Patent number: 9526247Abstract: There is a need for a selective, low-risk herbicide that can be used to control weeds in cereal cultures and turf. The present invention discloses that a bacterial secondary metabolite, thaxtomin and optionally another herbicide is an effective herbicide on broadleaved, sedge and grass weeds. Thaxtomin A and structurally similar compounds can be used as natural herbicides to control the germination and growth of weeds in cereal, turf grass, Timothy grass and pasture grass cultures with no phytotoxicity to these crops. As a natural, non-toxic compound, thaxtomin can be used as a safe alternative for weed control in both conventional and organic farming and gardening systems.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2014Date of Patent: December 27, 2016Assignee: Marrone Bio Innovations, Inc.Inventors: Marja Koivunen, Pamela Marrone

Patent number: 9491949Abstract: To provide a method for raising plants that have great vitality and that are strongly resistant to pests and can successfully compete against weeds. The invention provides a method for raising plants with enhanced immunity and biological activity to external and internal stresses. The present invention is characterized by the following: the method includes a step of applying to the target plants a plant immunopotentiating composition containing an immunostimulatory substance produced by the cytolysis that accompanies spore formation in aerobic endospore-forming bacteria; the immunostimulatory substance is obtained by culturing the aerobic endospore-forming bacteria, causing the bacteria to form endospores by placing the resulting culture liquid in starvation conditions, and then removing impurities including the bacterial cells that are formed into endospores from the culture liquid; and the aerobic endospore-forming bacteria belong to the MRE symbiotic bacteria group.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2012Date of Patent: November 15, 2016Assignee: Meisho Co. Publication number: 20080274888Abstract: The potent antioxidant N-acetylcysteine amide (NAC amide), or a physiologically acceptable derivative, salt, or ester thereof, is topically or exogenously applied to a plant, or part thereof, to reduce or prevent adverse reactions of plants and crops to environmental biotic and abiotic stresses, such as extremes of temperature, drought, humidity, frost, rain, as well as the presence or invasion of a variety of pests and pathogens. Such environmental stresses can result in oxidative stress and the correlated production (and buildup) of free radicals in plant cells, which damages plant cells and tissues and can lead to plant death. NAC amide reduces, prevents, alleviates, or otherwise counteracts such oxidative stress and free radical production, which adversely effect the overall growth and viability of the plant.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 21, 2006Publication date: November 6, 2008Inventor: Glenn A. Patent number: 7199082Abstract: Disclosed are compositions that comprise one or more N-acylethanolamine compounds for maintaining the freshness and appearance of cut flowers, floral products, decorative foliage, fruits, and other plant cuttings. More specifically, the present invention provides methods for treating and storing cut flowers, Christmas trees, fruits, and other severed plant parts that preserve the appearance, freshness, fragrance and/or aesthetic qualities of the botanical products. Using the disclosed compositions, the shelf life of cut flowers was substantially prolonged, in many cases 2 to 5 times longer than untreated flowers, with the treated flowers or foliage appearing healthy and viable, and without wilting, dehydration, leaf drop, or visible signs of senescence. Likewise, treatment of ornamental coniferous plants with the anti-senescent compositions delayed deterioration and leaf drop, while extending the overall appearance and quality of the plants and plant cuttings.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2000Date of Patent: April 3, 2007Assignee: University of North TexasInventors: Kent D.
