Patent number: 7610733Abstract: A framing assembly system for steel building that substantially reduces assembly time while maintaining excellent strength and mechanical integrity and has vastly improved resistance to uplift forces. Foundation assemblies or anchor structures are first precisely located before concrete is poured to form the foundation, encasing the anchor structures within the foundation. Columns may then be attached to the anchor structures without the need for readjusting the location of the columns. The rest of the building framework is subsequently attached to the columns. The resulting structure is highly resistant to uplift forces and seismic effects while being much faster and simpler to assemble than previous structures. Cracking of the concrete foundation prior to the complete curing of the concrete is also reduced.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2007Date of Patent: November 3, 2009Assignee: Business Network Solutions U.S.A. Patent number: 6360495Abstract: A sand spike system anchors a cable in an earthen substrate. A penetrator connected to the cable has folded petal-shaped sections of spring steel propelled into the earth by a propellant. Cables connected to opposite petal-shaped sections help arrest penetration and spread the folded petal-shaped sections outwardly to increase the resistance to tensile loads. Sand spike system may use a delay activated or an electrically initiated propellant to drive the penetrator into the earth instead of mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic force. This permits remote initiation of sand spikes from a safe distance on land or underwater. In addition, each sand spike creates far a greater surface area to entrain and use the earthen substrate and not friction to anchor, and, as a consequence, it safely bears greater tensile loads on the cable.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1999Date of Patent: March 26, 2002Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventor: Stephen J. Patent number: 6216803Abstract: An anchor assembly for securing a boring machine to the earth is provided. The anchor assembly includes a shaft equipped with a helical assembly by which the shaft can be driven into and removed from the earth like a screw. The helical assembly preferably includes a plurality of flights and a plurality of wings pivotally attached to the flights and helically aligned therewith. The wings and flights are configured so that rotation in one direction urges the wings into the retracted position. However, counter-rotation for only part of a turn forces the wings into the extended position, which expands the diameter of the helical assembly. Thus, the extended wings bite into soil that was undisturbed during the initial insertion, providing increased frictional engagement between the anchor and the soil. Yet, because the wings are helically aligned with the flights, the extended wings do not substantially resist withdrawal of the anchor assembly from soil by reverse rotation.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 1999Date of Patent: April 17, 2001Assignee: The Charles Machine Works, Inc.Inventor: Arthur D. Patent number: 4706921Abstract: The disclosure relates to a base support for an antenna mounting post and a method of installing the same in the ground. In one preferred embodiment the base support comprises two clamping members which may be positioned and secured about the outside diameter of a post after the post has been inserted into the ground to the appropriate depth. Each of the clamping members includes a pair of angularly adjustable guides each adapted to receive and support a rod that is driven into the ground to provide stabilizing support for the post. The angularly adjustable guides allow the rods to be driven into the ground at a variety of angles and, in the event an obstruction such as a rock is encountered while driving the rod, the rod may be withdrawn, the angle of the guide altered, and the rod reinserted into the guide and driven into the ground once again.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 1986Date of Patent: November 17, 1987Inventor: Dale W. Patent number: 4662793Abstract: A pile tip is disclosed for use in driving interconnected piles into the ground. The pile tip includes a load bearing base which includes a ground engaging surface which engages and penetrates the ground as the piles are driven in tandem. Pile receiving sockets project from the base in a direction opposite to the ground engaging surface for receiving ends of the piles and for protecting the received ends as the piles are driven. The base also protects the joint or connector used to interconnect the piles.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1986Date of Patent: May 5, 1987Assignee: Versa Steel, Inc.Inventor: Bernard A. Mares

Patent number: 4449848Abstract: Means for providing a vertical drain in soil, comprising a push tube to be pushed into the soil and which carries within itself a prefabricated drain provided with a plate-like anchor on the lower end, and which anchor rests against the lower end of the push tube, and keeps the prefabricated drain in its place when the push tube is pulled upwards. The difficulty lies in making sure that the anchor and the prefabricated drain really remain stationary also in soft soil. As taught by the invention, the lower end of the push tube is provided with at least one pouch-like pressure member located between said push tube and the anchor and inflatable by the aid of a pressurized fluid so that it will push the anchor off the lower end of the push tube and spread it out in an opened position.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 1983Date of Patent: May 22, 1984Inventor: Mauno O. Patent number: 3962837Abstract: An apparatus is provided for expandably engaging the walls of an earthen hole in order to resist movement urged by an external force. After placement of the apparatus into an earthen hole at a location where some external force is to be restrained, the detonation of an explosive charge drives a piston out of an explosion chamber, and by a wedging action, forces an axially segmented cylinder outwardly against the surrounding earth. A substantially stable connecting foundation is thus created in order to resist either tensile or compressive forces.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 1974Date of Patent: June 15, 1976Inventor: Samuel J.
