Abstract: Novel mixtures of long-chain (C10-C20) olefins are functionalized by conversion to aldehydes using an OXO process, or to sulfates, sulfonates, sulfones, sulfides, or sulfoxides by direct sulfonation. The aldehydes may then be hydrogenated to form alcohols, or aminated to form amines or amides. The olefins starting mixture may be acquired as a byproduct of the tetramerization of ethylene in the presence of certain chromium-containing tetramerization catalysts. The functionalized mixtures, and derivatives prepared therefrom such as alkoxylates prepared from the alcohols, may be useful as surfactants that may offer improved performance in many applications, while their preparation based on a byproduct mixture reduces their cost and also reduces waste-handling issues for this non-targeted stream.

Abstract: According to the invention, a slow setting bitumen-aggregate mix for cold paving is manufactured by a) preparing a cationic oil-in-water emulsion of bitumen in the presence of an emulsifier containing i) a tertiary polyamine selected from the group consisting of a di(C2-C3 alkylene)triamine, a tri(C2-C3 alkylene)tetraamine, a tetra(C2-C3 alkylene)pentaamine, a penta(C2-C3 alkylene)hexaamine, a hexa(C2 C3 alkylene)heptaamine or a mixture thereof, which amine compounds have only tertiary amine groups and contain one or two aliphatic groups with 8-22 carbon atoms, bound to a nitrogen atom, while the remaining nitrogen substituents are methyl groups and ii) an acid present in such an amount that the aqueous emulsion obtains a pH value from 1-6, preferably 1.5-5, and b) mixing the aqueous emulsion obtained with a solid aggregate.
Abstract: A composition consisting of the reaction product of a halogenated carboxylic acid, an amine, and optionally a fatty acid. The composition has biocidal properties and enhances pigment dispersibility.
Abstract: The invention provides a polymer composition for flexibilizing building materials, in the form of their aqueous dispersion or of powder redispersible in water, containing
a) at least one water-insoluble, film-forming polymer of one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers capable of free radical polymerization,
b) at least one compound from the group consisting of the water-soluble polymers of one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers capable of free radical polymerization, and the ionic and nonionic emulsifiers, and
c) a mixture of at least two organosilicon compounds, at least one of which is an amino-functional organosilicon compound present in salt form.

Abstract: A method of emulsifying asphalt using a polyamine polybetaine, preferably a dibetaine, as an emulsifier or co-emulsifier and an emulsion of asphalt, water and a polybetaine, preferably a diamine dibetaine. The advantages of using a polyamine polybetaine as an emulsifier or co-emulsifier include its ability to provide superior cationic and anionic emulsions, and slow-setting emulsions at low use levels, and the excellent adhesion of the cured asphalt film.
Abstract: Disclosed are ethylenically unsaturated amine salts of sulfonic, phosphoric and carboxylic acids. The salts are surface active agents which are useful in a variety of applications as primary and/or secondary surfactants. The salts are especially useful as surfactants in emulsion polymerization reactions.
Abstract: A process for preparing a composition comprising a mixture with ester and amine function in the form of ester-amines, amines, salts of amines, monoglycerides and diglycerides all derived from monomeric, dimeric, trimeric, and/or tetrameric fatty acids contained in polymerized polyunsaturated oil comprising: (a) polymerizing a polyunsaturated vegetable or animal oil to form a polymerized oil, (b) treating the polymerized oil with water vapor, and (c) reacting the polymerized oil with an excess of at least one compound containing at least one hydroxyl function and at least one tertiary amine function, optionally in the presence of a catalyst. Said methods further comprise adding the compositions to an oil effluent as dispersing agents for hydrates.
Abstract: A dispersant is prepared from an amine and a hydrocarbyl-substituted acylating agent, wherein the hydrocarbyl substituent is a polymerized olefin having a polydispersity {overscore (M)}w/{overscore (M)}n of greater than 5. Such polyolefin substituents are prepared by polymerization of olefins in the presence of a calcined catalyst comprising a partially or fully neutralized ammonium salt of a heteropolyacid.
