Patent number: 10704007Abstract: A composition comprises the reaction product of a dithiophosphate derivative and an amine. The reaction product is present in the composition in an amount of at least about 25 wt. %. The composition may include additional components. A method of forming the composition comprises the step of combining the dithiophosphate derivative and the amine to form the composition. A method of increasing thermal stability of a dithiophosphate derivative comprises the step of combining the dithiophosphate derivative and an amine. The dithiophosphate derivative can decompose to form hydrogen sulfide (H2S). However, the amine substantially prevents thermal decomposition of the dithiophosphate derivative. An example of the dithiophosphate derivative is 3-(di-isobutoxy-thiophosphorylsulfanyl)-2-methyl-propanoic acid. An example of the amine is ditridecyl amine. The composition can be used for a variety of applications.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2018Date of Patent: July 7, 2020Assignee: BASF SEInventors: Michael Dennis Hoey, Eugene Scanlon, Frederick Mensah, Douglas S. Patent number: 6816341Abstract: A recording element or a reproducing element in a head generates heat that decomposes lubricating agent adhered to a slider surface near the recording/reproducing element of the head. This decomposed lubricating agent leads to corrosion of the magnetic layer and the like of the magnetic disk. The magnetic disk surface to which the lubricating agent is adhered comes into contact with the magnetic head, leading to friction with the protective layer, the magnetic layer, and the like. In the worst case, this can lead to secondary errors where data recorded on the magnetic layer is erased.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 2003Date of Patent: November 9, 2004Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Hiroyuki Matsumoto, Hiroshi Tani, Mitsuhiro Shoda, Koji Sonoda, Takayuki Nakakawaji, Mina Amo, Yutaka Ito

Patent number: 6025310Abstract: The invention provides novel organic compounds, and more particularly those having excellent lubricity, compatible with lubricating organic compounds having a benzene ring and a phosphazine ring and retaining stability free of hydrolysis for a prolonged period of time. The organic compounds are represented by the formula R.sub.1 --R.sub.0 --R.sub.1 or R.sub.0 --R.sub.1. R.sub.0 is a chain saturated organic group containing a chain of carbon atoms or a chain of carbon atom C and oxygen atom O, and filled with fluorine atoms F or trifluoromethyl groups CF.sub.3 except at one end or both ends of the chain. R.sub.1 is --CH.sub.2 --O--(CH.sub.2).sub.p --{CH(CH.sub.3)}.sub.k --{C(CH.sub.3).sub.2 }.sub.t --R.sub.2 wherein p, k and t are each an integer of 0 or not smaller than 1, and R.sub.2 is phenyl or a functional group corresponding to phenyl in which at least one of the hydrogen atoms is substituted with a compound of at least two elements selected from the group consisting of C, H, O and F or with F, Br or Cl.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 1998Date of Patent: February 15, 2000Assignee: Kubota CorporationInventors: Ikuzo Nishiguchi, Hiroki Hara, Sigeru Tsuboi, Seiki Sugi, Kazuhiro Higuchi
