Abstract: Self-adhesive detergent compositions are described including a pH-sensitive color-changing system. The color-changing system is useful with certain acidic compositions and certain alkaline compositions. The compositions have a given color upon application to a hard surface, e.g., a toilet bowl. In one embodiment, when the self-adhesive composition is exposed to a water-based rinse, such as on flushing a toilet, the color-changing system provides the released cleaning portion of the composition, and thereby the water, with a color different from the color of the composition to indicate cleaning is occurring. In another embodiment, following exposure to a plurality of rinses, the color-changing system changes the color of the composition when the composition is near depletion to provide an “end-of-use” cue.

  • Publication number: 20130005578
Abstract: The present invention relates to a composition comprising a) an anionic compound having wetting and dispersing properties selected from the group of a1) an alkyl naphthalene sulfonate, a2) a naphthalene sulfonate-formaldehyde condensate that may optionally be alkyl substituted and mixtures thereof, and b) a nitrogen-containing surfactant selected from the group consisting of alkylamine alkoxylates, alkylamidoamine alkoxylates, alkanolamides and their alkoxylates, alkylamidopropylamines, betaines, amino acids, or any mixtures thereof, wherein the molar amount of anionic sulfonate and, if any are present, carboxylate groups in the composition is in excess of the molar amount of nitrogen-containing groups. These compositions exhibit synergistic wetting properties as compared to the surface-active components taken alone. Further, the compositions also exhibit an increased rainfastness.

  • Publication number: 20130005640
Abstract: The present invention provides a biodegradable cleaning composition that includes a surfactant component including an ethoxylated 2-propyl heptanol, a chelating component including a tri-sodium salt of methylglycinediacetic acid and an emulsifier component including an ethoxylated hexanol having the formula C6H13O(CH2CH2O)H. The ethoxylated 2-propyl heptanol has the formula C5H11CH(C3H7)CH2O(C2H4O)PH, wherein p is a number of from 3 to 6. The composition also includes water and an acid component to establish a pH of the composition at less than 2. The composition is substantially free of solvents thereby reducing emission of volatile organic compounds and reducing potential environmental pollution and health hazards. The composition is also effective in removing rust, lime soap, and metal salts of fatty acids from hard surfaces including metal, vinyl, and fiberglass.

  • Patent number: 8329630
Abstract: Cleaner compositions, methods of making cleaners, and methods of use are disclosed. Disclosed is a method of formulating a ready-to-use degreaser composition that has extended to infinite cling time. The method of making the cleaner results in thickened compositions that are capable of removing from vertical and inverted surfaces fresh, greasy and baked-on soils encountered in the food industry. The compositions include one or more alkalinity sources, one or more chelants, one or more surfactants, one or more thickening agents, one or more solvents, one or more buffers, and as a remainder, water. Compositions prepared according to the method of the invention are substantially free of phosphorous and have a low caustic content making them user friendly, having a lower pH than commercially available cleaners. Yet the cleaners prepared according to the method of the invention are surprisingly effective at removing tenacious baked-on soils encountered in the food service industry.
