    Abstract: The present invention provides new stilbene compounds which are useful as fluorescent whitening agents (FWAs), imparting high whiteness levels to textile fibre material treated with them, and which also impart a high sun protection factor (SPF) to textile fibre material treated with them. The present invention also concerns a method of imparting a high whiteness level and a high sun protection factor to textile fibre material, especially cotton, polyamide and wool, comprising treating the textile material with the new compounds.

    Abstract: Sulfonates of perfume alcohols are provided. The sulfonates have the general formulas of (I), (II), or combinations thereof: ##STR1## wherein R and Z are independently selected from the group consisting of nonionic or anionic, substituted or unsubstituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.30 straight, branched or cyclic alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, alkylaryl or aryl group; Y is a radical that, upon hydrolysis of said sulfonate, forms an alcohol with a boiling point at 760 mm Hg of less than about 300 .degree.C. which are perfumes. The sulfonates are employed as perfume components in laundry and cleaning compositions such as fabric softening compositions.
