the crib, and a pair of hook receiving slots on the corner posts of the crib in position to accept the hooks when the bar is manually correctly aligned, and having entered the hooks in the slots, the operator merely pushes down on the bar to removably secure the parts, the hooks being tapered.

Abstract: A baby crib comprising two symmetrical side frames and two grilles transversely connected between said two symmetrical side frames at two opposite ends. The bed floor members each have an axle at one end and positioning bolts at the opposite end for positioning bed floor members into circular recesses and positioning holes according to the desired angle of inclination. Sound detectors and humidity sensors are provided to detect discomfort situations and thus trigger alarms and/or comforting devices.

Abstract: The invention involves a novel playpen structure. The playpen looks like a conventional playpen except that it has at least one removable side portion that can be used as a security gate. The removable side (or enclosed structure) portion has both a connecting structure for connecting it to the remainder of the enclosed structure and a securing structure which is used to secure the removable side portion to a door frame when used as a security gate.

Abstract: A crib structure sized to support an infant therein in a prone position and specifically structured to include a first and a second crib side normally disposed in spaced apart parallel relation to one another when the assembly is in a crib configuration but detachable from end portions of the crib and securable along with designed corner post pairs to auxiliary bedding support structure which is structured and dimensioned after its attachment to respective crib sides to support the normal sized adult and be assembled in a substantially conventional bed configuration.This is a continuation of application Ser. No. 568,649, filed Jan. 6, 1984which in turn is a continuation-in-part application of presently pending U.S. application Ser. No. 408,028 filed on Aug. 13, 1982, both of which are now abandoned.

Abstract: A crib dropside is provided which includes a double-acting latch mechanism for releasing the dropside from a locked position. The dropside includes an upper rail having a groove extending within the front surface thereof. The grove extends for the entire length of the rail. A pair of spring-loaded locking pins are mounted to each end of the rail. A cable extends within the groove and is secured at each end to the locking pins, the center of the cable being secured to a slide member within the latch mechanism. The dropside is slidably mounted to a pair of tracks, the tracks including openings for receiving the locking pins. Actuation of the latch mechanism causes the pins to be withdrawn from the openings. Additional openings are provided within the tracks for allowing a mattress support and crib stabilizer bars to be mounted thereto.

Abstract: A crib apparatus is arranged wherein the crib includes a crib rear wall, a forward crib wall, a headboard wall, and a foot board wall orthogonally mounted relative to a top floor, wherein the top floor is spaced from a bottom floor defining a mattress cavity therebetween, wherein the mattress cavity includes an entrance opening, with a door coextensively and pivotally mounted relative to the entrance opening. A mattress is slidably mounted within a mattress support plate, with the mattress support plate including a plurality of pivotal legs extending downwardly relative from the mattress plate for support of the mattress for cleaning and maintenance of the mattress during use. Modifications of the invention includes heated support cavities mounted within the cylindrical cavities for support of infant food and fluid nursing bottle members.

Abstract: An improved infant crib includes a top frame, and a base panel. The crib side walls each comprise a pair of hinged side panels which are hinged to each other, to the base panel, and to the top frame so as to collapse inwardly drawing the base and top frame together. The crib includes two end panels which are hinged to the top frame so as to rotate inwardly from a vertical position to a horizontal position on the same plane as the top frame. When the end panels are in a vertical position, the side panels are locked in place forming a rigid structure. Extendable legs slide downward from channels within the end panels to support the crib above the floor. The resulting structure is strong when assembled, yet is easily and quickly collapsible to form a compact package suitable for stacking storage.

Abstract: A portable bassinet made of cardboard which has outer, canopy-housing and an inner box or bassinet-proper for selected insertions into the outer box. One of the four side walls of the inner box is connected to the rest of the inner box only along its lower horizontal edge surface, with the rest of this side wall being free, in order to provide a pivotal safety wall. The safety wall is pivoted to a downward position when the inner box is used as a bassinet, with an infant placed therein, whereby the inner box is prevent from being fully inserted into the outer main box or canopy-housing, in order to prevent accidental suffocation. Handles are provided for aiding in the carrying of the assembly. A first handle is provided on a side wall surface of the inner box which cooperates with a cutout or opening in the corresponding side wall of the outer box.

Abstract: A fitted fabric sheet for a mattress for a crib with vertical rails, the mattress having a top plane surface and vertical sides, has a peripheral edge coinciding with the vertical sides of the mattress, a fabric crib bumper liner with top and bottom edges, and e.g., ties or loops for securing the top edge of the bumper liner to the vertical crib rails. The bottom edge of the liner is secured along its entire length to the peripheral edge of the sheet.

Abstract: A structure for supporting a mattress in a crib so that it is easily, manually, vertically adjustable and comprising a bracket at each corner of the crib inside the crib, the brackets each having a track or guide for it to slide on and a socket for the reception of a part of the mattress support in an easily detachable manner. Each bracket has a spring-biassed hook on a plate but slidable relative to the bracket and its guide, and notches on the guide receiving the hook so that an upward and then a horizontal motion is needed to free the hook from the guide and allow adjustment of the bracket vertically along the guide.

Abstract: An orthopedic cradle for aiding in the prevention of hip articulation disorders in infants, comprises, bottom, foot, head and side walls, a post secured at its lower end to the bottom wall at an intermediate location on its central longitudinal axis, and a transverse bar joined at its mid-portion to the upper end of the post and at its opposite ends to the side walls. The post and transverse bar define a pair of sockets for receiving the two legs of the infant to form an angle of 60.degree.-90.degree. with respect to the longitudinal axis of the infant's torso.
