Abstract: The invention concerns a process for the preparation of a lubricant combination including to steps of selecting a first and a second lubricant; mixing the lubricants and subjecting the mixture to conditions for adhering the particles of the second lubricant to the particles of the first lubricant in order to form a lubricant combination of aggregate particles having a core of the first lubricant, the surface of the core being coated with particles of the second lubricant. The invention also concerns a surface modified lubricant combination including a core of a first lubricant, the surface of which is coated with particles of a second lubricant.

  • Patent number: 6303547
Abstract: The reaction product of at least one C5-C60 carboxylic acid and at least one amine selected from the group consisting of guanidine, aminoguanidine, urea, thioruea and salts thereof is useful as a gear oil additive. The lubricant formulations exhibit excellent low and high temperature rheology and are particularly suited for use in automotive and industrial gear applications. Lubricants of the present invention exhibit improved performance properties, such as increased axle efficiencies and lower axle temperatures, improved limited slip performance, reduced chatter, improved frictional durability and/or improved power divider performance compared to lubricant formulations that do not contain said reaction products.

  • Patent number: 5783531
Abstract: A method is disclosed for improving the thickener yield in soap thickened polyalphaolefin base oil greases comprising the steps of (a) producing a simple or complex soap thickener in a quantity of a first PAO of viscosity lower than that of the base oil component in the final grease composition to produce a thickened PAO and (b) adding to the thickened PAO a quantity of a second PAO of viscosity higher than that desired of the base oil component in the final grease composition sufficient to produce a final grease product having the desired base oil viscosity.

  • Patent number: 5639716
Abstract: Oil-soluble dispersant additives are disclosed. The additives comprise the reaction product of a functionalized 1-butene copolymer and at least one nucleophilic reactant selected from amines, amino alcohols, alcohols, and reactive metal compounds. The functionalized copolymer has within its structure at least one acyl functional group selected from the group consisting of C.sub.4 to C.sub.10 dicarboxylic acids and derivatives thereof and C.sub.3 to C.sub.10 monocarboxylic acids and derivatives thereof. The 1-butene copolymer is derived from 1-butene and at least one other .alpha.-olefin of formula CH.sub.2 .dbd.CHR', wherein R' is methyl or a C.sub.3 to C.sub.12 linear or branched alkyl group. The copolymer has a number average molecular weight of at least about 700, a molecular weight distribution of less than 5, and ethenylidene groups terminating at least about 30% of all polymer chains.
