Abstract: The present invention relates to a wall system which has a solid wood construction on both an inner and outer side with an insulation cavity between, and to an improved building construction utilising the wall system. A plurality of boards is arranged in an interior stack of boards and an exterior stack of boards on a base platform. The interior and exterior stacks of boards are spaced apart by vertical members. The vertical members are spaced apart at spaced locations along the wall. The vertical members have a spanning portion; the interior and exterior stacks of boards are spaced apart by the width of the spanning portion. The vertical members extend across the height of a plurality of boards of each stack of boards.

Abstract: Panels for use in building construction (partitions, walls, ceilings, floors or doors) which exhibit improved acoustical sound proofing in multiple specific frequency ranges and also present improved structural integrity, are provided. The improved performance is achieved through the use of one or more layers of glue such that at least one layer of glue includes a viscoelastic material in a first pattern and a structural adhesive in a second, non-overlapping pattern. The viscoelastic material may have a varied shear moduli and functions as a glue and energy dissipating layer. In some embodiments, one or more constraining layers separating one layer of glue may be included. The constraining layer may be formed of a material such as gypsum, cement, metal, cellulose, wood, or petroleum-based products such as vinyl, plastic, or rubber. In some embodiments, standard wallboard, typically gypsum, comprises the external surfaces of the laminated panel.

Abstract: A subframe for retrofitting an existing roof with a new roof is disclosed. In some embodiments, the subframe comprises a base, a first and second longitudinal flanges, a first wall extending between the base and the first longitudinal flange, a second wall spaced apart from the first wall and extending between the base and the second longitudinal flange, and a traversely-oriented punch out passing through the base, the first wall and the second wall. The punch out is configured to receive a rib of the existing roof. Once installed on the existing roof and coupled to the new roof, the subframe and new roof form an enclosed, self-supporting structure with increased structural capacity and stability in comparison to conventional retrofitted roof systems.

Abstract: There is provided a panel for use in the construction of a structure. The panel includes a panel body defining a panel body periphery. The panel body additionally includes a panel body front surface and an opposing panel body back surface. A flange extends along the panel body periphery. The panel further includes an elongate rib having first and second rib walls and a rib channel. The first and second ribs walls extend from and along the panel body back surface. The rib channel is disposed between and along the first and second ribs walls and extends toward the panel body back surface. The rib channel defines a rib longitudinal axis generally parallel to the adjacent panel body back surface. The panel is cuttable along the rib channel to form a structural element. A plurality of structural elements may be combined to form the structure.

Abstract: Fiber insulation batts suitable for building thermal insulating applications are made using polymer fibers. A mixture of staple fibers and binder fibers are used to make the batt. The batt has a bulk density of 5-15 kg/m3, a thermal conductivity of 30-50 mW/m-K and a lambda*density value of from 250-550. The batts can be made by forming a web of the fibers, and calibrating and heat-setting the web. The web can be formed using pneumatic or mechanical carding processes. In some processes, the batt can be made by forming a stack of multiple plies of the web and calibrating and heat-setting the stack.

Abstract: Two building panels are connected through a column. One panel is bolted to the column, for example by way of fasteners passing through holes in a rib of the panel into threaded inserts in the column. A second panel is also bolted to the column, for example to threaded inserts open to another face of the column. Further panels in an upper or lower story of a building may be connected to the same column such that vertically stacked panels are connected together. In another connection, one end rib of a panel is made to receive a second panel. The second panel can be attached to the end rib of the first panel to make a corner.

Abstract: The spacer 1 defines a body (2) having two opposed sides (3) and (4). The body (2) defines a separation distance between the opposed sides (3) and (4) for use as a spacer intermediate at least two concrete containment panels (5) and (6). Various preferred embodiments have separation distances suitable for forming walls having concrete thicknesses of 50 mm, 120 mm or 150 mm, for example. Each of the opposed sides (3) and (4) include fastening means (7) and (8) adapted for fastening of a cladding panel (16) disposed external to the concrete containment panels (5) and (6), as shown for example in FIGS. (32) and (33). To counter bulging of the concrete containment panels (5) due to the weight of the concrete a brace (49) adapted for fastening engagement with the spacers (1) may be used, as shown in FIGS. (50) to (55). The brace 49 includes an abutment member (50) for abutment with the concrete containment panels (5).
