Patent number: 9010049Abstract: A water-tight, rigid plastic, domed, sphero-cylindrical protective cap is configured to be removably fitted over the convex head of a steel tent stake. The protective cap defines a sphero-cylindrical interior compartment that has a substantially flat circular base with an axial aperture. The protective cap is bilaterally hinged so that the interior compartment can be opened and the axial aperture bifurcated so as to accept the stake head for insertion through the base and enclosure within the interior compartment when the cap is closed. The bilaterally hinged structure of the cap enables it to be easily attached and removed from the tent stake, so that it can be taken off and replaced when the tent is being moved. This avoids a major problem of non-removable stake caps, which become deformed when the stakes are pulled up and hammered back into the ground.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 2014Date of Patent: April 21, 2015Assignee: Argo Bag and Box, Inc.Inventor: Joel Redman

Patent number: 8091296Abstract: A storm collar includes a shield, an upper anchoring collar, support arms, and a lower anchoring collar. The upper anchoring collar secures the shield to an exhaust stack. The support arms are attached to the underside of the shield and the lower anchoring collar. Gaskets are placed between the joints of the storm collar pieces and between the exhaust stack for a tight fit. The angle of the support arms and the shield provide a compression fit based on the load supported by the shield. The storm collar protects the flashing and joints around an exhaust stack from damage caused by moisture.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 2010Date of Patent: January 10, 2012Assignee: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America (TEMA)Inventor: Michael William Horn

Patent number: 8087144Abstract: A method and apparatus for capping and encapsulating a shaped wooden workpiece or substrate to protect against environmental elements and prevent splintering of the wooden substrate in the installed condition is disclosed. An inventive end cap having a melt ring integrally formed therewith is installed on a portion of the substrate, such as a terminus of the substrate. According to the invention, the wooden substrate is sheathed during a polymeric extrusion process with a substantially continuous, unbroken polyethylene or other polymeric layer extending from and continuous with the inventive end cap. During the extrusion process, the melt ring integrally formed along the annular walls of the end cap melt the encapsulant and form a substantially sealed configuration with the polymeric layer applied to the substrate.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 2005Date of Patent: January 3, 2012Inventor: Don Kain

Patent number: 8015757Abstract: Sill seal and termite shield (SSTS) devices are disclosed. SSTS devices for residential housing are shown for poured concrete, masonry block, and frost protected shallow foundations. The polymeric foam pad of the SSTS device seals the rough foundation wall surface. For the termite shield function, the SSTS devices use a metallic web—either foil or an impenetrable screen—or a nonmetallic web—either plastic sheet or impenetrable scrim. The termite shield or barrier layer is shown as adjacent to a weatherproofing membrane or as an interior layer of an polymeric laminate weatherproofing membrane. Hot melt adhesives attach the foam pad to the weatherproofing membrane and, where applicable, the barrier layer to the weatherproofing membrane. Pressure-activated, hot melt adhesives attach the SSTS device to the sill plate. A release sheet is applied forming a peel-and-stick device.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 2009Date of Patent: September 13, 2011Assignee: Mitek Holdings, Inc.Inventor: Ronald P. Hohmann, Jr.

Publication number: 20110113707Abstract: The present invention uses insulating concrete forms (ICF) in the construction of residential buildings. An entire wall panel is formed from polystyrene panels that may be cut by a hot wire machine. If necessary, hat channel shaped metal may be inserted into hat channel slots. Columns of polystyrene are removed so that concrete posts may be poured therein after the wall panel has been secured into place with rebar being located therein. Rebar and concrete also are formed along the top of the wall panel. Electrical and plumbing connection pathways are provided in the wall panel at the time of cutting with hot wire. Each wall panel is separately designed and cut by hot wire while still at the factory, but are all connected together to form an ICF residence. Openings are provided for doors and windows and are buck framed. Hat channels are inserted as necessary for strength and/or connection thereto.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 16, 2009Publication date: May 19, 2011Applicant: IGLOO PANELS, LLCInventor: Roy Dean Stephens, JR.
