Abstract: A lubricant composition, a method for improving lubrication and a method for lubricating a machine. The lubricant composition includes a) a major amount of a base oil having a kinematic viscosity between 2 and 4 cSt at 100° C.; and b) dioctyl phosphite in an amount providing from about 100 to about 1000 ppm phosphorus to the lubricant composition. The lubricant composition has a phosphorus weight ratio of component (b) to total phosphorus in the lubricant composition of from 0.4:1 to less than about 0.8:1.

Abstract: Salts of the anion of di-, tri- or tetrathiophosphoric acid of the formula I in which Z1 and Z2 are each independently an oxygen or sulfur atom, and Ra and Rb are each independently an organic group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, and a cation which comprises a heterocyclic ring system having one to three nitrogen atoms.
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for improving compatibility of a fluorocarbon elastomer seal with a lubricating oil composition containing (a) a major amount of a base oil of lubricating viscosity; and (b) one or more dispersants containing one or more basic nitrogen atoms. The method involves adding to the lubricating oil composition an effective amount of one or more fluorocarbon elastomer compatibility improving agents comprising one or more oil-soluble titanium compounds.

Abstract: An additive for lubricants including a dispersible metal complex compound containing phosphorus and nitrogen. This complex compound consists of a co-ordination compound containing a fatty acid residue and at most one RCOO group per two metal atoms. Zinc is the metal of preference. Utilization for wet drawing of metal wire.
Abstract: A copolymer comprising units of an unsaturated dicarboxylic monomer and an ethylene .alpha.-olefin macromer is disclosed. The macromer is an unsaturated ethylene .alpha.-olefin polymer comprising units of from ethylene and at least one .alpha.-olefin represented by the formula CH.sub.2 .dbd.CHR.sup.a, wherein R.sup.a is a C.sub.1 to C.sub.18 linear alkyl group or a C.sub.3 to C.sub.18 branched alkyl group; the ethylene .alpha.-olefin polymer has a number average molecular weight of from about 500 to about 100,000; and at least about 30% of the unsaturation in the ethylene .alpha.-olefin polymer is terminal vinylidene. The copolymer has a carbon-carbon backbone and contains succinic groups and hydrocarbyl groups. The copolymer can be derivatized by reaction with nucleophilic reactants including monoamines, polyamines, monoalcohols, polyols, amino alcohols, reactant metal compounds and mixtures thereof. The derivatized copolymers can be post-treated (e.g., borated) with one or more post-treating agents (e.g.

Abstract: Oleaginous compositions and additive concentrates therefor having enhanced performance characteristics comprise a) at least one oil-soluble overbased alkali or alkaline earth metal-containing detergent having a TBN of at least 200; and b) one or more oil-soluble boron-free additive compositions formed by heating (i) at least one boron-free oil-soluble ashless dispersant containing basic nitrogen and/or at least one hydroxyl group, with (ii) at least one inorganic phosphorus acid such that a liquid boron-free phosphorus-containing composition is formed.
