Abstract: An end termination (15) for a tension leg (10) of non-metallic materials like composite material is disclosed. The tension leg (10) is constructed of a number of strands (5,6) which constitute the load carrying elements of the tension leg (10). The strands (5,6) are twisted (laid) about the longitudinal axis of the tension leg by a predetermined laying length and in turn each strand (5,6) is constructed of a plurality of rods (7) of composite material having embedded strength fibres. The rods (7) are in turn twisted about each other like in a wire rope. The strands (5,6) terminate into a receiving body (16) that forms fixing points for the respective strands. The end termination (15) comprises an embracing element (17) that is spaced apart from the receiving body (16) and keeps the strands (5,6) together.

  • Patent number: 6718707
Abstract: An assembly for compressing a foundation piling prevents individual piling segments from sliding out of alignment. The assembly is an anchoring device that is lowered into a passageway running through a concrete or steel foundation piling to a desired depth. The anchoring device is suspended to a cable and has a center section and at least one moveable wing or wedge attached to the center section. Then a weight is dropped onto the anchoring device. The force of the impact causes the wings on the anchoring device to slide down and extend away from the center section. The force of the impact also forces the wings to grip the piling because the anchoring assembly is wider than the passageway when the wings slide down the center section. Tension is applied to the cable, which is now secured to the piling by the anchoring device. The tension in the cable creates a compressive state on the piling which prevents the individual segments from sliding out of alignment.

Abstract: A roof anchor with a channel fits over a roof panel rib typically having a rib head supported by a narrower rib neck. Opposing bolts on each anchor side thread through matching threaded holes in anchor sides and into the channel, sandwiching a roof panel rib therebetween when it is received into the channel. Alternatively, bolts on a single anchor side may sandwich the roof panel rib between the bolts and the other anchor side. To prevent the anchor from lifting off the roof panel rib, the bolts are located on the anchor sides low in the anchor channel, sufficiently apart from the anchor top so that the roof panel rib head can be received between the bolts and the anchor top. A rib bar typically shaped to functionally match the roof panel rib may be inserted within the roof panel rib as a brace to prevent a roof panel rib from collapsing under force of the bolts. When the anchor bolts tighten against the roof panel rib, the panel rib sides are sandwiched between the rib bar and the bolts.

Abstract: A joint made between prestressing strands with a prestressing strand coupler is covered with a transparent coupler sheath having a retarded-hardening resin filling material injection opening and discharge opening provided in a tube wall thereof, and a resin filling material is injected into the transparent coupler sheath from the injection opening to fill the coupler sheath with the filling material. Thereafter, the whole outer peripheral portion of the prestressing strand joint, including the coupler sheath, is embedded with placed concrete. Tension is applied to the prestressing strands after the concrete has hardened and before the resin filling material hardens, thereby completing an excellent prestressing strand joint structure. According to the present invention, the filling condition of the resin filling material in the coupler sheath around the prestressing strand joint can readily be confirmed by visual observation.

Abstract: A tie-down apparatus for building structures, including mobile homes. The structure is constructed with a plurality of structural members including channel members disposed therein. In one embodiment, channel members are formed in both the roof structural members and the sidewall structural members. A tie-down cable is disposed within the channels and the two terminal ends thereof releasably engaged with hooks. The hooks are further attached to ground anchors located within the ground adjacent structural sidewalls. A tensioning mechanism is disposed near one terminal and of each of the tie-down cables for simultaneously applying a tensioning force to the tie-down cables, that in turn directs a downward force on the roof structural members thereby retaining the roof in place during high wind conditions.

  • Patent number: 6634830
Abstract: A foundation repair piling made up of segments is post tensioned by a cable fed into the segments after the piling is installed. A cable anchor serves as a base segment of multiple concrete piling segments. After installing all the concrete segments on top of the base segment, a cable is inserted into passages in the segments. The cable is threaded through the completely installed piling segments and into the cable anchor. After the cable bottoms out in the cable anchor, upward tension is applied to the cable. As the cable is pulled, cable lock members in the cable anchor increase gripping pressure even as the cable tension increases, thereby solidly anchoring the end of the cable in the cable anchor. After the desired tension is reached, the cable is terminated at the top of the last segment. The tension is held by a termination lug at the top end of the cable.
