Abstract: An improved composition and method for cleaning and disinfecting a garbage disposal that does not require aerosol propellants or carbon dioxide gas generating reaction systems. The composition comprises a suds stabilizing surfactant and a disinfecting agent, plus other optional ingredients such as additional detergent surfactant and scouring agents. In the method of cleaning and disinfecting, a flow of water is provided to the garbage disposal and the composition is then added while the garbage disposal is turned on. The mechanical action of the garbage disposal grinder blades rapidly mixes the composition with water to create suds and disperse the suds around the entire interior chamber, thus cleansing and disinfecting the garbage disposal. After the suds are generated, the flow of water is discontinued, with the garbage disposal being turned off within about 1 minute after the flow of water is discontinued.

  • Patent number: 6232280
Abstract: A cleaning composition includes a detectable substance which is relatively stable in the cleaning composition, for indicating whether the cleaning composition has been thoroughly removed from a vessel following a cleaning process. For pharmaceutical applications, the detectable substance is preferably a low-foaming surfactant that is detectable by high performance liquid chromatography at concentrations of around 10 ppm, or less. The surfactant is thus detectable in the same analytical procedure as are traces of pharmaceutical residues which have not been removed from the vessel. The analytical procedure is used to develop a cleaning protocol for future cleaning processes by determining the number of rinses needed for reducing the surfactant, and hence the cleaning product, and also the pharmaceutical residues, in the rinse water to predetermined acceptable levels.

  • Patent number: 6090772
Abstract: A disinfectant hand wash includes Triclosan and a reduced amount of surfactants in order to reduce skin irritation while maintaining improved activity against Gram negative and Gram positive organisms, including Serratia marcescens. The hand wash includes an effective amount of Triclosan, preferably 0.2-3.0% and a non-aqueous solvent. Hexylene glycol, or a mixture of hexylene glycol and isopropanol as the non-aqueous solvent provide improved efficacy in killing skin-born microbes. The hand wash further includes less than about 10% surfactant, preferably less than 5%. The hand wash further includes a chelating agent, a thickener, a buffering agent, and water.

  • Patent number: 6048471
Abstract: Environmentally-safer resin-solvent compositions are provided which are generally free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The solvent and resin-solvent compositions may replace high-VOC hydrocarbon solvents for use in inks, coatings, adhesives and the like. These novel compositions are negligibly reactive with hydroxyl radicals and therefore are able to reach higher into the atmosphere before decomposing.

  • Patent number: 6028113
Abstract: Solid sanitizing compositions have advantages over corresponding liquids and powders. A solid sanitizing product can be contained within a plastic bottle with a label indicating that the contents have antimicrobial or deodorizing properties containing a non-flowable solid composition having greater than about 0.02 percent by weight antimicrobial compounds. The preferred solid sanitizing compositions consist essentially of an antimicrobial compound selected from the group consisting of quaternary ammonium salts, fatty amines and diamines, chlorhexidine gluconate, phenol, derivatives of phenol, parachloro metaxylenol and mixtures thereof, and between 0 and 99.98 percent by weight of a cleaning composition. The solid sanitizing compositions can be effectively used with solid dispensers. The solid dispensers have a bowl with a drain at the bottom and an upward pointing spray nozzle.
