Abstract: The addition of alkyl salicylic acids and esters represented by Formula I where R1?H or C12 to C22 linear alkyl group; R2?H or linear C12 to C22 carbonyl group; and R3=linear C12 to C22 alkyl group reduces the pour point of a hydrocarbon base oil. Thus, both a method for reducing the pour point of hydrocarbon oils and lubricating composition containing pour point reducing salicylates are provided. The hydrocarbon base oil in such method and composition preferably is a Group III base oil.

Abstract: The present invention provides a process for preparing an overbased barium complex and an overbased barium complex prepared thereby. The process includes the steps of: heating a mixture of barium hydroxide monohydrate and an isomeric mixture of from about C10 to about C15 alcohols in the presence of a solvent, thereby producing a first mixture; contacting the first mixture and an isomeric mixture of from about C8 to about C10 branched carboxylic acids, thereby producing a second mixture which includes unreacted barium hydroxide; and contacting the second mixture and carbon dioxide, thereby producing the overbased barium complex. The overbased barium complex of the present invention is useful in the stabilization of halogen-containing polymers.

Abstract: This invention describes a blend of three base stock fluids, a PAO, an alkylated aromatic and a aromatic ester that synergistically improve the solvency for industrial lubricant additives such as oxidation and rust inhibitors, extreme-pressure/antiwear agents, metal deactivators and the like. The blend also has excellent hydrolytic stability plus improved dispersancy and resistance to deposit formation without degrading demulsibility.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a lubricant composition for a high temperature of which the amount evaporated in a thin film at a high temperature is controlled and of which the fluidity is maintained for a long period of time, and it is a lubricant composition for a high temperature which is obtained by mixing a base oil composition comprising (a) 20 to 100% by weight of a specific aromatic ester and (b) 0 to 80% by weight of another base oil with (c) 0.1 to 10% by weight, based on the total amount of the lubricant composition, of an antioxidant.
Abstract: A lubricating oil composition for internal combustion engines which comprises a base oil, (a) an ashless dispersant containing boron, (b) a metallic detergent, and optionally (c) at least one selected from a group consisting of esters of aromatic carboxylic acids having hydroxyl group and hydroxy compounds and compounds containing boron which are derived from the esters, wherein a ratio [B]/[M] of a content of boron [B] in the composition in % by weight to a total content of metals [M] derived from the detergent in the composition in % by weight is not less than 0.15, and a sulfated ash content in the composition is not more than 1.5% by weight. The lubricating oil composition has a low ash content, does not show adverse effects on the performance of apparatuses for exhaust gas treatment, and exhibits excellent resistance to coking and oxidation stability.
