Tubular Structure With Exposed Terminus Edge Protector Patents (Class 52/244)
  • Patent number: 4998947
Abstract: A corner cap which is designed to be formed into a selected configuration, and then attached to the corner post of a building. The corner cap is designed so that its configuration is adjustable to enable the corner cap to be attached to corner posts with configurations which can vary over a predetermined range. In use, the corner cap is adjusted, on site, to a selected configuration which corresponds to the configuration of a corner post. The corner cap is then fixed in the selected configuration, and attached to the corner post to close the end of the corner post.

  • Patent number: 4777871
Abstract: A chimney tile adapter plate for securing a chimney cap, chimney flue, spark arrester, or other chimney extension member to existing chimney tile. The tile adapter plate of the present invention includes a deflector plate, with flue opening, which rests upon the top edge or lip of the chimney tile; a collar surrounding the opening and upwardly extending from the deflector plate for attachment of the chimney extension member; a flexible, elongated band secured to the undersurface of the deflector plate, preferably by slotted brackets; and a hose-type adjustable clamp engaging both ends of the band for tightening and clamping the band about the chimney tile. The band, in being flexible, is usable on chimney tile of varying shapes and, in combination with the adjustable clamp, is usable on chimney tiles of varying circumference.

  • Patent number: 4308701
Abstract: In the pouring of concrete for building floors and walls having steel reinforcements over an area to be poured and a series of parallel spaced rows of longitudinally spaced upright dowel bars extending over the area, the method of protecting workers from impalement and injury due to a fall onto the bars consists of providing a series of downwardly facing dowel guard channels having depending support pipes and selectively positioning channels over a series of dowel bars in each row and assemblying the respective pipes over and upon the dowel bars of each row, the rows of channels being co-planer for forming a protective cover over the dowel bars. The safety dowel guard includes a downwardly facing channel and a series of longitudinally spaced support pipes within each channel, at one end secured thereto and with their other ends depending below the channels adapted to telescope over a corresponding series of dowel bars. A fastener secures each pipe to a dowel bar.

  • Patent number: 4202255
Abstract: A chimney cap of concrete construction which can be conveniently carried to the situs at the upper terminus of a chimney and readily secured thereto, to offer the purposes of keeping the rain and snow out of the chimney stack and of preventing downdrafts and of providing screening therewith so as to define spark arresters in the event of the escape of sparks through the chimney top.

  • Patent number: 4142457
Abstract: A lost mold for the casting of the ferrule, nozzle or mouthpiece of a chimney or smokestack consists of a light-weight relatively thin material which can burn off, wear or degrade in use and which is stabilized in a casting chest or box with sand for the casting of the concrete body adapted to form the ferrule or mouthpiece. The lost mold permits the casting of a draw-promoting device for a chimney by masons at the site of erection thereof and hence eliminates the need to transport massive bodies long distances. It also eliminates difficulties encountered with the shaping of the mouth of a smokestack or chimney by masons or chimney specialists.

  • Patent number: 4113110
Abstract: A storage rack is provided with posts and shelving for supporting goods. The posts are of the type having keyhole slots. Several types of post protectors are disclosed. Both of the post protectors have fasteners engageable with the keyhole slots to provide means to secure them to a storage rack to minimize damage to the storage rack posts in the event that the posts are accidentally struck by various types of vehicles such as fork lift trucks and the like. The one post protector is provided for mounting on the front face of the post and extends vertically a number of feet to protect the storage rack post from ground level upwards to a desired point. A second corner post protector is provided for mounting at right angles to the other first described post protector and provides means to shield the post from blows which might be directed or received at generally right angles to those receivable against the other first described post protector.

  • Patent number: 4092811
Abstract: A large, thin-shell cooling tower, a method for its erection, and novel precast units. Upon a foundation a series of angularly-extending columns is erected, and the columns are joined at their upper ends by a lower ring. Then a ribbed, waffle-like reinforced concrete wall is constructed to extend up from the lower ring and to provide a shell with a shape such as a hyperbolic paraboloid. The ribbed outer (or inner) surface strengthens the structure while enabling the thickness of the portions in between the ribs to be relatively thin. A series of vertically-spaced horizontal circumferential reinforcing bars or post-tensioning cables and a series of horizontally-spaced vertical or inclined bars or cables, are included in the wall. The wall is preferably made up from a series of precast units that are of novel structure in themselves. At the top of the wall is an upper ring joining the various elements together.

  • Patent number: 4058945
Abstract: A structure is disclosed for resisting pressure, such as external and internal hydrostatic pressure loading. A plurality of flat polyhedral plates are sealed together along their edges to provide an undulated cylindrical shell. An inner cylinder (and end enclosures for transferring axial loading from the outer shell to the inner cylinder) provides axial restraint. A dome over the inner cylinder may form a part of the end structure of the shell. Inner beams, rods and stiffened plates may also be employed for additional radial restraint.
