  • Patent number: 6297208
Abstract: A rust stain removal formula using fluoboric acid as the active ingredient and a method of making same. The inventive formula does not etch glazed, glass or enamel surfaces to which the formula is applied. Further, the inventive formula reduces other problems caused by the hydrofluoric acid used as the active ingredient in prior art rust stain removal formulas. The formula is initially formed by adding ammonium bifluoride, and then boric acid to a solution of heated water. Oxalic acid is then added. The ammonium bifluoride reacts with the boric acid to form fluoboric acid. Optional ingredients such as a thickener and perfume may also be included in the inventive rust stain removal formula.

  • Patent number: 6232280
Abstract: A cleaning composition includes a detectable substance which is relatively stable in the cleaning composition, for indicating whether the cleaning composition has been thoroughly removed from a vessel following a cleaning process. For pharmaceutical applications, the detectable substance is preferably a low-foaming surfactant that is detectable by high performance liquid chromatography at concentrations of around 10 ppm, or less. The surfactant is thus detectable in the same analytical procedure as are traces of pharmaceutical residues which have not been removed from the vessel. The analytical procedure is used to develop a cleaning protocol for future cleaning processes by determining the number of rinses needed for reducing the surfactant, and hence the cleaning product, and also the pharmaceutical residues, in the rinse water to predetermined acceptable levels.

  • Patent number: 6165957
Abstract: A method of preparing an environmentally safe composition free of chlorinated solvents which is non-flammable, fully biodegradable, and low odor and the use of such composition for the removal of various coatings from metal substrates. The composition comprises a water-based mixture of one or more high boiling, high flash aromatic solvents (benzyl alcohol, benzyl ether, 1-phenoxy-2-propanol), a peroxide generating agent (hydrogen peroxide), and a hydroxycarboxylic acid (glycolic acid). It can be prepared as a liquid and used as such for immersion/dipping operations or as a thick paste "cling-type" material when optimal application requires a thin film. These can be applied by spraying or brushing.

  • Patent number: 6159916
Abstract: An improved cleaning composition is provided for shower and tub surfaces which is of the "shower rinsing" type, requiring no scrubbing, wiping, or immediate rinsing. The composition comprises:(a) a glycoside surfactant, the total amount of said surfactant being present in a cleaning effective amount;(b) a chelating agent, said chelating agent present in an amount effective to enhance bathroom soil removal in said composition; and(c) the remainder, water. A solvent such as isopropyl alcohol may also be added. The employment of a glycoside surfactant, especially one having an HLB value of greater than 13, remarkably improves the performance of such a shower rinsing composition both with respect to surface appearance streaking and filming and also bathroom soil and soap scum removing ability.

  • Patent number: 6126697
Abstract: Carpeting, upholstery, drapery and other textile fibers are cleaned by applying to the fibers, from a pressurized container, an aqueous internally carbonated non-surfactant cleaning composition prepared by admixing, by volume, about 125 ml (150 grams) of an alkaline metal bicarbonate or percarbonate salt, about 62.5 ml (57.4 grams) of a carbonate salt and about 187.5 ml (165 grams) of a natural solid acid, in an aqueous medium such that the natural solid acid reacts with the carbonate/bicarbonate salts to produce carbon dioxide and the solids concentration in the solution resulting from the carbonate salts and natural solid acid forming the basis of the cleaning solution. Citric acid, sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate are the preferred solid acid and carbonate salts. The composition is prepared from naturally occurring ingredients and the container is pressurized by air or other environmentally safe gaseous materials.
