Abstract: A trunk piston lubricating oil composition of TBN 20 to 60 comprising (A) a high saturates low sulphur oil of lubricating viscosity in a major amount; (B) an overbased metal hydroxybenzoate detergent additive; (C) a polyisobutene succinic anhydride additive (1-7 mass %); and (D) a meta-linear pentadecyl phenol additive (10.1 to 10 mass %), the weight ratio of (D) to (C) being less than 1 and the combined treat rate of (B), (C) and (D) being 5 to 30%. The composition is useful to improve asphaltene dispersancy when lubricating a medium-speed compression-ignited marine engine fueled by a heavy fuel oil.
Abstract: The present invention relates to the field of processing hydrocarbons which causes corrosion in the metal surfaces of processing units. The invention addresses the technical problem of high temperature naphthenic acid corrosion and sulphur corrosion and provides a solution to inhibit these types of corrosion. The composition formed by reacting high reactive polyisobutylene (HRPIB) with phosphorous pentasulphide in presence of catalytic amount of sulphur provides high corrosion inhibition efficiency in case of high temperature naphthenic acid corrosion inhibition and sulphur corrosion inhibition. The invention is useful in all hydrocarbon processing units, such as, refineries, distillation columns and other petrochemical industries.

Abstract: Internal combustion engines exhibit improved efficiency of the emissions control system by using a lubricating oil composition of a base oil, an alkali or alkaline earth metal-containing detergent; a metal salt of one or more phosphorus-containing compounds represented by the formula (I), wherein X1 and X2 are independently O or S, and R1 and R2 are independently hydrocarbyl groups, the average total number of carbon atoms in R1 and R2 for the one or more phosphorus-containing compounds being at least 10.4; and an acylated nitrogen-containing compound having at least about 10 alphatic carbon atoms and a TBN of at least about 2; the lubricating oil composition being characterized by a phosphorus concentration of up to about 0.12% by weight and the substantial absence of copper, thereby generating a lean-phosphorus containing exhaust gas.

Abstract: A lubricant suitable for use in a trunk piston diesel engine characterised by a power output of 200 kW or greater. The trunk piston diesel engine may be for use in marine, power generation or rail traction applications. The lubricant comprises a basestock of lubricating viscosity, an overbased metal detergent, preferably having an ash content of at least 0.85% sulfated ash, and an ashless or metal-free auxiliary additive comprising at least one of: an oil-soluble sulfurized alkylphenol, a phosphorosulfurized or sulfurized hydrocarbon, a sulfide of an oil, a fat or a polyolefin, or an amine phosphate.
