Patent number: 6852678Abstract: An aqueous lubricant is provided which by simple application onto metal surfaces forms lubricating films required for heavy working of metals, and which contains no oil. The aqueous lubricant is prepared by suspending or dispersing a metal chelate compound in water with a surfactant or the like. The metal chelate compound has a polydentate or multidentate chelate ligand, in which at least one of the coordinating atoms is sulfur, coordinated to the coordination site of at least one metal species selected from among zinc, manganese, iron, molybdenum, tin and antimony. When applied onto metal surfaces, the aqueous lubricant forms effective lubricating films on the metal surfaces. The lubricating films contain sulfur as coordinating atoms and therefore, extreme pressure produces sulfur radicals through decomposition by tribo-chemical reactions. The sulfur radicals are highly reactive and react rapidly with the metal surface to produce metal sulfides with a lubricating effect.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 2001Date of Patent: February 8, 2005Assignees: MEC International Corporation, Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Heijiro Ojima, Masahiko Takeuchi, Fumio Ikesue, Noritoshi Kaskimura, Fumio Kawahara, Mitsuru Tomono

Publication number: 20020183214Abstract: Non-polymeric fatty acid drag reducing agents are described herein. These additives are useful to reduce drag in hydrocarbon fluids and multiphase fluids of hydrocarbon(s) and water. No injection probes or other special equipment is expected to be required to introduce the drag reducing agent into the liquid stream, nor is grinding (cryogenic or otherwise) of the additive necessary to form a suitable drag reducing agent. The drag reducing additives of the invention are not subject to shear degradation and do not cause undesirable changes in the emulsion or fluid quality of the fluid being treated, or undesirable foaming. The drag reducing additives include fatty acids, alkoxylated derivatives of fatty acids, organic and inorganic salts of fatty acids and alkoxylated derivatives thereof, and esters of fatty acids and alkoxylated derivatives thereof, and mixtures thereof.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 30, 2001Publication date: December 5, 2002Inventors: Vladimir Jovancicevic, Keith A. Patent number: 6489272Abstract: A composition useful as a well lubricant, solvent, emulsifier, and performance extender for corrosion inhibitors in high velocity gas, oil or water drilling, production or gathering applications, that is preferably formed by the reaction and distillation of a tall oil fatty acid with a fatty alkanolamide, preferably in the presence of methyl ester of fatty acids, and most preferably when further reacted and distilled with an emulsifier such as coconut oil diethanolamide or distilled tall oil amide of aminoethylpiperazine. The fatty acids and oils useful in the invention can range from C8 to C24, with C12, C14, C16, C18 and C20 fatty acids and oils being most preferred. The presence of methyl ester is preferred because it functions as a foam suppressant, diluent and amine scavenger during distillation.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 2001Date of Patent: December 3, 2002Inventor: Larry W.
