Patent number: 4866897Abstract: A reinforced composite sheathing paper for use in wall construction between interior framing and exterior materials such as stucco in which a backing sheet of asphalt saturated kraft paper is provided on the interior surface with a plurality of reinforcing bands extending for the length of the paper in spaced parallel relation, each band including a plurality of fiberglass yarns, a thermoplastic adhesive coating each of said yarns and bonding each yarn to said interior side surface whereby each of said bands reinforces said kraft paper and minimizes deflection of said paper during application of stucco to the exterior surface of the sheathing paper. A method of preparing a wall frame construction for application of exterior stucco material including the step of wrapping in one operation the wall frame construction with a longitudinally reinforced backing sheet including reinforcing bands and securing the backing sheet to the studs of the wall frame construction.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1987Date of Patent: September 19, 1989Assignee: Fortifiber CorporationInventor: Stanley G. Patent number: 4841705Abstract: A building wall covering system for application to a wall support comprises a layer of insulative material and an overlying layer of matting which is attached to the wall support structure. The matting is particularly adapted to provide structural strength in the cementitious material applied thereto. The matting is of a bulkly layer of open construction formed by randomly directed interconnected flexible filaments. The cement layer is applied to fill the voids in the matting and cover same. A finish coat is applied to the layer of hardened cement material to complete the covering. The system has considerably enhanced impact resistance compared to existing systems.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 1987Date of Patent: June 27, 1989Assignee: 698315 Ontario, Ltd.Inventor: John P. R. Patent number: 4679367Abstract: A rigid wooden composite assembly such as a beam, post or the like, includes a plurality of elongated wooden boards of varying lengths disposed in face-to-face relationship and forming a plurality of layers. At least one of the layers includes a plurality of boards, the inner ends of which abut to form a joint therebetween. A connector device has a base plate with openings therein. Prongs extend outwardly from the plate and initially generally normal thereto. The prongs of adjacent openings extend in opposite directions from the plate. The connector device is disposed between the layers so that the base plate bridges the inner portion of the joint and the oppositely extending prongs penetrate the opposing board faces. When the assembly is compressed together, the prongs deform and clinchingly engage the wood surrounding the joint. The abutting boards are spliced together, and the facing boards are held tightly together.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1985Date of Patent: July 14, 1987Assignee: Jack Walters & Sons, Corp.Inventor: Alan C. Patent number: 4596094Abstract: A panel fastener for attaching a wall panel to a flange of a vertical stud in a movable wall system. The panel fastener is fabricated from sheet metal and includes a flat body portion, pointed teeth for driving into an edge of the wall panel and a portion which engages the rear surface of the flange. The panel fastener is deformable, thus permitting the wall panel to be installed by movement toward the stud along a path perpendicular to the panel. In addition, the panel fastener is fractured during wall panel removal, thus permitting the wall panel to be removed from the stud without damage to the stud or the wall panel.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 1983Date of Patent: June 24, 1986Assignee: GTE Products CorporationInventors: James L. Teller, Albert J. Kramer, Jr.

Patent number: 4584808Abstract: A first wallboard and a second wallboard in edge-to-edge abutment are secured to an underlying stud by a double acting fastener which bends around the stud from a flange to the web where a screw passing through a bight in the fastener holds it in place. Oppositely oriented wire talons 20 and 25 are extensions of a first arm 17 and a second arm 18, respectively. Talon 20 is impaled in the edge of the first wallboard and talon 25 is impaled in the edge of the second wallboard. A loop 23 in the second arm 18 rests behind the first wallboard and both arms rest behind the second wallboard. A force tending to move either wallboard away from the stud is resisted by both arms.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 1984Date of Patent: April 29, 1986Assignee: United States Gypsum CompanyInventor: Alan C. Patent number: 4498272Abstract: An improved panel or wallboard fastener for securing a panel to a framing member. The wallboard fastener comprises a substantially planar base having a single impaling flange secured to it at a midpoint. The impaling flange includes a first leg which extends substantially perpendicularly outwardly from the base and a second leg secured to the first leg and which lies in a plane substantially parallel to but spaced from the base. The second leg of the impaling flange forms a point which is insertable into an edge of the panel, typically a sheet of wallboard.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1982Date of Patent: February 12, 1985Assignee: Rollform, IncorporatedInventor: George C.
